"Take care, Uncle." Yang Xiaoyou stood at the door, waving his hand shyly with a smile.
"There's no need to see me off. Hehe, it's really tough for you to be home alone. If you remember anything else related, you can contact me through this number." The somewhat disheveled plainclothes officer smiled as he handed over a white card, which bore nothing but a phone number.
The two police officers beside him also smiled; it was rare to see such polite middle school students these days, and he was quite likable in appearance.
"Okay, I will. I won't see you off then."
"Go ahead."
Once the door closed, Yang Xiaoyou's previously smiling demeanor instantly faded. "Tch, what a hassle."
He then turned the white 'business card' in his hand, revealing a playful smile. There might come a time when he would actually need that number; better to be prepared.
Due to the unique national circumstances of the Chinese Empire, the influence of the organization behind Sunshine Corporation on the central government was extremely weak, limited to that of civil groups at most. After wandering around the globe, he had returned to his homeland to hide.
He had underestimated their obsession with him; even after escaping to this land with minimal influence, he ultimately ended up dragging his family into trouble.
Perhaps he should have decisively offered cooperation in exchange for government protection for his family from the beginning. Unfortunately, by the time they came after him, it was already too late.
"School? It's only been two months, yet it feels so strange and nostalgic." After casually tidying up some stationery in his room and tossing a few corn kernels to his pet nestled in its bed, Yang Xiaoyou lay flat on his bed. With his parents abroad on an adventure, being home alone felt a bit lonely, but at the same time, the concept of home brought him some warmth.
After daydreaming for a while, Yang Xiaoyou fell directly into a deep sleep, a hint of a smile appearing on his face. Ever since obtaining the Memory Fragments, he had hardly slept well; now lying in his own bed brought an extreme sense of relaxation.
The sunlight in early September was still quite diligent, already dimly brightening by five o'clock.
People began to appear in People's Park for their morning exercises. The beautiful greenery made the air feel even fresher.
In a secluded thicket of the park, a series of short, sharp sounds echoed through the air.
“Ha!” “Hoo!”
A lithe figure clad in black athletic wear moved swiftly within this area, maintaining a steady center of gravity without any noticeable fluctuations. The speed of their strikes and footwork produced a whistling sound as they sliced through the air.
If anyone had been nearby to observe, they would have recognized that someone was practicing an unknown martial art. In the martial arts-rich environment of the Chinese Empire, this was not an unusual sight. However, a seasoned fighter with a certain level of expertise would have been surprised to discover that this was a rather peculiar method of training.
Many aspects of the practice exceeded conventional standards; martial arts aimed at strengthening the body do not typically seek to push each attack to its physical limits. While short-term results might be impressive, prolonged practice in such a manner would inevitably lead to hidden injuries in corresponding areas.
The individual currently training, however, was pushing the limits excessively. Their style exuded a fierce and strange energy, combining both softness and strength. Even the seemingly frail physique revealed a primal, bloody wildness through these movements.
Finally, as the sun fully emerged from behind the horizon, the figure abruptly halted their exercise. They raised their hands sharply to their forehead and then slowly lowered them to their abdomen. With a gentle stomp of their left foot against the ground, they exhaled a puff of white breath.
In the still warm air of September, producing breath like winter's fog was nothing short of astonishing.
Yang Xiaoyou, after concluding his routine, seemed like a steamer releasing heat; his black athletic outfit was completely soaked in sweat. Yet despite such intense exertion, his spirits were remarkably high.
“This place is truly great; it’s just a pity it’s still just a park.” After wiping the sweat from his face with a towel he had set aside, Yang Xiaoyou felt somewhat nostalgic. He then began jogging toward home; it was about time to head back. A quick shower would prepare him for school.
Well, rather than jogging home, he might as well grab something to eat along the way.
“Boss, three orders of soy milk and fried dough sticks to go!”
“Uncle, five meat buns please!”
“Auntie, one bowl of noodles—large size with an egg!”
After finally getting home and taking a shower, he didn’t forget to grab a few pieces of bread he had bought earlier. He even took a piece with him as he left. There was no other choice; eating at a restaurant seemed a bit excessive, but after the morning workout, he needed to replenish his energy.
At school during lunch, he had to control himself a bit to avoid alarming anyone.
“Ah! Yumeiren, you’re back! Where have you been all summer? We missed you so much! I was so envious of you for going on that School Trip. Thank goodness you’re okay.” Just as Yang Xiaoyou stepped through the gates of Yuying Middle School and prepared to follow the winding path ahead, a somewhat lewd voice called out from behind.
“Get lost, you fellow destined to be alone for life.” Hearing such a title made Yang Xiaoyou shoot a glare at the fellow.
In Yuying Middle School, there weren’t many who liked anime and its related culture. Yang Xiaoyou was one of them, which led to the formation of a circle of ‘otaku friends’ among some classmates.
