A courageous person deserves recognition. No matter the time, such individuals bring positive energy and passionate spirit. They may not be the most outstanding, but they are certainly worthy of praise.
Mandray suddenly became the protagonist on the battlefield, wielding his large blade and cleaving through the heads of the approaching Zombies. There was no hint of hesitation or fear in his eyes, only fearless determination in his steps.
Advancing and slaying enemies, it felt as if he had returned to that era—the era of blood and fire. For survival, to no longer be manipulated by others, for freedom. Following the memories of decades past, Mandray's face was filled with resolute expression. He could not give up; just as he could not stop resisting back then, he could only move forward, clearing away the obstacles before him. He did not care how many Zombies there were; he only knew that with each one he killed, he could relieve a bit of pressure for those who would come after him.
He was brave, yet also cowardly. Because he feared—he feared that he might never see this land he loved again. Yet at this moment, all love and hate, anger and resentment transformed into the sharpest weapons, piercing towards the hearts of his enemies.
Kill, kill, kill—he could not stop. Mandray felt himself growing more exhausted with each passing moment, but he had to keep moving forward. The surrounding Zombies seemed to multiply endlessly, as if they would never run out. The soldiers who had once surrounded him were dwindling in number until eventually, all he could see were enemies.
"Hehe..." Mandray let out a hoarse chuckle, somewhat lamenting the fickleness of fate. But what did it matter? No matter how thorny the path ahead was, he just needed to carve out a way.
Mechanically repeating one action after another, even machines could grow weary. Yet a belief sustained Mandray; he could not fall and should not fall like this.
Lin Yi considered himself a persistent person, but when he saw Mandray fearlessly hacking at the Zombies, he couldn't help but admire him greatly. Although Lin Yi was dedicated, he was also someone who valued his life; how could he recklessly put himself in danger? But watching an old soldier over fifty years old fight fiercely as if returning to a passionate era inspired him. He was willing to fight alongside such a person because they embodied a courage that should never be discarded.
The Giant Zombies had quickly formed an encirclement. Although nearby artillery roared desperately, their ability to inflict damage on the Giant Zombies remained limited. These creatures were not merely mindless beasts; they possessed their own intelligence and would not simply allow themselves to be slaughtered by gunfire.
A group of dozens was swept into the tide of Zombies, like a solitary canoe navigating through tumultuous seas, ready to be shattered by crashing waves at any moment. Yet they remained undaunted; their guns felt as hot as branding irons in their hands. So they cast aside their firearms and picked up their blades to fight!
To lighten the burden for others, Lin Yi had no choice but to charge to the front lines to intercept the rushing Giant Zombies. Fortunately, Lin Yi was fast enough to reach ahead of Mandray and serve as his final bastion.
At this moment, Lin Yi pushed himself once more to tap into his potential; he needed to be faster and fiercer!
“Zing~”
“Zing~”
“Shh~”
This was the sound of a sharp blade slicing through flesh, and Lin Yi felt a thrill at the sound. The Giant Zombies were much more dangerous than ordinary Zombies, but Lin Yi was reckless, striking back with deadly force. However, it was not enough; over a hundred Giant Zombies could easily surround him. The other Zombies charged directly into the small group of survivors.
“Zzz!” Before he could even scream, a soldier was torn in half by a Giant Zombie.
The other soldiers around witnessed this scene and fought against their fear, desperately hacking at the invading Zombie.
One slash, two slashes, ten slashes… The soldiers lost count of how many times they struck; the Zombie beneath their feet had already turned into a pile of dark, bloody pulp. But this was far from enough. When they finally regained their senses, they realized that only a few of their Brothers remained to fend off the ordinary Zombies.
“Ah!” The last remnants of fear transformed completely into rage. They felt an overwhelming sense of unwillingness. But faced with such an unstoppable enemy, what could they do? They could only fight to the death and avenge their fallen Brothers!
Most of the Mercenary team rushed over as well, joining forces to attack the Zombies. Wu Hao urged them not to split up and to act together. Although they didn’t know where Wu Hao’s confidence came from, since he had a way to survive, they naturally wouldn’t oppose him.
There were too many Zombies; even though everyone had the ability to take on three at once, they couldn’t withstand the relentless assault. Blood dripped from the corners of their mouths as their eyes bulged almost out of their sockets; it seemed they were driven solely by the desire to devour fresh flesh. Yet those still alive were unwilling to be reduced to mere bones by these monsters. They summoned greater resolve to fight against these bloodthirsty demons.
“Mr. Lin! I’m here to help you!” In the chaos, Lin Yi heard someone calling for him.
