Lightning streaked across the sky, and in that moment as it fell into the water, Lin Yi suddenly remembered that he couldn't swim. Accompanied by the thunder and screams, Lin Yi reluctantly plunged into the sea. As he gulped down seawater and lost consciousness, one thought crossed his mind: the ocean was indeed that salty. 0

"Kate, look over there! It seems like there's someone!" The brightly lit harbor was still bustling with activity—boats coming and going, crowds milling about, all in a lively commotion. But how much longer could this liveliness last? 0

Hearing Reiko's words, Kate, who had been waiting for half an hour, stretched her neck to see. "My sister, there are people everywhere!" But then Kate's tone changed abruptly. "Wait, that person seems to be floating without moving. Could they already be dead?" 0

Reiko shivered at this remark. "My brother, don't scare me! I have a weak heart!" 0

Ignoring Reiko, Kate dashed along the Eastern African Coast until she jumped onto the beach. The harbor was vast; to get closer to the floating figure, she had to reach a spot without a seawall. Seeing Kate run ahead, Reiko felt scared alone and followed after her. 0

The girls moved slowly, but perhaps that was intentional. Reiko watched as Kate quickly approached the floating person. Before Kate could act, the figure sprang upright as if propelled by springs. 0

The wind by the sea was strong. Years later, when Reiko recalled her first encounter with a zombie, she only remembered Kate's terrified scream mingling with the sound of the sea breeze and a hint of excitement in the air. Although visibility was poor, she clearly saw a person whose face was swollen from being submerged in water, their eyes bulging as if they might pop out. Well, for now, let's call them a person; at least that's what Reiko thought at that moment. 0

Reiko couldn't understand why someone who looked so badly injured could move so swiftly. And Kate was equally terrified of that person, running in the opposite direction with all her might. Though the harbor remained brightly lit, Reiko couldn't see the fear on Kate's face. All Kate could do was feel fear; she didn't even have time to pray to God for deliverance from the death that chased her. When that drooling figure with a face ravaged like a landscape stood up, Kate felt her heart pounding uncontrollably. 0

Weakness clung to Kate like an inescapable nightmare; overwhelming fear caused her to collapse onto the sand after just a few steps. Before her stood the zombie, its eyes glinting with hunger as it lunged toward Kate like it had found the most delicious meal in the world. In that moment, life felt so fragile; when death approached, Kate didn't even have time to reflect on her not-so-long life. 0

"Kate~" In the distance, Reiko called out loudly, unsure if her voice reached him. But Kate had no energy left for anything else. The zombie had already pounced on him; the stench filled his nostrils and made him gag. He didn't even have time to feel pain before he completely bid farewell to this world. 0

It all happened in an instant; Reiko still hadn't grasped what had occurred when she saw that figure from the sea tearing into Kate. The zombie occasionally glanced up at Reiko as blood dripped from its already cracked mouth onto the ground below. It seemed to convey to Reiko the deliciousness of flesh and blood—something she deserved to savor. After a brief moment of silence, Reiko unleashed a piercing scream unique to women. 0

"Monster!" 0

"Monster!" 0

The shrill cries echoed far and wide, bringing an unusual sensation to those in the harbor who had grown numb from their busyness. 0

The busy people glanced up at Reiko, sighing inwardly. What a pity that such a vibrant girl had to suffer from mental illness; one could only wonder what her parents were doing. A homeless man on the harbor watched Reiko, who was shouting desperately, with growing malice in his eyes. Of course, he didn’t stop his steps and casually approached her. 0

The homeless man thought that today’s prayers had finally borne fruit; God had gifted him such a captivating treasure. In his eyes, Reiko seemed like someone he could toy with at will. 0

After the initial panic, Reiko gradually steadied her emotions. So when she saw someone walking toward her, she couldn’t help but run toward him. Perhaps it was only in crowded places that one could truly feel safe. 0

Seeing Reiko running toward him like a madwoman, the homeless man felt a thrill of excitement; this girl was making things easy for him. However, before he could indulge in further fantasies, he noticed that the girl suddenly stopped, her face filled with fear as she stared at him, pointing at him with her finger as if trying to express something but unsure how to do so. 0

“Ha ha.” A hoarse laugh crawled out of the homeless man’s mouth. The rough sound from his dry vocal cords made even him feel embarrassed, and he couldn’t help but smile awkwardly. 0

“Hehe.” An even more grating laugh reached the homeless man’s ears, causing him to frown. Was there really such an unpleasant sound in the world? 0

He shook his head and glanced at Reiko, who was flailing her arms about, deciding he needed to comfort this fragile girl properly. 0

“Monster!!” Finally, Reiko managed to shout out loud enough to realize what true fear felt like. 0

Hearing Reiko call him a monster made the homeless man feel somewhat annoyed. Hadn’t he just gone a few weeks without a shower and worn the same clothes for two years? Did that really qualify him as a monster? He resolved to teach this girl who called him a monster a lesson later. 0

