With my newly created covert identity, I delved deeper into the world of the Dark Web. I navigated cautiously through the network of Shadows, all the while searching for any clues that might relate to Anna.
This was a virtual realm filled with danger and temptation. Every day, I faced various complex encryption challenges and engaged in seemingly ordinary conversations that were fraught with hidden meanings. I gradually realized that the network of Shadows resembled a vast labyrinth, where every turn could conceal surprises or traps.
One day, while I was attempting to crack a particularly tricky encrypted file, a private message suddenly popped up:
[White Cat]: Be careful of whom you trust. The truth lies at the center of the maze.
My heart raced. This was Anna's codename! But I hesitated to believe it, suspecting it might be a trap.
[Phantom Hacker]: Who are you? How can you prove your identity?
[White Cat]: Do you remember where we first met? That café, you ordered Blue Mountain coffee while I had a mocha.
My hands trembled slightly. These details were known only to the real Anna.
[Phantom Hacker]: Anna, is it really you? Are you okay?
[White Cat]: I don’t have much time. Li Ming, listen—Shadows are not what you think they are. But neither is the government. The truth is more complicated than anyone imagines. Continue your mission, but be careful. We will meet again soon.
Before I could respond, the other party logged off. This brief exchange left me both exhilarated and confused. Anna was alive—that was good news. But her warning added new layers of mystery to the entire situation.
Just then, the light on my computer screen flickered, and Shadow 0259 appeared once again.
[Shadow 0259]: It seems you have made some progress. Are you ready to take on a real challenge now?
I frowned. As an independent hacker known by the alias [Phantom Hacker], I had always worked alone and was not interested in so-called "challenges." But out of curiosity, I couldn't help but ask.
[Phantom Hacker]: Sure. What’s the task this time?
[Shadow 0259]: It's not a task; it's a choice. We need your help to infiltrate a highly classified government database. This database contains a wealth of evidence regarding the government's abuse of surveillance systems.
Li Ming found himself in a dilemma. If this was true, then exposing this information would undoubtedly be the right thing to do. But what if it was a trap?

[Shadow 0259]: I will provide you with a preview of some data. After you review it, you can judge for yourself.
A few minutes later, an encrypted file arrived. I carefully opened it and began to read. As I delved deeper, my expression grew increasingly serious.
The data appeared very authentic, containing detailed information such as dates, locations, and individuals, along with a substantial amount of videos and images as evidence. If true, this could be the biggest political scandal in recent years.
I closed the file and fell into deep thought. Whatever choice I made could drastically change my life and even alter the landscape of the world.
Just then, my personal phone received another encrypted message from Captain Wang:
"Important discovery. Come to the safe house immediately."
I looked at the message again and glanced at the chat box on my computer screen, still waiting for my reply, feeling torn.
