It hurt, it really hurt. It felt as if he were a large cake, bitten into by the Zombies, torn apart and scattered, yet he was not injured at all; his body was intact.
All the Zombies' bites were merely attacks on the soul. Watching himself being gnawed at by countless Zombies, seeing his soul devoured over and over again, only to be reformed and devoured clean once more, was a torment that would drive anyone with a weak will into a hellish experience of endless suffering.
Qi Runzhou was relatively steadfast. Upon discovering the flaw, he immediately focused his mind, striving to unify his spirit. However, Kang Wanying was horrified by the blood flowing from beneath her, overwhelmed with panic and fear as she cried out, "Runzhou, help me! Save our child!"
Seeing the blood pouring from Kang Wanying, Qi Runzhou steeled himself and enhanced his Ability. He struck the high wall again and again until it finally broke. He immediately scooped up Kang Wanying and rushed out.
As they left that strange room, all the Zombies vanished almost instantly. Qi Runzhou's mind cleared somewhat, but Kang Wanying seemed to have been injured in her head; her thoughts were muddled as she muttered softly, "Go away, go away, you disgusting Zombies."
Qi Runzhou finally noticed something was wrong with Kang Wanying. Just as he intended to pass some Ability to her, she dodged away. "Get away from me, you Zombie! You won't hurt us. I'll kill you!" An Ability shot towards Qi Runzhou.
Caught off guard, he hastily dodged. Although he had reduced its power by seventy percent, he was still hit in the chest.
Seeing that terrifying Zombie pushed back, Kang Wanying immediately ran forward in a panic.
"Wan Ying, it's me! I'm Runzhou! Don't be afraid; don't run!" Qi Runzhou was stunned by this sudden turn of events and hurried after her. She was pregnant; the situation did not look good. If necessary, he would take her back.
As she ran, Kang Wanying called out, "Runzhou! Where are you? Come save us! This is so scary!"
The dark walls of the space drove the already fragile Kang Wanying closer to collapse; everything looked like a Zombie to her. She unleashed her Ability repeatedly against those imagined Zombies.
Behind her, Qi Runzhou watched as she acted like a madwoman, striking at walls and corners indiscriminately. He dared not call out to her for fear of startling her into running faster; he could only follow closely behind, hoping to catch up and bring her back safely.
Wow, why are there more Zombies in this room? It's so terrifying! They even turn on each other, and a Zombie is eating another Zombie?
The disturbed Zombie lying on top suddenly turned its head, looking coldly and ominously at Kang Wanying.
Ah, I'm scared to death! I can't let myself be eaten by a Zombie; I can't suffer that torment again. I need to strike first. Yes, strike first. Kang Wanying unleashed an Ability at the Zombie above her, hitting it directly in the heart. The Zombie let out a muffled groan and rolled down.
"Stop!" Qi Runzhou, who had just arrived, saw Kang Wanying attacking a human and, fearing she would cause trouble, struck her on the neck from behind, knocking her unconscious.
Zhang Yu had already prepared himself mentally, no longer hesitating. Saving someone is not shameful; saving his brother is even less so. Just as he thought he was about to perform a surgery on a hemorrhoid, he suddenly felt calmness wash over him as Xu Qiubai slid straight off him. He initially thought it was a moment of conscience but realized it was someone else's intervention.
It seemed that male-male behavior was indeed something most people couldn't accept; they had gone straight for it. He had no idea that he and Xu Qiubai were seen by Kang Wanying as nothing more than two Zombies.
Zhang Yu continued to berate himself, completely unaware that his good brother Xu Qiubai had truly died just like that.
