Pachy turned to Duren, his expression serious as he considered the gravity of the situation. "Let's go check the Morgue and call in anyone who might know something." 0

"The first person to notice something was a Janitor, but she's currently receiving treatment due to shock," Duren hesitated, feeling a bit embarrassed as he explained. 0

"Is there really nothing useful we can work with?" Pachy said, already moving toward the exit. 0

Duren seemed equally troubled, remaining silent as he followed. "My team is conducting a preliminary investigation at the Morgue. We should have some results soon." 0

"What are we supposed to do now? You all seem to be monopolizing the investigation. Are we just here to observe your work?" 0

Duren glanced at Li Qiweng before saying, "Let's find that Janitor first. I hope she's feeling better." 0

The three of them quickly arrived at a hospital room in the inpatient department. It seemed that this Janitor was the only one left in the large ward. The room was painted white, occupied by a nurse and a middle-aged woman with an expressionless face and vacant eyes. The young nurse, who was not particularly attractive, appeared somewhat fearful and kept her distance from the woman, her discomfort evident. 0

"Ma'am, are you feeling any better?" Duren stepped forward, taking the woman's hand with genuine concern. 0

However, the woman merely stared blankly in one direction, saying nothing. 0

Li Qiweng and Pachy exchanged surprised glances, realizing that this Janitor was Duren's mother. Fortunately, both were accustomed to such situations; after a brief moment of shock, they approached the Janitor together. Pachy bent down gently and said, "Auntie..." 0

"Ah! A monster! Help me!" The Janitor suddenly screamed before Pachy could finish, her voice piercing and frantic, causing everyone’s ears to ache. Feeling embarrassed, Pachy stepped back awkwardly. 0

"Nurse, what happened?" Duren shot up with anger etched on his face. 0

"I... I don't know..." The nurse stammered, her eyes filled with fear and pity. 0

Li Qiweng sighed softly. Seeing the Janitor flailing her arms and mumbling incoherently, he stood up and addressed the nurse. "Please give this lady a sedative." 0

The nurse nodded and hurriedly left the room. Duren quickly calmed his anger; he understood that he couldn't blame the nurse, as he had just been overwhelmed by emotion moments before. At that moment, seeing his mother not shouting but kneeling on the floor, he took her hand and began to cry, "Mom, I am an unfilial son, causing you to suffer." A stern police officer, in front of his mother, cried out like a helpless child. 0

Li Qiweng and Pachy, witnessing this scene, took the initiative to step out of the hospital room. 0

Pachy unconsciously lit a cigarette, feeling the pressure weighing heavily on him. 0

"Boss, this is a hospital!" Li Qiweng couldn't help but remind him. 0

"Rules are never meant for everyone," Pachy exhaled a smoke ring, as if trying to blow away his worries along with it. 0

Li Qiweng thought to himself that it was unethical, but casually remarked, "There's something suspicious about this matter." 0

"Yeah, Zhao Pei's death itself is suspicious. After they escaped last night, our team took the Potential Gene Drug in batches to pursue them, yet one still managed to get away." 0

"The whole situation is strange. Zhao Pei is dead, yet someone dared to steal his corpse and even killed an unnecessary victim. It's as if they want to escalate things!" 0

"I'm wondering if it's related to them. You know this research institute is working on a new drug that can change human physiology. If the research succeeds, it would be a historic breakthrough for humanity. Now that Zhao Pei has been killed by them, those with ulterior motives might want to find Zhao Pei's body and study it for clues about this drug." 0

"What I'm worried about now is whether that escaped monkey will pose a threat to society." Li Qiweng's concern was valid; as members of the Special Operations Department, they were all capable individuals far beyond ordinary people. Moreover, they had been taking the Potential Gene Drug in batches last night to maximize their potential in searching for those missing monkeys, yet after a whole night of effort, they still let one slip through their fingers. 0

"Hmph..." 0

"Sir, smoking is not allowed here." A timid voice suddenly interrupted Pachy's words from the side. 0

Pachy did not stop smoking; instead, he seemed to deliberately blow out another smoke ring. 0

"Sir, smoking is not allowed here!" The voice asserted firmly this time, with a much stronger tone. 0

Li Qiweng saw that the nurse had returned, carrying a medical kit. It seemed she was about to give an injection to the janitor in the ward. Looking at the girl who was even younger than herself, Li Qiweng felt a pang of sympathy. "You should go in quickly; once he finishes this one, he won't need another." 0

The nurse appeared a bit stubborn. She glanced at Li Qiweng but still didn't move. At that moment, Pachy lifted his gaze, and the nurse seemed startled, tears nearly spilling from her eyes. Finally, as if making a significant decision, she bit her lower lip and slowly pushed the door open. 0

