Thinking is a taxing endeavor, especially when it revolves around something completely baffling. Such contemplation only breeds more irritation and unease. Eventually, one might choose to abandon the thought altogether, but in a moment of distraction, the mind is drawn back to it. It makes one wish that there weren't so many troubles in the world; overthinking only leads to more distress. 0

The people in the vehicle had been desperately analyzing the problem, yet the more they pondered, the more they felt it was futile. With no clear direction, it felt akin to trying to communicate with a bull—utterly directionless. 0

"I really want a smoke!" Lin Yi exclaimed, unable to tolerate the oppressive atmosphere any longer. He needed to find a way to lighten the mood. 0

Li Qiweng, sitting beside Lin Yi, glanced at him. Lin Yi chuckled and said, "Just joking! I was wondering if everyone wants to get out for some fresh air?" 0

Everyone was already feeling restless, and for a moment, they had forgotten about stepping out to vent their frustrations. Lin Yi's suggestion received unanimous agreement. Although there was always a chance that a horde of Zombies could spring up from the roadside, they couldn't worry about that now. It was better to risk facing any Zombies outside than suffocating inside the vehicle. 0

The road was desolate, littered with discarded household items. It seemed many had already encountered Zombie attacks and fled their homes. Seeing this only added weight to their already heavy hearts. 0

Witerson II pulled out his cigarettes and casually offered one to Lin Yi. 0

"Smack!" Just as Lin Yi reached for it, Li Qiweng slapped his hand away. 0

"Hey now, Wen! As Captain, I can't just dismiss their goodwill!" Lin Yi felt slightly embarrassed but knew better than to argue with Li Qiweng; he had to find a way to save face. 0

Li Qiweng suddenly smiled and said, "Darling, let's go for a stroll." 0

Lin Yi loved seeing Li Qiweng smile; he immediately disregarded any embarrassment and wrapped his arm around her waist as they walked off together. The others watched them with mixed feelings of admiration and envy. Both Lin Yi and Li Qiweng blushed but paid little mind to it. 0

"When we reach the capital of Ethiopia, we must find a way back to Lion City. This constant drifting is exhausting," Li Qiweng said softly as she leaned against Lin Yi's shoulder. 0

Inhaling the sweet fragrance of the beauty beside him, Lin Yi longed to escape this endless life of fleeing. Yet deep down, he harbored a knot of anxiety; he had been betrayed by someone he trusted who had sent him onto that death ship. How could he return and face those people? How could he avoid being led into another trap? 0

"Returning sounds good, but does Lion City still hold my home?" Lin Yi voiced his concerns. Although Flower Cannon and the others were unaware of who their employer was, arranging for a mercenary group to eliminate him at a port could only be orchestrated by someone powerful. He couldn't help but admire those influential figures for going through such lengths to eliminate him. 0

"Father will take action. I was in a hurry this time and couldn't find out who was trying to kill you." Li Qiweng had started secretly observing the controlled Lin Yi back in Lion City. Although she wanted to take Lin Yi to a safe place immediately, there was an unseen force preventing her. It wasn't until she learned that Lin Yi was to be sent to Africa that she realized the situation was dire. Disguising herself as a female driver, she managed to get close to Lin Yi. 0

"I don't want my future father-in-law to think I'm useless, incapable of even surviving," Lin Yi said, feeling somewhat agitated. He didn't want to trouble his own parents, let alone Li Qiweng's father. 0

"Why? Our families have had ties for generations. What’s so strange about him helping you?" Li Qiweng looked up at Lin Yi with wide eyes, clearly puzzled. 0

"Even though I feel useless right now and often need help from others, this is a chaotic world. I have a chance to achieve something," Lin Yi replied, referring to his mercenary group. Although he had taken shortcuts, he believed he could lead the team well. 0

"I've never thought you were useless; I just want us to live a stable life together," Li Qiweng said, nuzzling her head against Lin Yi's chest, filled with reliance. 0

Even heroes find it hard to resist the charms of beauty; no matter how passionate one might be, they can easily drown in the gentle affection of a lovely woman. Lin Yi was not a hero, so he couldn't remain indifferent. Despite having many questions in his heart, he felt content simply being cared for by so many people. The fact that the research institute had sent Ika to rescue him, the nearly deceased "Dean Lin," showed that at least his employer still valued him. 0

The previously oppressive atmosphere suddenly brightened as rain began to fall, as if trying to wash away all the filth and darkness of the mundane world. 0

"It's raining." Feeling the refreshing droplets, Lin Yi shielded Li Qiweng's head with his hand and led her toward the pickup truck. 0

Lin Yi and Li Qiweng arrived last, and everyone looked at them with amused expressions. 0

"The first rain of 2009 seems to have come a bit earlier than usual," Lin Yi murmured, ignoring the curious gazes around him. 0

"We're still far from the capital, and we could encounter danger at any moment. Although we've gathered quite a bit of fuel in that town, our ammunition is running low," Reagan said. Aside from his son, he truly felt like a lonely man, placing all his hopes on Lin Yi. 0

Lin Yi maintained a calm expression as he extended his hand to catch the rain outside, seemingly oblivious to everything else. He needed to calm down and think about how to resolve their current predicament in this desperate situation. 0

"How far is it to the next city?" After a moment of silence, Lin Yi slowly asked. This country was now just as chaotic as Kenya had been not long ago. Communication was blocked and orders were ineffective; thus, it was difficult to assess the situation accurately. He wondered if they would encounter endless zombies in the next city; if that were the case, surrender might be their only option, even if it meant facing certain death. 0