“Roar~~~” Before the homeless man could envision any further scenarios, he felt a tightness in his shoulders as if a giant were pressing down on him. He didn’t even have time to turn around before a wave of pain hit him. Perhaps due to years of malnutrition, he fainted without ever seeing what was happening behind him. 0

Reiko watched helplessly as the homeless man was torn apart by zombies, his face becoming unrecognizable. But that was nothing compared to what she soon saw: one after another, grotesque zombies rose from the shore. Most of them seemed sluggish due to malnutrition. Was this scene an indication that the gates of hell had been opened by demons? 0

The beautiful sunset by the sea felt like a distant memory; the hell before her was now an eternal reality. 0

Did she want to end this nightmare? No, no, no! This was just the beginning. 0

"Are you still standing there waiting to become a Zombie?" A cold voice suddenly reached Reiko's ears, causing her to instinctively take a few steps back before she could assess the unexpected visitor before her. 0

In front of Reiko stood a woman in her twenties, clad in tight black clothing that accentuated her curvaceous figure. Her high ponytail gave her an air of confidence. However, her pretty face was completely expressionless, and water continuously dripped from her forehead. Strangely enough, the woman had a slightly plump man tucked under her arm, who appeared to be unconscious. The bizarre scene left Reiko momentarily stunned; she didn't know how to respond to the woman's words. 0

Of course, there was no time for Reiko to answer, as the woman did not give her a chance. In an instant, Reiko felt herself being lifted off the ground and then hurled through the air at great speed. She barely managed to let out an "ah" before the wind rushed into her mouth, silencing her. 0

In the blink of an eye, or so it felt to Reiko, they arrived at a location very close to the city center. 0

"Who are you?" Reiko asked once she steadied herself, posing a question that anyone would ask. 0

"My name is Li Qiweng, and I come from Lion City. The situation is critical; if you don't want to become a living dead, you'd better learn to protect yourself." 0

Reiko understood the urgency of the situation but glanced at the man tucked under Li Qiweng's arm. 0

"He is my fiancé; he just inhaled some water after falling into the sea," Li Qiweng explained succinctly. 0

After hearing Li Qiweng's response, Reiko looked at the man who was drooling and had hair hanging over his face, feeling a mix of emotions she couldn't quite identify. 0

"I need you to keep an eye on our surroundings. He inhaled water, and I need to expel it from his chest," Li Qiweng said without waiting for Reiko's reaction. She pulled out a knife from behind her back and handed it to Reiko. 0

Reiko numbly accepted the knife, which was thick-bladed and gleamed menacingly in the light. The handle was simply wrapped in coarse cloth with no special features, yet it felt heavy in her hand. At that moment, Reiko thought that this knife could probably decapitate someone in one swift motion. Although she later felt somewhat violent for thinking so, she couldn't deny that looking at this knife ignited a desire within her to be a heroic woman. 0

Lin Yi's consciousness remained hazy, teetering on the edge of death. He later felt a series of jolts before experiencing a sudden compression in his chest that expelled all the discomfort he had been feeling. 0

After being dazed for several seconds, Lin Yi slowly regained clarity. Although his vision was still somewhat blurred, he could make out who the Beauty before him was. At that moment, Lin Yi also recalled his predicament and couldn't help but shake his head, feeling as though everything was surreal. 0

"What's wrong? You wake up after your sister saves you, and you're just staring blankly, not wanting to repay me, are you?" 0

As Li Qiweng's fierce voice reached Lin Yi's ears, he instantly became fully alert. Although he had countless questions swirling in his mind, he knew what he needed to ask at that moment. 0

"Have those Zombies been dealt with?" Lin Yi touched the water on his face and rubbed his temples, hoping to clear his head further. 0

"They've already landed. It was sudden; maybe it's already a complete mess out there," Li Qiweng said, her senses sharper than usual. She could faintly hear several screams in the distance. 0

"Hey, this young lady looks familiar," Lin Yi noticed Reiko standing nearby, holding a knife and looking at him with a puzzled expression. 0

Li Qiweng, slightly annoyed, gave Lin Yi a light shove and turned to Reiko. "You need to notify everyone you can right now, preferably the military. Otherwise, I think this place will soon turn into a ghost zone!" 0

Reiko simply nodded, handed the knife back to Li Qiweng, and then ran off. It seemed that she was quite composed in this critical moment and wasn't afraid at all. 0

"And what about me, Wen?" Lin Yi was used to following Li Qiweng's lead and didn't hesitate to do so now. 0

"As a man who wants to be like The Flash, shouldn't you be helping me save this city right now?" Li Qiweng teased lightly. 0

"Alright, I'm more than willing. Let's fight side by side." In that instant, Lin Yi thought of many things: the innocent people who had died tragically and the inexplicable assassination attempts against him. Perhaps the battle had already begun! 0
