Y Base was surrounded by mountains, serving as a crucial checkpoint connecting the north and south passages. However, it was also incredibly treacherous; at its steepest point, the cliffs rose a thousand feet, making it impossible for birds to cross. 0

The people who lived atop these cliffs were skilled climbers from a young age, adept at traversing mountains and scaling sheer rock faces. In the past, their most prosperous industry was harvesting bird's nests, with each nest worth its weight in gold. Although this work was fraught with danger—many fell to their deaths each year—their descendants continued to uphold this ancient tradition. As a result, this tribe thrived in such a harsh environment, managing to survive and multiply without facing extinction. They were also known as the Yan Tribe. 0

Originally, Y Base was jointly governed by the Han and the Yan Tribe. After the apocalypse, as the capital increasingly lost control over the nation, it could only hold onto major cities. With dwindling supplies from the capital and provincial cities and rising ethnic tensions, all government officials eventually withdrew. The Yan Tribe at Y Base could not sever ties with their homeland and moved into the base, struggling to make ends meet. Fortunately, the population was small, and there were fewer mutations into Zombies; whenever one was discovered, they would burn it to death. 0

While Qin Zhi Han and others discussed reorganizing their forces and passing through Y Base, unrest brewed within Y Base itself. 0

In the Conference Hall, a soldier with deep-set eyes, a high nose bridge, and rough dark skin reported, "Chief, a large number of soldiers have been spotted outside the base—nearly a thousand of them—with real guns and nuclear weapons. Their intentions are unclear." 0

"What? More people are coming? It has been quiet for several months; why is everything happening all at once? This is truly unsettling," an elderly man with a white beard shook his head anxiously. 0

"More people? That might not be a bad thing. The last group brought us plenty of food; perhaps we can ask this new group for some as well. Times are getting tougher. If this continues, we'll starve," another elder with a patch of white hair on his forehead said brightly, seeing it as an opportunity. 0

"Indeed. Last month we lost several dozen tribesmen. It has been years since we had any newborns; if this continues, our tribe will face extinction," the white-bearded elder lamented further. 0

"The concerns you both have are also troubling me lately," said the Y Clan Leader. He was around thirty years old, tall and slender; despite having deep-set eyes and dark skin like the others, his features were perfectly proportioned, exuding an air of nobility along with a wild charisma. "Food can be managed; the real issue is medicine. Any injury leads to execution. While I believe everyone understands this situation, they cannot accept it. But if we do not control the source of the virus and everyone gets infected, that would truly spell disaster for our tribe." 0

"Chief, there is someone outside seeking an audience," a soldier entered to report. 0

"Tell them we won't meet. They should go where they need to go," the white-bearded elder interjected quickly. "Chief, we have enough supplies to last us for a while longer. Lately, my eyelids have been twitching incessantly; we should minimize contact with unknown groups. I heard that H Base recently had issues with S Base and G Base; if these newcomers are connected to them, we could face unwarranted disaster." 0

The White-Haired Elder, who had initially wanted to interject, fell silent. They had previously assisted the Huaxia Army. Although everyone understood the necessity of survival, if the Government Army were to arrive and discover any clues, it could lead to trouble for them as well. At this critical moment, it was better to avoid unnecessary complications. 0

"Since everyone feels this way, let's not meet," said the Y Clan Leader, seeing that both Elders were in agreement. 0

"Not meet? Why?" The people inside the tent, waiting for news, were taken aback. Colonel Wang Zhi asked anxiously. After restructuring, the three Commanders of the Huaxia Four Corps were now Wang Zhi, Jackson Wang, and Li Yuxuan, who normally participated in major discussions and decision-making. 0

"No reason, just no meeting, no reception," replied Hong Chuan. To show respect, he had specifically sent Hong Chuan, who had recently been promoted to Squad Leader, to deliver the message. 0

"Continue to track and find out the reason; we need to identify a breakthrough," ordered Qin Zhi Han. After a moment's thought, he added, "Shilei, you go deliver the message this time." 0

"Understood." During this restructuring, Shilei had also been promoted to Company Commander. He was decisive in his actions and detail-oriented; they hoped he could open up a path. 0

It took longer for him to return than it did for Hong Chuan. Even after inadvertently revealing their identity, the people at Y Base remained steadfast and resolutely refused to meet. This made things awkward. 0

"I'm sorry, Captain. I need to reflect; I still couldn't get things done," said Shilei, hanging his head in disappointment. 0

"It's not your fault. It seems something must have happened over there; otherwise, they wouldn't be so adamant," replied Qin Zhi Han, shaking his head to stop their self-reproach. 0

The personnel at the frontline discovered that the leading troops had lost all their supplies, ammunition, and numerous vehicles. The person in charge was extremely furious, giving each escort officer several hard slaps and demanding answers that yielded nothing. If it weren't for the fact that everyone wore similar expressions of confusion and bewilderment, he would have suspected them of collusion. Their suspicious gazes turned toward the nearby Y Base, which was known to be relatively affluent. Although officials from the Han government had repeatedly emphasized not provoking minority groups, without regular military protection, these people appeared vulnerable and exposed. 0

"The troops from S Base are getting too close. With our current capabilities, we absolutely cannot eliminate them. Since that's the case, let's prepare for guerrilla tactics. The Ability formation we've been practicing can come in handy," suggested Bai Zhen after analyzing the balance of power between them. 0

Su Ruolan approached near Y Base, gazing at its towering city gates, pondering how she could win over the Yan Tribe. 0

At that moment, a woman rushed towards the door, holding a child tightly in her arms, followed by a group of people who tried to surround her daughter, desperately persuading her to return with them. 0

"Yan'er, stop being stubborn and come back. He's already gone; can't you let him rest in peace?" a thin man shouted, his expression numb. 0

"No! He is my flesh and blood. As a father, you can give up, but I cannot. Just let us go!" Yan'er cried out, pleading as she held the child. 0

"That’s out of the question! Our clan has never allowed anyone to die outside. Come back to me!" The man raised his voice, shouting angrily. 0

Seeing that everyone had different opinions and communication was impossible, Yan'er decisively ran towards the city outskirts with the child in her arms. The crowd quickened their pace, gradually forming a half-circle around her, yet they dared not get too close, following her as she moved further away from Su Ruolan. 0

In a moment of distraction, Yan'er collided with Su Ruolan and nearly stumbled to the ground. Su Ruolan quickly reached out to steady her and noticed the infant in her arms, gasping in shock. 0
