This was Zhan Yixiao's first encounter with the renowned Squad. As expected, their reputation was well-deserved; they dispatched Zombies with remarkable efficiency and without hesitation. However, their methods were quite underhanded, as all the members were dressed in tightly wrapped clothing, hiding their identities and intentions.
Zhan Yixiao had brought a team of 1,000 Zombies, but only a little over a dozen possessed any semblance of intelligence or Ability; the rest were driven purely by instinct.
Jiang Zhisen was terrified of death. He had originally led over 500 people back to G Base, with the elite members of Squad accompanying him. Unfortunately, while passing near B Base, they encountered the Huaxia Army led by Qin Zhi Han. All of Qin Zhi Han's longing for Su Ruolan transformed into a fierce determination to strike at Jiang Zhisen. He and Su Ruolan had once been pursued by Squad, and upon discovering their tracks again, he unleashed Thunderous Might, resulting in the loss of half of Squad's personnel. As Jiang Zhisen continued southward and passed S Base, he was ambushed by Zhang Yu, further decimating his forces.
In such a desperate retreat, he almost believed he would never reach G Base safely until he discovered that secret—the opportunity that would allow him to rise again. He was determined not to die here.
Although the members under Jiang Zhisen's command had strong Abilities, the long journey and multiple battles had severely drained their energy. The outcome of this battle seemed inevitable; it was merely a matter of time.
“Captain, what should we do? I don’t want to become a Zombie!” Square-Faced Man suddenly cried out.
Zhan Yixiao watched as Jiang Zhisen clung to the hand of a girl who appeared to be just over ten years old. Upon seeing her face clearly, his anger flared; this shameless old lecher! The girl bore a striking resemblance to Su Ruolan and Rose—if the three stood together, one might suspect they were sisters.
Zhan Yixiao signaled his subordinates to capture someone alive. After all the Zombies had eliminated the other personnel, they surrounded Jiang Zhisen, Square-Faced Man, and the girl, closing in step by step.
Jiang Zhisen was in a panic but maintained an outward calmness; however, the sweat trickling down his temples betrayed his inner turmoil. Square-Faced Man was completely dazed, his face pale as he flailed his arms in sheer terror. In a moment of inspiration born from fear, he glanced at the surrounding situation and suddenly shoved Jiang Zhisen forward into Zhan Yixiao and his group. In a frantic voice, he exclaimed, “We have no grievances! You’re looking for him, right? He’s the bad guy! Just kill him! Spare me and I’ll do anything! I know he discovered an important secret—if you let me go, I’ll tell you!”
“You’re insane! You ungrateful wretch! You dare plead for mercy from Zombies? Do you think they understand you?” Jiang Zhisen couldn’t believe that this loyal dog who had always obeyed him would turn against him like this. Enraged, he aimed his gun at Square-Faced Man. As Square-Faced Man fell backward toward the Zombies behind him, Zhan Yixiao had previously instructed them to capture live targets; thus, they instinctively moved aside to avoid contact with Square-Faced Man, creating a temporary gap in their encirclement.
“Captain! Run!” Square-Faced Man shouted from the ground, desperately trying to prevent the Zombies from closing in again.
This sudden turn of events not only stunned Zhan Yixiao, but even Jiang Zhisen was taken aback.
"Captain, you need to get out of here!" the Square-Faced Man shouted again.
Jiang Zhisen glanced at the Square-Faced Man with a complex expression, then grabbed the girl and dashed out of the encirclement.
However, after just a few steps, a sharp pain shot through his head, causing him to stumble and fall to his knees on the ground.
