Life is always realistic. We think it will be one way, but often it turns out to be another. Genuine sadness, real pain, true despair. No matter how terrible the emotions become, do not retreat; retreating is failure. Even if countless hardships lie ahead, one must persist until the very end. 0

The people who rushed out to the exit did not escape the siege of the Zombies; they seemed unwilling to let a single living soul go. Although most of the Zombies had surged into the city, many still remained outside. When they saw humans emerging, it was as if they had spotted a delectable feast. The previously lethargic Zombies appeared to have taken some sort of stimulant, clinging desperately to the edges of vehicles, even willing to be flung away in their pursuit. 0

"Should we run or uphold our humanitarian spirit and rescue those who are trapped?" Just as the Zombies charged into the city, Flower Cannon raised his sniper rifle, ready to take action. 0

Lin Yi hesitated. He had to hesitate; although he was confident in escaping from the throngs of Zombies, his teammates would undoubtedly perish as a result. He was not a saint; he lacked a compassionate heart and had to consider reality. Even if he exhausted his Blood Envoy Mercenary Corps, the people of Dander City would likely be dead or turned into Zombies attacking them. 0

However, Lin Yi still considered himself a good person. So after some people managed to escape, he decided to help those remaining. Most of the Zombies were focused on besieging the city, and there weren't many that were fixated on those trying to flee. 0

"Let's save those people; it's within our capability," Lin Yi said as he glanced at the vehicles that had escaped. He knew he could no longer stand by and watch tragedy unfold. 0

The other members of the Mercenary Corps sighed; perhaps they wanted to help but felt utterly powerless. 0

The vehicles that broke through the encirclement were mostly heading toward them, causing a horde of Zombies to follow closely behind. 0

Lin Yi and his group didn't need to exert much effort chasing these Zombies; they were already surging toward them. Strangely enough, these Zombies seemed to have received Zhao Pei's orders and did not attack Lin Yi and his companions. 0

Everyone felt a chill in their hearts—if they did not provoke them, why should they be provoked? Wasn't that somewhat shameful? 0

No, they were not human. If you do not kill them today, tomorrow they will consume more lives and eventually turn you into one of them. 0

Lin Yi waved his hand, and everyone began shooting. They should have been among the first to understand the Zombies' weaknesses, so their efficiency in killing was high. Yet even so, those Zombies still did not attack them. Only two vehicles had escaped: a pickup truck and a Big Truck. The Big Truck led the way, knocking over many Zombies while the pickup followed closely behind. 0

The number of pursuing Zombies was minimal; under Lin Yi's group's relentless slaughter, they were quickly wiped out, with no further Zombies coming after them. 0

Lin Yi wondered what his old friend was thinking—how could he allow such slaughter of his subordinates? Or perhaps there were just too many subordinates for him to care? 0

Seeing that no other Zombies continued their pursuit, both vehicles came to a halt. The occupants looked at these diverse individuals with curiosity. 0

A bald man wearing gold-rimmed glasses and a suit stepped out. Despite his dark skin making it hard to discern his exact age, he clearly held a position of authority. Following him was a woman—a white woman—who got out holding a mixed-race child. Soon after, about ten more individuals emerged from the vehicle, all standing attentively behind the Suit Man with gold-rimmed glasses. 0

The Suit Man appeared somewhat shaken; as he got out of the car, he fumbled in his pocket for a cigarette and took several shaky attempts before finally lighting it. 0

Lin Yi and his group watched him intently until after a full minute passed when the Suit Man slowly spoke: "Thank you for saving us; I believe everyone will remember this kindness forever." 0

"I feel ashamed; there are still many people we couldn't save," Lin Yi thought, a mix of emotions swirling within him. He didn't believe he should feel happy just because they managed to rescue a few. 0

"No, you don't need to blame yourself. Those who survive will avenge them!" The Suit Man looked firmly at the city that had completely succumbed to the Zombie wave. 0

"It might be unrealistic in the short term. We need to evacuate this place quickly. I can't guarantee that lunatic won't let us go easily; everyone needs to hurry!" Lin Yi glanced back at the madness engulfing the city. He knew they couldn't stay any longer; their fate shouldn't be left in someone else's hands. 0

"Alright, let's head out now." As the Suit Man prepared to get into the vehicle, he noticed Aoling Er lying on a stretcher and pointed at her, asking, "What happened to this young lady?" 0

Lin Yi nodded and told the Suit Man, "She has a high fever and needs rest." 0

"Doctor, come over here and check on this lady. See if we have any medicine to treat her," the Suit Man called out. A white man in a suit emerged from behind, carrying a small box. He appeared to be around fifty years old, with thinning hair and a noticeable belly. 0

Lin Yi gestured for Aik to take a look as he was wary of strangers he had just met. Aik approached confidently, examined the man's supplies, and nodded at Lin Yi when he confirmed everything was fine. 0

"Thank you so much, sir," Lin Yi said, realizing he didn't even know the man's name. 0

"You can call me Reagan. May I ask how you would like to be addressed?" The Suit Man bent slightly and extended his well-groomed hand. Lin Yi shook it symbolically; his guard was still quite high. 0