“Bang!” Lin Yi kicked away a Giant Zombie that was about to surrender, finally having time to see who was calling him.
“Number 19!” Lin Yi was taken aback when he saw Number 19 wielding a sword that seemed far too large for his small frame. In such a dangerous place, this young boy was incredibly brave!
Wait, his body was as solid as rock; he wouldn’t be infected by the Zombies! Lin Yi had been so caught up in the danger that he momentarily forgot about Number 19’s special ability.
“Well done! Keep it up!” Lin Yi gave Number 19 an encouraging gesture before quickly defending against the approaching Zombies again. These creatures weren’t there to cheer him on; they were there for his life.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!"
Suddenly, a series of explosions echoed not far from Lin Yi!
What was happening? Lin Yi was momentarily confused; his throwing distance was definitely not that far, but for the artillery, this distance was alarmingly close.
Following the sound of the explosions, Lin Yi spotted a blurry figure rushing toward him.
"Reagan!" Lin Yi exclaimed again, realizing that the boy had dealt a heavy blow to the zombies with his special ability. He felt a sense of relief, grateful that Reagan was on their side; otherwise, it could have been his group taking the brunt of the attack.
"David! Are you trying to kill me?" Reagan's furious voice rang out from mid-air. Although he felt he had made some mistakes, he did not believe he would lose his right to teach his son a lesson because of it.
Upon hearing Reagan's shout, David didn't even turn his head and continued to fly back. Although Reagan was infuriated, he was helpless as his speed couldn't match David's. So when David reached the Human Camp, Reagan dared not act recklessly anymore.
"David, well done!" This was the first time Lin Yi learned the name of this unassuming friend and couldn't help but exclaim loudly. "Flower Cannon, cover David as he continues to drop bombs behind them!"
Lin Yi felt increasingly pressured, almost reaching his limit. If David could inflict significant damage on the zombies' rear at this moment, it would be a tremendous help to him.
The Giant Zombies were not only powerful but also incredibly resilient. Fortunately, these people now had enough experience to deal with such behemoths. They often had the two best marksmen rapidly fire at the Giant Zombie's head; as long as each managed a three-round burst, they could effectively blow apart these creatures' skulls. Thus, while the situation was dire, the cramped space limited the Giant Zombies' combat effectiveness. These individuals, having thrown caution to the wind, were able to face the current trouble with a calm demeanor.
However, the trouble was immense, and they would eventually be worn down. Mandray led his subordinates in a reckless charge; before long, most of them were dead. Even the last armored soldiers had rushed out, wielding melee weapons in combat. They had no retreat and no reinforcements!
Under Wu Hao's deliberate reminder, the mercenary team found themselves at the back of the line. Yet after just a few minutes passed, they faced all the zombies directly.
"Thud!" Mandray, who had been fighting on the front lines, finally couldn't hold on any longer and knelt on one knee. He was exhausted, his body trembling as he leaned on his knife for support. It seemed he might collapse at any moment, but with enemies still in front of him, how could he allow himself to fall?
"Ha!" The Zombie paid no attention to Mandray's thoughts; it only knew that it wanted to kill these people for a hearty meal.
Lin Yi struggled to move his body. He didn't want to see Mandray fall before him like that. With a swift swing of his blade, he severed the Zombie's claw that was reaching for Mandray. Immediately after, Lin Yi's left hand struck the Zombie's head with another blow.
After repeated exhausting battles, even Lin Yi was starting to feel overwhelmed. Just as he had saved Mandray, darkness clouded his vision, and he nearly collapsed to the ground. But Lin Yi couldn't stop; another Zombie was lunging at him, and he had to keep fighting!
"Watch out!" A shout came from behind Lin Yi, making him think danger was approaching. However, when he turned around, he saw that Mandray had already taken flight—Reagan had somehow gotten close and pulled Mandela into the air.
Lin Yi's strength was rapidly fading. By the time he realized what was happening and tried to save Mandray, it was already too late. The surrounding Giant Zombies seized the opportunity and knocked Lin Yi away while he was momentarily distracted.
"Thud!" Lin Yi couldn't help but spit out blood; it felt as if his heart might stop beating, and his entire chest felt as though it had been pierced.
"Quick, retreat now!" In the haze, Lin Yi heard Wu Hao's loud shout, followed by Number 19 rushing over to drag him back.
In those final seconds, he seemed to hear a massive explosion, Reagan's furious curses, and the sound of Wing moving. But in those moments, Lin Yi's consciousness began to fade; he couldn't be sure if he was hallucinating.
Filled with reluctance, Lin Yi lost consciousness.