Their relationships weren’t particularly close; they were more like troublesome friends.
Perhaps due to their shared interests, the fellows in this circle were almost desperate for companionship. Yang Xiaoyou was merely considered more attractive than them, which led a few of the more mischievous fellows to bestow upon him that disgusting nickname.
Fortunately, many knew he disliked it, so not many used it. Unfortunately, those who were slightly closer to him and more carefree often used it just to provoke him.
“Ah, this curse is too vicious,” Huang Wei said as he patted Yang Xiaoyou on the shoulder, appearing somewhat aggrieved but not provoking him further.
“We're in our second year now. According to the rules, class adjustments are inevitable. However, every student must join a club, and since our school doesn’t have an anime club, why don’t we start one ourselves?” Huang Wei changed the subject.
“Who’s going to start it? You?” Yang Xiaoyou replied dismissively. In their somewhat reclusive group, there wasn’t anyone capable enough to take charge. It was uncertain whether they could even get approval from the student council for it to be recognized as an official club.
If they didn’t get recognized, they would still have to join another qualified club.
“Why not me?” Huang Wei’s expression turned somewhat sulky at that moment. Just then, the school’s gate, which usually didn’t allow vehicles through, slowly opened up, and a Stretch Lincoln slowly drove in.
The founder of Yuying Middle School was present, and out of respect, even central leaders would abide by the school rules and get out of their cars at the entrance.
Only those permitted by the school could drive onto the campus.
"Ah, it's her! Is she coming to class again? H, my goddess!" Huang Wei exclaimed with a dramatic expression after staring at the car for a while.
However, Yang Xiaoyou merely dismissed his words as nonsense. Just last semester, he had heard Huang Wei proclaim that his goddess was Liang Wuxuan, and now it had changed so quickly.
"Liang Wuxuan? Even if her grandfather is a Board Member, she can't break school rules," Yang Xiaoyou teased.
"Who is Liang Wuxuan? She's too far from us to even consider. This one, however, is someone we can actually see up close," Huang Wei said with a slightly lewd expression.
"See up close? Oh, I see. Isn't this fellow on leave due to health issues? No wonder she's allowed to drive in; it's a health matter." Upon hearing this, Yang Xiaoyou recalled a stunningly pure girl from his freshman year who had an innocent face and a devilishly attractive figure, seemingly soft in personality.
If she hadn't attended class so infrequently, her popularity would likely rival that of Liang Wuxuan.
It was said that she had only attended a few classes all year due to health problems, and her family apparently held a duke's title. The reason she didn't attend the Royal Academy of Basic Studies was that Yuying's school hospital was superior.
"Students, starting today, Liu Lianyue will be joining us in class. Due to her health issues, I hope everyone can take care of her. Now, Liu Lianyue's seat..." The young teacher with glasses stood at the podium addressing the students below.
If he hadn't been there, many boys in the class would have howled with excitement. Behind him stood a beautiful girl with an ethereal appearance whose school uniform clung tightly to her figure. Her long black hair cascaded naturally over her shoulders.
At that moment, Yang Xiaoyou sat at his desk, feeling as though he had seen this girl somewhere before.
"Ugh, I really am forgetful. She did attend a few classes last semester; of course I've seen her." After failing to recall where he had seen her, he shook his head in self-deprecation.
Meanwhile, Liu Lianyue's seating arrangement was finalized according to her wishes; she simply wanted to avoid causing trouble for other classmates by sitting in her original spot.
Yang Xiaoyou initially thought nothing of it, but when he noticed that all his classmates were staring at him, he remembered that after several seating rearrangements, Liu Lianyue's former seat was now right behind him.
The last seat in the group by the window.
"Hello, I hope we can get along well from now on." The pure and stunning girl greeted Yang Xiaoyou lightly as she passed by him. Her voice was soft and melodious, quite pleasant to hear.
"Uh, hi." Since Yang Xiaoyou was sitting down, when he turned his head, he found himself face-to-face with her ample bosom, a sight that made him swallow hard.
Especially with her innocent and clueless expression, Yang Xiaoyou felt a slight pang of guilt.
"By the way, I just arrived at school and haven't received my textbooks yet. Can I share yours for now?" She seemed to remember something and a hint of distress crossed her face as she slightly bent forward, resting her hands on her knees and speaking in a pleading tone.
However, her posture, which appeared to be due to fatigue, left Yang Xiaoyou unsure of where to look. He could only stiffly nod his head; women were indeed quite intimidating.
No matter how many storms he had weathered in his memory, he still had his own introverted nature. He was reliable in critical moments, but when faced with this kind of situation, he felt a bit embarrassed.
While Yang Xiaoyou was lost in thought, he failed to notice the sparks flying in the eyes of all the boys in the class.
