At this moment, there were only a little over thirty people on the plane. In the vast expanse of the Zombie Sea, the idea of resisting was nothing more than a joke.
As the plane's engines finally shut down, the despair among the passengers grew stronger. Lin Yi glanced at Li Qiweng and raised his hand to check the Potential Gene Drug he held, preparing to take it.
"Wait!" Just as Lin Yi was about to take the drug and unleash his power, Pachy suddenly stopped him.
"It's too dangerous here. We can't take the A1 drug until the last moment; otherwise, if its effects wear off, there will be no hope left," Pachy explained before immediately taking his own Potential Gene Drug. Of course, in the chaos, others likely didn't notice, as the drug resembled chocolate.
After taking the drug, the already imposing Pachy instantly radiated an aura of explosive power. Those standing nearby involuntarily took a few steps back.
Once the plane came to a halt, the Zombies outside began to pound against the fuselage with even more frenzy, as if they were about to break through at any moment. However, Lin Yi and the others still had some confidence in their escape; it was just that their chances seemed slim.
The Military Aircraft was sturdier than a regular passenger plane. Although Giant Zombies possessed immense strength, they couldn't breach the fuselage immediately. At that moment, Pachy acted like a guardian, vigilant for any signs of incoming Zombies, ready to strike at a moment's notice.
Just then, Froeman's voice echoed through the cabin: "Everyone, please don't panic. The Air Force Unit will arrive in five minutes. I hope you can hold on a little longer."
Froeman's voice was like a lifeline in a rushing river; for most who had nearly lost hope, hearing it now revived their spirits somewhat.
"Captain, it seems we still have a chance," Witerson II said after hearing Froeman's words, his previously despondent demeanor brightening slightly.
"Yes, Captain Lin, just remember not to forget about your Brothers' lives while planning your escape," Wu Hao remarked with a knowing smile as he looked at Lin Yi.
Seeing Wu Hao's skeptical expression surprised Lin Yi. Although he had once considered escaping with Li Qiweng by harnessing the Gene Drug's effects, that thought was quickly dismissed; he didn't want to live with guilt for the rest of his life. Even so, Wu Hao seemed to sense his inner turmoil—he truly wasn't an ordinary person.
"That's not true; if we wanted to run, we would have done so earlier," Lin Yi chuckled lightly at those watching him with expressions of concern before turning his gaze out of the window.
The entire airport was left with only their aircraft, while several Armed Helicopters circled in the sky. Even the giant zombies had little chance of attacking those steel beasts now.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" A loud knocking sound suddenly echoed from one side of the plane, each thud resonating deeply.
"What’s going on?"
"What are those monsters up to now?"
Various curses and terrified voices escalated with the knocking sounds outside, disrupting the calm that had just settled. Everyone held their rifles, staring intently at the source of the noise, as if a terrifying beast could attack them at any moment.
"This is bad; it seems these creatures really have intelligence. They know how to use tools," Froeman observed everything clearly from mid-air.
It turned out that those giant monsters had gathered a number of steel rods at the airport and were using them like hammers to strike the aircraft's fuselage. The plane was sturdy, but these Zombies were incredibly strong; with each blow, they left a significant dent in the fuselage. After several hits, considerable damage had been done, and it was only a matter of time before they breached it completely.
Froeman kept glancing at his watch. If help didn’t arrive soon, he might have to risk going down to save them himself. However, he was aboard an Armed Helicopter, which couldn’t accommodate many people. He could only hope that the Air Force Unit would arrive quickly; otherwise, those below would be doomed.
Of course, before the Air Force Unit arrived, Froeman could only command the four remaining helicopters on-site to shoot back and forth from four directions. However, shooting from high altitude lacked precision and lethality, and it only provoked the Giant Zombies to strike even harder at the fuselage.
Lin Yi and the others anxiously watched from inside the Cabin as the fuselage slowly warped and then began to break apart. A gaping hole appeared before their eyes. Under everyone’s tense gaze, that hole gradually widened. Finally, a slimy head pushed through the opening, its hollow eye sockets devoid of eyeballs seemed to be staring at those inside the Cabin.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Three gunshots rang out, and that head exploded instantly, so fast that everyone barely had time to react. Lin Yi glanced at Bai, who had been fixated on the hole; it was he who had just fired the shot. As a professional Mercenary, Bai seemed never to despair before death.
Although that Zombie quickly fell lifelessly, the hole continued to expand, allowing everyone to see what was happening outside. A mass of Zombies surged into view, one after another pushing toward them with their mouths wide open and roaring angrily.