Duren came out just as the nurse entered. Although his face bore a frown, he quickly forced himself to appear composed. "My team just checked the morgue thoroughly; they couldn't figure out how the thief got in." 0

"Someone like that must be skilled; they probably used gloves and a key to unlock it," Pachy said as he took his last drag of a cigarette and tossed it into the trash can. He gave himself a perfect score for his accurate assessment. 0

"My team found mostly fingerprints from that corpse at the scene," Duren said seriously, though his voice trembled slightly. 0

"Do you really think that corpse opened the door by itself? Hahaha, that's absurd," Pachy said as he stood up and headed outside. "Let's go check the scene directly. Your people should have recorded all the important details; we won't disturb anything, right?" 0

Duren seemed to want a smoke too but rummaged through his pockets without finding anything. Seeing Pachy already heading toward the morgue, he followed inside. "My team discovered that the door was forced open from the inside with a sharp object, yet there are no signs of tampering on the morgue's floor. So..." 0

"So it really is as if the corpse came out by itself!" Li Qiweng had unknowingly caught up with Duren, her tone icy as if discussing something unrelated to her. 0

Although Duren was reluctant to accept this conclusion, he eventually nodded heavily. 0

"How is that possible?" As a staunch materialist, Pachy could not believe such strange occurrences could happen. 0

"Let's go check the morgue; it's in the basement, very close to the monitoring room. Everyone can also review the initial footage we recorded when we arrived." 0

Outside the morgue, everyone fell silent collectively. The iron door was breached with a large hole big enough for a person to walk through, and the metal was bent outward. Instead of evoking an artistic beauty, these twisted metal sheets instilled a sense of hellish terror. 0

"Show these two the footage," Duren said expressionlessly as he waved at an officer. 0

The young officer obediently opened his device, and soon a three-dimensional image appeared before everyone, its lifelike camera effects making them feel as if they were right there in the scene. 0

The most eye-catching sight on the canvas was a corpse, or rather, it would be more accurate to describe it as a skeleton. The body appeared to have been devoured by a beast, with not a single piece of flesh intact. Scattered around were small, blood-red chunks of meat, torn clothing, and various electrical appliances in disarray. The internal organs lay strewn about, and one could even see the large intestine seemingly still writhing, sending chills down one's spine. Fortunately, Li Qiweng had experienced various situations before; an ordinary girl would have already thrown up. However, her stomach still churned uncontrollably. Just moments ago, she had picked up a bloody mass and sniffed it a few times, which appeared to be remnants of flesh from the deceased. 0

"Could it be that the person who stole the corpse brought a pit bull to do this? How could they have gnawed it like this?" Pachy asked two questions in quick succession, clearly shocked. 0

"I've examined the marks on the corpse closely; they don't look like they were made by a dog. The bite marks resemble those of a human," said the officer responsible for playing the video, swallowing hard and hesitating before sharing his thoughts. 0

"This corpse thief is truly twisted; they actually enjoy biting people to death!" Pachy exclaimed. At that moment, a light bulb went off in his head as he suddenly remembered something. He looked at Li Qiweng with a puzzled expression. 0

Li Qiweng felt uneasy under his gaze and, after some thought, found it hard to believe what she was considering. She recalled something the chubby Section Chief from the research institute had said yesterday: "They are already the most bloodthirsty beasts; if we can't capture them, they could cause us significant trouble." 0

Pachy knew that Li Qiweng understood what he was implying. He turned to Duren and said, "We need to leave now; we'll do our utmost on this case." 0

Meanwhile, Lin Yi found himself abandoned by Li Qiweng at the beach, penniless and feeling quite frustrated as he sat under a palm tree, boredly watching the bustling street. At that moment, he could either pray that Li Qiweng would remember him and take him home or resign himself to walking back alone. However, it was clear that Lin Yi had no interest in leaving today; the atmosphere was decent enough, and there were plenty of beautiful women on the beach—surely glancing at them wasn't a crime. 0

Things couldn't remain pleasant forever. Just as Lin Yi was enjoying himself, he suddenly heard faint shouts nearby. With so many people around, it was hard to make out what was being said. Following the sound, he spotted a woman dressed more provocatively than Gini running frantically while mumbling incoherently about someone eating people and calling for help. 0

Lin Yi's mouth gradually fell open as he looked behind her. What was that? A blood-red mouth, bluish claws, hair falling over its forehead obscuring its features, dressed in white clothes stained with blood while letting out terrifying roars. It resembled a ravenous beast that had just spotted its most delectable prey—restless and agitated. One of its legs twisted at an impossible angle but it continued to run desperately. 0

"A monster!" A heart-wrenching scream echoed through the air. 0
