"Zhang's team has violated the rules again. I hope we won't be dragged into this if something goes wrong," two supervisors in the monitoring room chatted casually while sipping tea.
In front of them, one display was completely black, while another showed the few individuals brought in today, all processed through standard procedures.
"Don't get me wrong, although Zhang's team often breaks the rules, if it weren't for him, our quarterly results wouldn't be this good. Those seasoned veterans are like tough meat; without some tricks, it's impossible to extract anything useful. Today, they just came in, got detained for half a month, and then released with food and lodging provided. Now, which thug dares to act up in front of us?" One of them seemed to defend Zhang.
Perhaps he also somewhat agreed with his colleague's perspective, but people tend to find opposing conclusions just to pass the time.
"I agree with dealing with those fellows, but this one is just a student, right? He looks honest enough. I heard it's a personal grudge from Zhang's classmate," the other began to share gossip.
Upon hearing such gossip, the officers started discussing it among themselves, completely ignoring the dark screen. "Who has the guts to mess with Yang?" Just then, the orderly atmosphere of the police station was disrupted as the door was kicked open by a group of rough-looking individuals who stormed in.
However, they were well aware of what they could and couldn't do. Although they were cursing loudly, no one made a move; they simply stood around watching.
The loudest among them was the leader known as Eighth Master. He specialized in mediation and had a thorough understanding of the police system. His grasp of the situation was just right; many precinct heads would give him face, knowing that without his cooperation on certain cases, their progress would be severely hindered.
"Eighth Master, this isn't appropriate. What's going on? Are you trying to confront law enforcement?" As the commotion continued below, a middle-aged police officer descended from the second floor holding his hat and reprimanded them.
Though his tone was scolding, it was clear from his demeanor that he held some apprehension towards the individuals before him. He was merely a station chief; his authority stemmed from the environment here.
Police officers are human too. They have family and walk home at night. On the surface, thugs might fear them, but in secret, things could be different.
"Confronting law enforcement? Oh come on, Li Su, that's quite an accusation! People have been taken in by you guys. Can’t we come to check on our relatives and neighbors? So you’re saying it’s justified for you to arrest people randomly?" Eighth Master showed no respect towards the officer before him. The only reason he spoke so 'politely' was that they were on the officer's turf; outside these walls, he wouldn't be so courteous.
Hearing this made the middle-aged officer furrow his brow even more. He called someone over to inquire further and after listening to his subordinate's report, his frown deepened.
"We won't wrong an innocent person, but we also won't let a guilty one go free. Whether or not we're arresting people randomly will be determined later. However, you all can't disrupt our work order just because you're relatives." For some reason, upon hearing his subordinate's report, the station chief suddenly became much more assertive.
This surprised Eighth Master somewhat.
"Old Eight, I know who you are, but it's better if you stay out of certain matters," Li Su sighed as he noticed the surprised expression on the face of the troublesome fellow across from him. There were indeed some things he preferred not to get involved in.
However, he couldn't ignore the situation at hand. The young man present had connections to the Municipal Bureau, and as a directly governed city, the power of the Municipal Bureau was greater than that of many provincial departments.
Compared to such a formidable figure, as a director, he couldn't afford to offend someone of official standing. At the same time, he believed that since this person made a living in this line of work, it was unlikely they would create too much friction with the police system.
Receiving this kind of response put pressure on Eighth Master. Initially, he had only learned about a general issue from his subordinates without contacting the elder to clarify the situation. Rushing over to take credit now seemed rather reckless, and he found himself in a difficult position.
He could choose to ignore this director, but there were some debts that needed to be paid. In the Chinese Empire, such black forces could never truly contend with officials; at most, they could only attempt to corrupt or co-opt them. The once-mighty Yongxing was a prime example.
Just as he felt overwhelmed and Director Li began to relax slightly, several men in black suits surrounded a White Man wearing a monocle and escorted him forward.
As they approached, the sharp-eyed White Man walked directly toward Director Li and spoke in fluent Chinese.
"Hello, I am the Exclusive Lawyer for Hivemind Security Company."
Hearing the words from this seemingly aristocratic White Man put immense pressure on the middle-aged director in police uniform. If it were just those thugs, he could dismiss them without consequence; however, dealing with a lawyer—especially one from a foreign enterprise—was not something to take lightly.
Li had heard about Hive Security Company recently. He didn't know what methods they employed, but they had managed to obtain numerous permits that even local companies found difficult to secure within the strictly regulated Chinese Empire. They even had a few Gun Permits.
The company had connections with some local leaders, making it even harder for him to withstand their influence.
"This matter involves significant case details and cannot be bailed out!" After wrestling with his thoughts for a while, Li Su finally gritted his teeth and stood firm on the issue.
Now he was all in; he hoped that the young man who had recently entered the field but already achieved remarkable results would be able to pry open some information. Otherwise, he would find himself in a passive position—truly caught between a rock and a hard place.
"In that case, please remember what you just said," replied the aristocratic White Man without showing any signs of anger. He was merely following company protocol after receiving a call from one of their members.
Since the other party was adamant, it was best to follow the procedure. If there were any other issues or hidden agendas, he was confident he could strip away the facade of the person in front of him.
"I will take responsibility for my words." Having made his decision, Director Li could only stand firm.
However, just as he finished speaking, someone else walked into the hall. "What responsibility?"
"Director?" Seeing One after another enter through the door, the middle-aged director felt a bit relieved, but then he froze. Had he reported the situation here? Or had that appointed elder called for reinforcements? Did he know there would be a problem?
Well, reinforcements were fine, but why were both the district director and several leaders from the Municipal Bureau here? Were they prepared to confront Hive Security Company?

"Zou Mi," the secretary of Mayor Liang from Sh City. Although nominally just a secretary, his political prospects were much higher than those of an ordinary provincial governor. In fact, many Prime Ministers had previously served as mayors of several directly governed cities. Such a significant figure should have no connection with him.
Now this secretary appeared here, and based on his understanding of Zhang Zhongzhao, it was impossible for him to have summoned such a person. Could this be someone sent by Hive Security Company?
