The Major paused for a moment, then dismissed Li Qiweng from his mind. He couldn't believe that a woman could stir up any trouble. The most important thing now was to deal with the disaster at hand. With that thought, he raised his hand decisively. The others, seeing their superior's command, understood it was time to open fire collectively for the final extermination.
With synchronized movements and expressionless faces, they stood in their shining golden uniforms, aimed at the living or the dead before them. Perhaps some hearts were stirred at this moment, but when it came to orders, there was only execution. The moment the shiny insignia on their shoulders fell, it would mark the beginning of another scene of hellish slaughter.
A shadow flickered before the Major's eyes. He blinked; could it be an illusion caused by his tension? The shadow passed by so quickly that he barely had time to see what it was before it vanished. However, he soon noticed two soldiers nearby being thrown into the air, fortunately not too high. The once tightly guarded line had developed a gap, and at that moment, the Major finally saw a figure rushing towards their intended targets.
A flash of insight struck the Major as he glanced at Li Qiweng's vehicle—the door was open, and she was no longer inside. A chill ran through him; could that fleeting figure have been the Captain? His arm, which had been poised to give the order, froze in mid-air.
The others quickly reacted but maintained their composure; they were indeed a well-trained elite unit. They waited for further orders from above, perhaps reluctant to slaughter the lives before them so easily. After regaining his senses, the Major waved his hand; his command was clear: anyone who obstructed them must be eliminated without hesitation.
Lin Yi finally found his footing. It all happened in an instant, yet it felt like an eternity. Suddenly, he sensed an emptiness before him, and then a familiar figure wafted towards him with a subtle scent of tulips. Lin Yi's heart warmed; it was Li Qiweng. But with that warmth came worry—how could they escape this encirclement against such powerful weapons and bloodthirsty zombies?
At that moment, Li Qiweng's physical capabilities reached an extraordinary level. As she charged into the crowd, she immediately spotted Lin Yi. In the blink of an eye, she was beside him and pulled him up before he could utter a word: "Run!"
Lin Yi understood there was no time for hesitation; he had no choice but to follow her lead. A roaring sound filled his ears as a sense of suffocating pressure enveloped him. It felt like riding a motorcycle at full speed without a helmet—he barely had time to breathe through his nose. The crowd rushed backward in a blur; the biting wind forced him to shut his eyes, yet even then tears streamed down his face from the pain.
The Major had fully regained his composure and shouted after waving his hand: "Fire at will! Leave none alive!"
The sounds of flesh meeting metal echoed as each shot took away a vibrant life, painting a gruesome scene of carnage.
"Help me!"
"Why are you killing us?"
"I'll fight back!"
"No! My child!"
Various cries of despair pierced through the air like cuckoos lamenting bloodshed. Even as people resisted death with all their might—some pushing forward desperately while others cursed in anger—it changed nothing about their impending doom. All efforts were futile; struggles only expressed dissatisfaction against an overwhelming tide of despair. The soldiers seemed like relentless machines programmed for slaughter, tirelessly firing upon those they were once meant to protect.
The gunfire intensified; even Li Qiweng, who had taken Gene Drugs, found it hard to withstand. Although she quickly maneuvered through the gaps in the crowd, she soon faced direct gunfire again. At this point, Lin Yi was being dragged along by Li Qiweng in a daze; he felt somewhat disoriented. Just then, Li Qiweng shouted: "Hold on tight!" He felt his feet lift off the ground as she leaped into action. The crowd was only about five meters away from the soldiers; with this sudden leap, Li Qiweng effortlessly pulled Lin Yi behind the first line of defense.
Before Lin Yi could even shout in surprise, he landed on something soft. When he regained his senses, he saw Li Qiweng sitting in front of him. She had just thrown him from the front seat to the back with incredible speed and then slipped into the driver's seat with ghostly agility.
With a whoosh, the specialized vehicle accelerated instantly to its maximum speed; Lin Yi barely felt any discomfort as they shot forward like a rocket.
In just a few breaths' time, when Lin Yi fully realized what was happening, they were already speeding down the road. However, there were many vehicles on the road; despite Li Qiweng's extraordinary reflexes now reaching their peak, they narrowly avoided several obstacles along the way.
"Lin..." Lin Yi opened his mouth to say something, but Li Qiweng made a sharp turn, cutting him off.
"They're coming after us. We're in big trouble!" Li Qiweng glanced at the rearview mirror, a hint of worry in her voice.
"With our goddess Wen on our side, why should we be afraid of them?" Lin Yi sensed that Li Qiweng was in a serious state, her aura unmistakably powerful.
Before Lin Yi could continue praising their goddess Wen, Li Qiweng suddenly exclaimed, "Oh no, they've sent a helicopter after us." Hearing this, Lin Yi turned around and cursed under his breath.
No matter how high-performing their vehicles were, they couldn't outrun a military Armed Helicopter. With such a large target in sight, the helicopter could easily lock on and fire, turning them into Swiss cheese.
"Boss, our dignity is being challenged! I'm being chased down the street by a bunch of mercenaries who think they can bully us with their numbers and weapons!" Li Qiweng suddenly spoke into the car's communicator like a machine gun. At the end of her rant, she flashed Lin Yi a sly smile, as if her "scheme" had succeeded. Her delicate face wore a playful expression that momentarily left Lin Yi spellbound.
"What? Really? I'm coming to support you right away!" Pachy's deep voice came through the communicator, laced with barely contained fury.
