Wang Chao held Liu Xiaoxiao tightly, talking to himself as he cried. In the end, he could no longer tell if he was speaking to Liu Xiaoxiao or having a conversation with himself. When Wang Chao was very young, his parents abandoned him, and he was taken in by a kind old man. By the time he went to college, the grandfather who had adopted him had passed away, leaving Wang Chao with enough money to finish his education. 0

From that moment on, Wang Chao had no family left, and Liu Xiaoxiao might just be his last remaining connection. 0

Finally, he stood up. The winter sunlight streamed in, warming him with an indescribable comfort. Wang Chao calmly pulled out the bottled water and bread he had tucked away in his clothes. He savored each bite as if it were a grand feast. As he ate, he listened to Liu Xiaoxiao's cries, treating them like a royal concert. 0

Then he went to the bathroom to find a clean towel, dampened it, and began to wipe Liu Xiaoxiao's face. While controlling her, he gently cleaned her face for over half an hour before finally removing all the bloodstains. Looking at Liu Xiaoxiao, who had already turned into a Zombie, he said, "You are the first woman I ever loved. I want to die with you, but I'm selfish—I don't want to die yet." 0

Wang Chao's words were contradictory but reflected his true feelings. 0

"I’m not afraid of danger. I’ve gone through so much to find you and save you. I've already done a lot!" Wang Chao sighed and spoke in a low voice. "Please don’t hate me or blame me. And don’t appear in my dreams anymore." With that, Wang Chao picked up the brand new kitchen knife and swung it down decisively. He turned around, and behind him there was no more sound of screaming; he knew it was all over. 0

He didn’t look back but walked to the entrance and listened carefully to the sounds outside. 0

There was no noise outside. He opened the door and tiptoed out. In truth, these slow-moving Zombies could be dealt with by any adult; even if five or six Zombies surrounded Wang Chao, he could carve out a bloody path. The terrifying aspect of these Zombies lay in their sheer numbers; they appeared in waves like pack animals, each wave consisting of at least hundreds. 0

With so many people around, there were naturally many Zombies. 0

As Wang Chao reached the first floor and was about to push open the building door, he heard a series of roars from outside. He realized there were quite a few Zombies out there; if he opened the door recklessly, he would run straight into a horde—like running through the streets with a basket of dung—he would be dead for sure. Thinking this way, Wang Chao withdrew his hand. He initially considered jumping from the first floor but found that it was protected by nets. Reluctantly, he made his way up to the second floor. 0

The second floor was only about four meters high—not too high or too low. Looking down made him feel an intense confidence that told him he would definitely not get hurt jumping down—like an ordinary person jumping from one meter high without injury. Seeing only a few dismembered Zombies below gave him hope. 0

Without any hesitation, Wang Chao jumped from the second floor. His landing was light and barely stirred up any dust. Surprised at how easy it felt despite knowing he wouldn’t get hurt, Wang Chao remained unaware that his body had undergone subtle changes beyond his perception. He dispatched one Zombie after another with swift strikes of his knife and faced a two-meter-high wall with a powerful leap upward. 0

Wang Chao ran all the way back to his neighborhood, riding his bicycle once again. 0

To make a long story short, he returned safely without any major incidents. He skillfully avoided waves of Zombies and dealt with a few that wandered into the hallway. Finally, he reached the seventh floor and rang the doorbell, saying, "Yang Mengying, open the door, I'm back!" The door opened, but to Wang Chao's surprise, it was not Yang Mengying who answered; instead, it was a man he didn't recognize. Following the man inside, Wang Chao discovered that there were quite a few people in the apartment. 0

Upon closer inspection, Wang Chao realized there were more than ten people in the house—men and women, old and young. As soon as they saw Wang Chao enter, everyone turned to look at him. Yang Mengying and Yiyi were sitting on the floor and immediately noticed Wang Chao's return. Yang Mengying quickly stood up and exclaimed, "Wang Chao, you're back!" Yiyi rushed over, and Wang Chao lifted her up and held her in his arms. 0

Wang Chao asked, "Who are all these people..." 0

At that moment, everyone recognized that the person Yang Mengying had been talking about was indeed Wang Chao. 0

Before Yang Mengying could respond, the man behind her spoke up. Looking at Wang Chao, he said, "Oh, so you are Wang Chao. Yang Mengying has been talking about you. She said you brought back all this food—truly a young hero! I’m Liu He. These people are those I've gathered together. When the Zombies broke out, I did what I could to save as many as possible." 0

As Liu He spoke, he glanced around at the group. 0

Hearing Liu He’s words, those sitting on the floor began to murmur among themselves. An elderly woman said tearfully, "This young man Liu He is really something. If it weren't for him, my old bones would have been done for." A girl around seventeen or eighteen chimed in, "Yes! If it weren't for Uncle Liu He, I wouldn't know what to do!" 0

Seeing that everyone had a good impression of Liu He, Wang Chao nodded in agreement. 0

Wang Chao had always believed that unity was strength in such an apocalyptic world. No matter how strong one person might be—able to take on dozens of Zombies alone—if they got overwhelmed or trapped by an endless stream of them, it would ultimately lead to death. Counting carefully, he noted that among the ten or so people present, only five were men—likely high school students since it was the weekend—and along with himself and Liu He, there were seven in total. 0

Including Yang Mengying, there were four women present among them as well. 0

Aside from that, only the elderly and children remained, led by the old woman who had spoken. There were a total of five people. 0

These were all the individuals currently in the house. 0

Wang Chao said, "When I came in earlier, although I didn't look closely, I still noticed quite a few living people. While the sun hasn't set yet, we should gather these people together as much as possible!" 0