"My name is Lin Yi!" After shaking hands, Lin Yi slowly uttered a few words, feeling that this person before him was acting too insincerely. 0

"I wonder where Mr. Lin Yi plans to go?" Reagan glanced at his watch, seeming somewhat pressed for time. 0

"Wherever is safe!" Lin Yi didn't want to reveal his ignorance about their situation and opted for a vague answer. 0

"Haha, the safest place in this country should be the capital. I'm planning to go there; I wonder if Mr. Lin Yi has similar intentions." 0

"Then it seems we can travel together!" Lin Yi had already taken note of Reagan's vehicle; being able to travel with him and his group to the capital was an excellent opportunity. 0

"Of course, but I assume Mr. Lin Yi wouldn't want to leave so easily either!" Reagan looked thoughtfully at Lin Yi, a subtle smile in his eyes. 0

Lin Yi was unsure what Reagan was up to but feigned curiosity as he asked, "I wonder how Mr. Reagan plans such a grand departure." 0

In chaotic times, one shouldn't expect things to fall into their lap; Lin Yi was prepared for whatever price Reagan might demand. 0

"Revenge!" Reagan softly uttered those two words. 0

"Boom!" 0

"Boom boom!" 0

Immediately after Reagan spoke, a powerful explosion erupted from the entrance not far away. It was as if Pandora's Box had been opened; a series of increasingly loud explosions echoed throughout the city, shaking the hearts of all who heard them. Soon after, flames surged up, engulfing the entire city in a fiery embrace. 0

Although Lin Yi and the others were not very close, they were still unsettled by the sound of the explosions and the waves of heat. It was easy to imagine that the Zombies inside were no longer able to act arrogantly. 0

Was it truly worth sacrificing an entire city, or its people, to take down those Bloodthirsty demons? 0

Perhaps Reagan thought it was worth it. As he watched the fire spread across the city, the suppressed emotions within him suddenly erupted into laughter. 0

The others were startled by his arrogant laughter; how crazy must one be to laugh so unabashedly? 0

After watching the spectacle for about twenty minutes, Lin Yi figured that whatever could move inside had likely been burned to a crisp by now. Only then did Reagan decide it was time to leave. 0

Before departing, Lin Yi glanced back at the city; his old friends were still inside. Suddenly, he blinked—was he seeing things? 0

From within the raging flames emerged three figures, gradually coming into view. The crowd slowly recognized them: one was short and two were tall. 0

Reagan saw them too, and fear gripped him. What kind of vitality could allow someone to survive such a blaze? 0

Lin Yi also recognized them. If he guessed correctly, that charred figure must be Zhao Pei. Fear washed over him as well, but he couldn't just leave. 0

"Is this what they call an indestructible body?" Wu Hao asked curiously as he looked at the Zombies approaching them, their forms blackened yet still moving closer. 0

Lin Yi exchanged glances with Flower Cannon, who nodded in understanding. 0

Raising his gun, he pulled the trigger! The motion flowed seamlessly; Flower Cannon had repeated this action many times before. Each time he did so meant another soul added to his tally. This time would be no different; he trusted his marksmanship—it had never failed him. 0

But reality is often harsh. Everyone likely hadn’t seen clearly or only caught a glimpse of a shadow. As Zhao Pei slowly emerged from the flames, he swiftly twisted his body and dodged that fatal bullet. 0

The Flower Cannon left everyone stunned, their mouths agape as if they could fit an egg inside. Lin Yi was even more shocked, but soon fear crept in. He understood the speed of the attack all too well; even if he were on drugs, he wouldn't be able to react this quickly. 0

When Zhao Pei walked in, his lips moved a few times. 0

Lin Yi glanced at Jerry, who promptly translated, "He considers you a brother, now and in the past. Just now when you ordered to fire, he thought you were just confused and won't hold it against you!" 0

What did that mean? Lin Yi was at a loss; it seemed that this dangerous Zombie owed him a favor. 0

The creature licked its lips and continued to express itself in its own way. Jerry translated again, "Don't try to kill him. If he wanted to, he could wipe out most of us before we even had a chance to react." 0

Lin Yi wasn't intimidated, but he wouldn't risk his teammates' lives either. The abilities displayed by Zhao Pei made it clear that even if they all took the Potential Gene Drug together, they wouldn't stand a chance against him. 0

At that moment, Reagan heard Jerry's translation and looked at Lin Yi, saying, "Although this fire destroyed a city, it also killed most of their living forces. We haven't lost out." 0

Everyone understood Reagan's point; no one wanted to die for no reason—this was the sentiment shared by most. 0

Lin Yi nodded. Zhao Pei didn't say much more; after exchanging a few glances with Jerry, he led his two remaining subordinates away into the distance. 0

The group quickly got into their vehicle, preparing to head to the safest place they could find. As usual, Lin Yi was the last to board. However, Jerry lingered until the end and quietly told Lin Yi, "That Zombie finally told me that Reagan is the mayor of this city, that white woman is his wife, and the mixed-race child is his son." 0