"We should reach Jin Card City by nightfall. This old pickup truck is just too slow. If only we had a flying car; then we wouldn't have to fear these guys," Reagan lamented. Perhaps among this group, he was the most qualified to judge the benefits of flying vehicles. 0

"If only we had a spacecraft, it would be best to go directly to the space station," Lin Yi thought to himself, considering himself a pragmatist who disliked useless talk at such critical moments. 0

Reagan seemed momentarily taken aback by Lin Yi's words, unable to retort, and simply stared silently at the rain pattering against the car window. 0

At that moment, Aoling Er suddenly squeezed in beside Lin Yi and said, "Captain, I just felt something bad again. I can't control my fear anymore. This feeling is even stronger than what I felt last night at the inn!" 0

Lin Yi was about to adopt his usual kind-hearted demeanor to comfort the girl who was only a year younger than him when he suddenly sensed something was off. But he couldn't pinpoint what it was. 0

"You just felt that something bad is going to happen?" Lin Yi fixed his gaze on Reiko, while his mind raced to figure out a crucial question. 0

Aoling Er felt intimidated by his stare and nodded, "It's similar to what I felt yesterday, but much more terrifying." 0

"Everyone, there are zombies!" Lin Yi's mind had already pieced together the events from last night at the inn; he was unsure whether to feel relieved or terrified. 0

"Where?" 0

At Lin Yi's shout, everyone hurriedly looked outside. However, the mist created by the rain obscured their view, making it impossible to see where the zombies were. 0

"Give me the binoculars!" Lin Yi shouted at Witerson II. He noticed Reiko's expression growing increasingly panicked, as if something truly horrifying awaited them. 0

Through the binoculars, Lin Yi witnessed a scene that sent chills down his spine—an endless horde of zombies, along with many Giant Zombies. They were currently rushing towards them from both sides. Lin Yi had no idea how long it would take for these powerful Giant Zombies to reach them, but given their overwhelming numbers, he didn't have much confidence in their chances of escaping. 0

"I'm going out to take a look!" Reagan snatched the binoculars from Lin Yi and floated up above the car's roof to survey the surroundings. 0

Less than a minute later, Reagan returned drenched and climbed back inside. Whether it was from the cold or something else, his face was extremely pale. 0

"What did you see?" Lin Yi asked with a slight tremor in his voice. 0

"We're about to be surrounded. There's only a small gap ahead, but at our current speed, I don't know if we can make it out," Reagan said calmly, though his fingers were trembling. 0

Lin Yi's mind raced as he tried to come up with a solution. 0

"Lin Yi, Douglas's mental energy can be used to accelerate the vehicle," Wu Hao suggested, sensing Lin Yi's emotional turmoil. 0

"But we have two vehicles... Never mind, everyone from the pickup truck needs to get onto the Big Truck!" Lin Yi decided quickly, calling everyone from the pickup truck over to the Big Truck. At this point, the fuel and food supplies inside were no longer important. 0

Pachy was driving; he was ranked first in driving skills among them. 0

"Not good! A large Abomination is appearing ahead; they're about to pounce!" Pachy shouted from the front, instantly pushing the vehicle to its maximum speed. 0

Lin Yi glanced at Douglas. "Brother, whether we can all make it out alive depends on you!" Pressure creates motivation; Lin Yi needed Douglas to give it his all without any room for luck. 0

Douglas didn’t say much, but he proved through his actions that he was trying hard. The vehicle sped up more and more, and everyone clung tightly to anything they could hold onto just to keep their balance. As the approaching Zombies attempted to leap at them, they were swept aside by the high-speed truck. 0

The howling wind confirmed that the truck was reaching its limit; everyone felt as if it might fall apart at any moment. 0

Suddenly, there was a loud thud as the truck jolted violently; it seemed they had hit another Zombie. 0

Everyone silently cheered for Douglas in their hearts as they saw they were close to breaking through the encirclement. Once they got out, it wouldn’t matter if the vehicle slowed down a bit. The Zombies behind them had already been left far behind, and there was no need for anyone else to deal with them. However, seeing Douglas’s increasingly pale face kept everyone on edge. 0

"I can't see any Zombies ahead; we should have broken through the encirclement!" Pachy's excited voice came from the front, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. 0

Perhaps having heard Pachy's voice, Douglas fainted from exhaustion without even opening his eyes due to overexerting his mental energy. 0

The speed of the vehicle slowed down, and in the distance behind them, some Zombies could still be seen desperately chasing after them. 0

"Pachy, speed up!" Witerson II's greatest fear was those Giant Zombies; he really didn't want to face them again. 0

"Uh-oh, we're running low on gas. I didn't pay attention while driving too fast!" Pachy's news sounded no different from hearing that the Grim Reaper had arrived. 0

The truck was still moving, but it could stop at any moment, while the Zombies continued their relentless pursuit. 0

Creaking, the vehicle came to a sudden halt. 0

"Get ready to fight!" Lin Yi forced himself to control his fear, hoping to muster the last bit of courage. 0

Everyone fell silent, quietly preparing their weapons. 0

Boom! Boom! Suddenly, a series of explosions erupted from the horde of Zombies, instantly tearing them apart. 0

"It's the Government Forces!" Reagan exclaimed excitedly as he leaned against the window. 0

Lin Yi felt a wave of relief wash over him; they had truly encountered a timely rescue. 0
