The midnight café was empty, illuminated only by a dim yellow light that shone on a table in the corner. I pushed open the door, cautiously glancing around before slowly making my way to that table. 0

A figure in a hood sat there, facing away from the entrance. As I approached, the person slowly turned around and removed the hood. 0

"Anna!" I exclaimed, hardly believing my eyes. 0

It had been two years since I last saw Anna, and she had changed a lot. Her gaze was sharper, and there were more fine lines on her face, but those bright eyes still sparkled with a familiar light. 0

"It's been a long time, Li Ming," Anna said softly, a bittersweet smile appearing on her lips. "I guess you have a lot of questions." 0

I forced myself to calm down. "You disappeared for two years, Anna. I thought you were dead. Now you suddenly reappear, entangled with the Shadow organization. I don't even know where to begin." 0

Anna nodded. "I know I owe you an explanation. But before that, I need to know which side you're on now." 0

"What do you mean?" 0

"I mean, are you with the government or with the Shadows?" 0

Right now, all I cared about was how Anna had spent these two years and what she had gone through. "It's not a black-and-white choice, Anna. I just want to know the truth." 0

A flicker of complexity crossed Anna's eyes. "Li Ming, the truth is more complicated than anyone imagines. The Shadows and the government are not what you think they are." 0

Then Anna began to recount her experiences over the past two years. Her story seemed plausible, but I noticed some details that didn't quite align with what I knew. 0

"What about the 'Shadows'?" Doubt began to creep into my mind as I cautiously asked, "Are they really fighting for justice as they claim?" 0

Anna shook her head. "It's not that simple. The 'Shadows' do expose some of the government's dark side, but they are not innocent themselves. Some members take advantage of the situation for personal gain and have even planned some dangerous operations." 0

I felt a splitting headache, sensing that something was off about Anna. I thought I was getting closer to the truth, but now everything seemed more convoluted. 0

"So, what do we do now?" I asked, completely at a loss. 0

Anna looked straight into my eyes. "We need your help. We are planning an operation aimed at exposing both the government's abuse of power and the corruption within the 'Shadows.' But we need your technical support." 0

I fell into deep thought, recalling the encrypted hard drive Captain Wang had given me and the request from the 'Shadows' to hack into a government database. 0

"This is going to be dangerous; we might become targets caught in between." 0

Anna nodded. "Exactly. But if we succeed, we can reveal the truth and make those who abuse their power pay the price. Isn't that what we've been striving for all along?" 0

As our conversation deepened, my unease grew. Although Anna looked and sounded just like her, small details began to raise my suspicions. 0

I decided to test her, casually saying, "By the way, do you remember that ice cream shop you loved on our first date?" 0

Anna smiled and replied, "Of course! It was that one next to Central Park, right?" 0

My heart sank. That ice cream shop was clearly by Riverside Park, not Central Park. This Anna was indeed an imposter. 0

I forced myself to suppress the shock and disappointment inside me and continued talking with Fake Anna, trying to extract more information. I carefully steered the conversation, hoping to uncover a flaw in her facade. 0

"Why haven't you contacted me in the past two years? I thought you were gone, and it made me very sad," I asked deliberately, my eyes fixed on every subtle expression of Fake Anna. 0

Fake Anna smoothly spun a carefully woven tale, but Li Ming noticed she avoided certain details that only the real Anna would know. Just as Li Ming was about to take action, the glass of the café suddenly shattered, and a smoke bomb rolled in. 0