Li Qiweng's outburst was clearly intended to draw on the power of the Special Operations Department. Even if it seemed somewhat inappropriate, when life and death were at stake, who could afford to care? As the saying goes, if one does not act for oneself, one might as well wait for death!
"My dear~" Li Qiweng suddenly grinned at Lin Yi, her voice sweet yet not overly coy, her flirtatious gaze captivating. Lin Yi knew that nothing good would come from this moment, but he also believed that Wen would never harm him.
"Sure, whatever dangerous task you need me for, just give the order!" Lin Yi replied with an air of righteousness.
Li Qiweng didn't hesitate; she carefully pulled out a black bar from her pocket and handed it to Lin Yi, which emitted a strong fragrance. Without thinking twice, he said, "You're giving me chocolate? I knew you cared about me and understood that I'm really hungry right now." Without feeling embarrassed at all, Lin Yi took it and popped it into his mouth. Li Qiweng was taken aback that he consumed it without question. "So... how does it taste?"
"Not bad at all; it's not too sweet," Lin Yi said as he smacked his lips in satisfaction.
"Of course! It's very expensive," Li Qiweng replied, unsure what else to say.
"What is this? Why do I feel..." Lin Yi suddenly sensed an inexplicable change within himself.
"Potential Gene Drug!" Li Qiweng's voice floated in with an ethereal quality.
Upon hearing this, Lin Yi's heart skipped a beat as he felt an overwhelming surge of power: "I feel like I'm filled with strength!"
At that moment, Li Qiweng furrowed her brow; the Armed Helicopter was now less than two hundred meters away. No matter how agile their vehicle was, it would soon be locked onto by its missiles. Seizing the moment when their car turned and was obscured by a tall hotel building, Li Qiweng almost instantly stopped the vehicle.
"Now's our chance! Let's jump out!" Still under the influence of the drug's effects, Li Qiweng was incredibly agile; she opened the car door and dashed out in an instant.
Lin Yi wouldn't lag behind; he pushed himself to follow suit. The effects of the Potential Gene Drug were indeed terrifying. He felt as if he floated effortlessly through the air and leaped seven or eight meters away, filled with joy and an illusion of being a hero of the age. However, the deafening roar of engines soon reached his ears.
"Mom!" Lin Yi's reaction was swift. As soon as he heard the sound, he saw the Armed Helicopter chasing after them.
"Run along the wall!" Li Qiweng's voice was decisive, and Lin Yi didn't hesitate, following her as they sprinted alongside the buildings on the street. Their speed had reached its peak, but Lin Yi was still getting used to his suddenly superhuman body and struggled to keep up with Li Qiweng's pace.
The sound of cannon fire whizzed past Lin Yi's ears repeatedly. Although his legs were powerful, he felt a deep fear inside. A bullet of that size could easily tear a person in half. Imagining the flesh and organs splattering on the ground made Lin Yi's scalp tingle.
The helicopter resembled a Bloodthirsty beast, relentlessly pursuing the two individuals whose speed had surpassed ordinary imagination. However, no matter how much human potential was unleashed, it could never match the speed of these steel machines. Lin Yi and Li Qiweng continuously dodged using the terrain, narrowly escaping death time and again. The helicopter's gunfire grew increasingly frantic, with beautiful sturdy buildings being riddled with bullet holes, without any concern for who might come looking for Trouble afterward. Fortunately, with skyscrapers all around, and the people inside the helicopter likely having some reservations, they did not fire any powerful Missiles. But their determination to eliminate Lin Yi and Li Qiweng was unwavering.
"What do we do? We can't outrun this giant!" Lin Yi finally got accustomed to his strength and quickly caught up with Li Qiweng, or perhaps she deliberately slowed down to wait for him.
"Our team will be here soon; let them handle it!" Li Qiweng's cheeks were slightly flushed, indicating that the effects of the drug had reached their peak. However, in Lin Yi's eyes, this scene felt different; fortunately, in this life-and-death crisis, he wasn't thinking too much.
Just as Li Qiweng finished speaking, her brow suddenly furrowed. "Not good! We've been locked onto by a Missile!" Before Lin Yi could react, he felt a tight grip on his wrist as he was lifted off the ground by Li Qiweng. They weren't running in a straight line but were constantly maneuvering in curves to evade the Missile lock-on. No matter how long the street was, it would eventually end. Taking advantage of a turn, Li Qiweng and Lin Yi swiftly darted into an alleyway. At that moment, the helicopter had to ascend to avoid colliding with two tall buildings.
The howling wind whipped against Lin Yi's face as if he were being battered by rain; his eyes could barely open at that moment. His mind was blank; he had never imagined such an exhilarating scene would occur. However, his survival instinct compelled him to quicken his pace. The Armed Helicopter soon ascended to a certain height; although they were farther away now, it could still clearly track their positions. As a member of the Special Operations Department, Li Qiweng naturally had means to deal with emergencies. She quickly drew her pistol from behind her waist and fired wildly into the air.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
A series of gunshots rang out, but facing such a massive airborne entity, those shots could only scare timid hamsters at best. Lin Yi felt even more anxious; it seemed that separating would be their best option. However, surprises always struck unexpectedly. Just as Lin Yi prepared to suggest parting ways for a while, he noticed something flying through the air—a car with wings! Yes, he wasn't mistaken; it was indeed a car with wings!