In the visible area surrounding the fuselage, no fewer than ten Giant Zombies took turns striking at it. The gaping hole had grown quite large now; those first-tier Zombies had ceased their attacks as if waiting for this group of Giant Zombies to finish their preparations.
Just as everyone was preparing to fight with their guns raised, a Giant Zombie suddenly leaped into the Cabin. The once spacious Cabin was quickly filled with the massive creature, its impact causing the entire structure to tremble as if it might collapse at any moment.
"Bang bang bang." The group began firing at the Zombie in unison, and soon its body was riddled with bullet holes. However, despite the injuries that would have killed an ordinary person hundreds of times over, the Giant Zombie continued to advance toward the crowd.
"Ah!" Just as they were still shooting, a sudden scream pierced the air. The Zombie swung its massive hand recklessly, grabbing a soldier and tossing him outside the Cabin.
There was no chance for survival; the poor soldier barely had time to scream before being devoured by the Zombies in the Zombie Sea. In that brief moment of shock, the Zombie closed in even further.
Seeing that their gunfire had no effect, panic spread among the group as they began to retreat. But at that moment, aside from the Cabin, where else could they go?
Pachy pushed through the crowd, drawing his blade and charging toward the Giant Zombie. However, due to the limited space, he couldn't fully utilize the speed advantage granted by the Gene Drug. For now, he was able to withstand the Zombie's massive palm with sheer strength, holding his ground for a while. Yet Pachy had another advantage: his knife was sharp enough to inflict wounds on a creature that bullets couldn't harm.
"Slice!" The sound of a blade cutting through flesh echoed in everyone's ears as one of the Zombie's hands was severed.
"Pachy is amazing!" Lin Yi couldn't help but shout in excitement.
The Zombie inside did not retreat, and those outside lacked enough space to enter. With one hand cut off by Pachy, this Zombie's combat ability diminished significantly, making it easier for Pachy to handle. After a few dodges, another finger was sliced off. The Zombie now resembled a toothless tiger—full of strength but unable to use it effectively.
Seizing the opportunity while it was weakened, Pachy took a running leap and aimed for the Zombie's head. Perhaps due to its loss of resistance, his strike nearly severed its head entirely, leaving only a thin layer of skin connecting it to its neck.
However, this merely dealt with one Trouble; outside lay countless more threats.
Just as everyone cheered briefly at their success, an Iron Rod suddenly flew in through an opening and headed straight for Pachy. He shouted loudly and swung his knife to intercept it.
With a loud "bang!" and a screeching sound of metal scraping against metal, the iron rod changed direction but ended up piercing through a Kenyan Soldier instead. The soldier didn't even have time to scream before being impaled by the rod. The wound was enormous; his insides spilled out as Scarlet blood flowed down along the iron rod, filling the air with a scent of death at the airport.
"Bang!" Another Soul-Breaking Stick struck, and this time it was Joe, one of Witerson II's subordinates, who met his end.
Witerson II barely had time to mourn before more objects were hurled into the Cabin, prompting everyone to quickly search for places to hide.
Just as despair settled in, a sudden series of explosions erupted outside. Through the glass windows at the front of the Cabin, Lin Yi spotted several fighter jets approaching.
We are saved, was Lin Yi's only thought at that moment.
The surrounding Zombies seemed to sense the impending danger and began to retreat in unison. The fighter jets carried a significant number of incendiary bombs, and even as the Zombies caught fire, they continued to advance step by step until their last chance at survival was extinguished. The Giant Zombies became the primary targets of the assault; however, their vitality was remarkably resilient, allowing them to survive for quite some time even while ablaze.
The Zombies around the planes were quickly dispersed, and the following transport helicopters dropped down ropes, ready to rescue everyone. At that moment, however, the local soldiers insisted on being the first to board; otherwise, they threatened to open fire.
Though Lin Yi and the others were frustrated, they had no choice but to comply; after all, no one knew what these already panicked soldiers might do.
Two transport helicopters arrived in total, with fewer than ten soldiers occupying one of them. Just as they climbed up the ropes and the helicopter prepared to ascend, a metal rod suddenly flew in from a distance and pierced through it. Everyone watched helplessly as the helicopter spun like a headless fly before crashing down to the ground.
The violent explosion took out numerous Zombies, but those present understood that it was merely a small fraction of them. The fighter jets that were initially preparing to return had no choice but to circle back and unleash their remaining incendiary bombs and air munitions, temporarily halting the Zombies' frenzied attack.
With Froeman's desperate rescue efforts, Lin Yi and the others finally managed to board a helicopter, carving out a path of survival from the Zombie Sea.
