When he was young, Lin Yi always believed that the world was free, a place where he could do what he loved and refuse anything that made him uncomfortable. As he grew older, he began to see the hypocrisy surrounding him; even if he disliked something, he had to face it with a smile. But who could be certain they were right? Who could completely deny another person? 0

Now, Lin Yi felt uneasy. He believed he was with a truly hypocritical person. He didn't understand why he chose to trust Zhao Pei; after all, it was just a Zombie. Yet after hearing Zhao Pei's words, he started to doubt Reagan. If Reagan wasn't in power, how could he escape his fate alone? The entire Dander City had been destroyed, yet the mayor of this city had survived, which understandably annoyed those who heard the news. 0

Despite the pain he felt along the way, Lin Yi still didn't ask Reagan what was going on. Perhaps this was one of Lin Yi's flaws; he was used to silently enduring his inner turmoil alone. 0

As dusk approached, their vehicle finally reached a populated area, and everyone decided to take a break and replenish their supplies. It was a quaint little town, mostly inhabited by the elderly and children, with hardly any young people in sight. The situation here seemed unusual; perhaps they could gather some information. 0

After getting out of the car, they noticed that the townspeople were watching them with curiosity. They had driven for quite some time to reach this place, far from Dander City, and even Reagan was unfamiliar with the local situation. 0

"Everyone, let's find a place to eat and rest first. We'll continue our journey early tomorrow morning," Reagan explained to the group about their plans moving forward. 0

"Reagan's suggestion is quite good, isn't it?" Lin Yi casually asked his teammates while keeping an eye on Reagan from the corner of his eye. 0

"Haha, Brother Lin Yi is well-informed! You figured out I’m a mayor so quickly," Reagan turned back and patted Lin Yi on the shoulder as if it were no surprise that Lin Yi knew his identity. 0

"That's just common sense. Without Mayor Reagan's grand vision, how could you have burned your own city and come out unscathed?" Lin Yi couldn't help but voice his displeasure; he wasn't one to hold back his words. 0

Reagan's eyebrows twitched slightly, but he remained silent while stopping a few fierce-looking individuals beside him who seemed ready to confront Lin Yi. 0

"Even with great ambition, one must eat! Let's find somewhere to have dinner; I'm starving," Reagan said as he took his son from his wife's arms and headed toward the center of town. 0

Lin Yi cursed under his breath at the old fox and followed along. No matter how terrifying life became, one still needed to fill their stomach. 0

The group of thirty-four marched into the only restaurant in town. The owner appeared to be around sixty years old and was accompanied by two children: a girl who looked about eleven or twelve and a boy who seemed eight years old. 0

"Old man, is there anything to eat?" Reagan took charge of the conversation while the others silently followed behind him. 0

"Honored guest, we only have some Engira left!" The old man slightly bent his waist as a sign of respect towards his guests. 0

Reagan smiled and pulled out a shiny gold piece from his pocket, handing it to the old man. "We came from Dande and are quite tired; we need some beef." Lin Yi could tell that what Reagan gave the old man was a piece of gold. 0

The old man hesitated to refuse, but seeing Reagan's cheerful demeanor, he silently accepted the gold and called his two children to follow him into the kitchen. 0

Reagan acted like a host, inviting everyone to sit down and actively searching for tea in the house. Although Lin Yi found it somewhat hard to accept, he held back. Their situation wasn't very optimistic either; Aoling Er was recovering from her fever thanks to Reagan's timely help, but she was still weak. 0

"Everyone, I believe you all understand how serious our previous experiences were. We were lucky to escape. The president is already aware of the situation, and I think we will have many things to do later on, so we must unite to get through this hurdle," Reagan said seriously once everyone was seated, as if warning them. 0

"Why did the mayor manage to escape?" This question came from Jiao Jiao, who had always been fiery and direct with her inquiries. 0

Reagan seemed to be recalling something as he took a deep sip of tea and slowly replied, "Our Dander City isn't very prosperous, and being near the border means that the city is sealed off at night. When we woke up this morning, we found those monsters outside. Those who had just left the city were instantly devoured by them. We initially sought help from nearby troops, but there was no response, so we had no choice but to inform the president. The president’s distant aid couldn’t help us in time, so he advised us to prepare early. Looking at the sea of monsters outside, who still had the courage to resist? We devised a plan for mutual destruction. If it came down to it, we would burn the city once they entered. 0

In the end, I was supposed to ignite those fuses myself, but my subordinates forcibly pulled me away and desperately saved my family. It’s just a pity for those who didn’t manage to escape." 0

