Watching the irritable Zhan Yixiao finally calm down, Su Ruolan and Qin Zhi Han both let out a sigh of relief. Wei, exhausted, lay beside Zhan Yixiao, gripping his hand tightly and refusing to let go.
After covering them with a blanket, Su Ruolan and Qin Zhi Han reluctantly stepped out of Zhan Yixiao's room, despite their lingering worries. A few Zombie Captains stood at the door, anxiously watching Su Ruolan with hopeful eyes, gesturing with their hands as they struggled to ask, "Is everything okay?"
"Everything is fine," Su Ruolan reassured them, sensing their anxiety.
After spending time with these Zombies and continuously purifying them with water from her space, Su Ruolan noticed that they had gradually regained human-like thinking. Under normal circumstances, they could now control their cravings for fresh blood and their desire to devour fresh flesh. It was as if the energy they had lost within themselves had been replenished, preventing them from easily falling into a state of energy starvation and frenzy.
The Zombies following Zhan Yixiao had become more rational and self-controlled. If it weren't for their characteristic Zombie features—lack of body temperature, heartbeat, and breath—they would hardly differ from humans.
This time, Zhan Yixiao's power was the strongest, significantly influenced by the energy of Seven Stars Aligned, leading to the greatest emotional fluctuations. At first, no one realized this; unexpectedly, in a moment of pain that pierced his bones, he had bitten Wei. Fortunately, due to her unique constitution, when her blood flowed into Zhan Yixiao's mouth after breaking the skin, it awakened his consciousness at that moment. Upon realizing that he had lost control and harmed the most important person to him—albeit unintentionally—Zhan Yixiao felt an overwhelming sense of guilt. He could not accept this reality.
It turned out that no matter how he felt inside, he was no longer human. How could a hunter coexist peacefully with its prey?
Awakening with guilt, Zhan Yixiao finally decided to distance himself from Wei. He desperately put on a stern face for the girl and had a serious conversation with Su Ruolan. He wanted her to take Wei away and not let her get involved in the world of Zombies anymore. Although they had regained a bit of rationality, he feared that some external factor could trigger them back into high-level mindless creatures. He had overestimated his own willpower; he was scared and did not dare to try again.
"I understand what you mean. I appreciate your care for her. But you and I cannot make decisions for her. We should respect Wei's wishes. I don’t want her to resent my selfishness and decisions in the future. Perhaps you should have a good talk with her. I will wait for you to make a real decision; if you agree with her, I will take her away," Su Ruolan said calmly while looking at the seemingly composed Zhan Yixiao.
"Okay, I understand your point," Zhan Yixiao replied as he looked into Su Ruolan's clear eyes, suddenly feeling that all his thoughts were laid bare before her, which made him feel guilty.
"Wei, you and your mother should go," Zhan Yixiao said firmly, trying to sound fierce.
"Where will we go? Are you coming with us?" Wei asked earnestly.
"No, I won't be with you. You'll meet someone better for you in the future," Zhan Yixiao said roughly.
"No, you are the best for me. I want to be with you," Wei shook her head.
"Listen, if you stay with me, I will hurt you. We can't be together." As he spoke, Zhan Yixiao's nails had already pierced his palm.
"Why can't we be together? Weren't we fine before? Are you worried about the time I got bitten? It's okay, it didn't hurt, I'm fine now. You don't need to feel guilty," Wei comforted Zhan Yixiao gently.
"You don't understand, just go. I don't like you anymore, just leave me alone." Seeing that he couldn't convince Wei no matter what, and fearing he might lose control, Zhan Yixiao shouted, "Look at yourself, then look at me! I'm a monster, a monster that eats people! Get out of here, or I'll devour you and your entire family. Leave, and don't let me see you again."
Wei was frightened and looked at Zhan Yixiao helplessly, tears welling up in her eyes. She burst into tears and turned to run away.