With that, Reagan sighed and looked at several of his subordinates who had risked their lives to save his family, gratitude etched on his face. 0

Lin Yi listened and felt it was somewhat insincere, but looking at Reagan's expression and those around him, they all appeared genuine. He wondered if he was being too suspicious of everyone. However, Wu Hao was beside him, a professional who could provide answers. 0

Wu Hao shook his head but wore an expression full of confusion. It seemed that his abilities told him that what they were hearing was true, yet reality made it hard for him to easily trust it. 0

"Ha ha, I know you don't believe me, but I still want to say it. I can tell you all have a way of dealing with these Zombies; you must be good people. I hope we can work together in the future to take down those bad guys," Reagan suddenly laughed heartily, seemingly unconcerned about Lin Yi and the others' doubts. 0

Lin Yi felt a bit guilty after hearing Reagan's words. Was he overthinking things? 0

Before Lin Yi could dwell on it further, the meal was ready. Everyone had been eating on the go and hadn’t had a proper hot meal in a while. Now that they saw beef and Engira being served, they didn’t want to worry about any schemes; filling their stomachs came first. 0

Seeing Reagan wrap beef in leaves and eat it with Engira, looking quite pleased, Lin Yi and his group followed suit. The dish had a tangy flavor mixed with a hint of blood, which was surprisingly delightful. 0

Having been hungry for so long, they finished the meal in less than ten minutes. The old man accepted Reagan's gold without any hesitation and didn’t mind them staying another night. However, due to a lack of rooms, some had to sleep in the hall. Lin Yi thought about it and decided it was better for his group to sleep in the hall. 0

As night deepened, when Lin Yi was about to rest after spending half the evening with Li Qiweng, he noticed Aoling Er sitting in a corner, still awake after just regaining some strength. Lin Yi tiptoed over and whispered, "What's wrong? Why aren't you resting?" 0

"I don't know why, but as soon as I closed my eyes, I felt a wave of danger coming over me, like something terrible is about to happen," Aoling Er said, biting her lip as she slowly revealed her worries. 0

Lin Yi smiled and patted Aoling Er's shoulder. "After encountering so many dangers recently, it's probably left you feeling uneasy. Just get some good rest; we're all here—what's there to be afraid of?" 0

Perhaps influenced by Lin Yi's reassuring tone, Aoling Er squeezed in with everyone else and fell asleep. Lin Yi yawned and comfortably settled down for the night. Reagan had volunteered one of his subordinates to keep watch since he was considered half a host. Naturally, Lin Yi was glad for the break; he didn’t want his team members to suffer. 0

The night was deep and quiet; everything seemed so peaceful. 0

Suddenly, a scream pierced through the darkness, waking everyone up. Lin Yi jumped up nervously; he had just been having a pleasant dream! 0

"What happened?" everyone asked in unison as they turned on their flashlights and searched for anything suspicious. 0

"Roar~~" The familiar sound sent a chill down everyone's spine. At that moment, the truth was revealed. On the second floor, a member of the Reagan Team was biting into the neck of a white woman, blood spilling from his mouth. The woman, panicked and wearing only her underwear, had rushed out but could not escape the fate of being bitten by the Zombie. She barely had time to scream before her life was extinguished; it all happened in an instant, leaving Lin Yi and his companions stunned. 0

"Mom!" A piercing child's voice echoed in their ears, stirring sympathy among the crowd. 0

"When did you become a monster? Why are you hurting us?" This was Reagan's voice, familiar to everyone, filled with sorrow and anger. He was now holding his son as he emerged from another doorway. 0

The creature did not respond; it merely grinned at him before lunging toward Reagan. The Zombie, having just feasted on human flesh and blood, moved with the speed of a gust of wind. 0

Everything happened too suddenly for anyone to save the woman. Now even Reagan found himself in danger; even Flower Cannon and Bai, known for their sharp shooting skills, had no time to react. 0

Faced with the charging Zombie, Reagan had two choices: jump to the first floor or be bitten to death. 0

He chose to jump, but he did not fall. At that moment, Reagan floated in mid-air like a god overlooking the world. He watched calmly as the enraged Zombie missed its target: "I didn't expect this ability to reveal itself, but it's worth it for my child." 0

Lin Yi had no time for reflection; he immediately ordered his team to start shooting at those who had already turned into Zombies, including Mrs. Reagan, who had just risen and was ready to feast on human flesh. 0

In the vast hall, only Reagan's son remained, his cries growing more desperate as he hoped for his mother's return. 0
