Following Qin Zhi Han, Su Ruolan entered a dormitory. She pushed the door open to find the interior unusually simple, with a bed, a desk, two stools, and a cabinet. Qin Zhi Han set down his backpack, opened the cabinet, and took out a bottle of medicine from a hidden compartment. He turned to Su Ruolan and said, "Here, this medicine is very effective for removing scars. It's for you."
"No, it's fine. I don't need it; I'll just let it heal on its own," Su Ruolan said, waving her hands repeatedly. In this post-apocalyptic world, medicine was as valuable as gold, and their relationship wasn't close enough for her to accept such a generous gift.
"I'm a guy; I don't need this kind of medicine. Don't be polite. Girls like to look good, and having scars isn't ideal. How about I help you apply it?" Qin Zhi Han offered, pretending to approach her with the medicine.
To avoid revealing her injuries, Su Ruolan hurriedly took the bottle and stammered, "Well, thank you then. It's nothing; I should get going."
As she turned to leave, she didn't notice the fondness in Qin Zhi Han's eyes. He let out a long sigh and then realized that his shirt was completely soaked with sweat. No one knew the pain he felt when he saw Su Ruolan hanging in mid-air, nearly dying; the agony struck him so fiercely that it shattered his composure and made him break his promise by unleashing his lightning ability in anger. In that moment, his heart was filled with murderous rage and destructive fury. No one knew that when he held Su Ruolan in his arms and saw her still breathing, gratitude flooded his heart for this special girl. When she stepped into the Ninth Hospital's Tenth Floor to save him, her slender yet stubborn figure etched itself into his mind; fighting bravely against the Zombie King in Zone Five for ordinary people with courage and wisdom made him admire her even more. He thought he could confess after surviving the siege of zombies, but she seemed to harbor her own secrets and quietly disappeared, leaving him filled with regret. Upon arriving at the base and hearing her name mentioned while she was battling mutated plants on the front lines, he could no longer contain his excitement and desperately wanted to see her—he couldn't wait even a second; it felt like an eternity just to catch a glimpse of her. Fortunately, he managed to catch up with her. Since she was still naive about feelings and avoided them, he decided to touch her heart with sincerity and protect her.
Back in her room, Su Ruolan opened the medicine bottle and gently sniffed it; a rich medicinal aroma wafted through the air. "Wow, this medicine is of good quality," Reset exclaimed.
Su Ruolan opened her collar and looked in the mirror; indeed, the originally red and swollen marks had vanished completely, leaving her neck as white as jade. She returned to her space with the medicine bottle. In her hundred-acre field, golden rice ears bent low under their weight, each grain plump and large. The fruit trees planted in sections were laden with fruits—peaches, apples, grapes, kiwis—dozens of varieties ripening simultaneously despite different seasons causing branches to tremble under their load. Vegetables like cucumbers, tomatoes, and radishes needed some care; surprisingly, wooden racks had appeared in the space where every plant thrived.
"Wow! This has really expanded!" Su Ruolan exclaimed joyfully.
"Master, you finally came in," Monet's deep voice resonated like a bass drum.
Su Ruolan turned around in surprise. Monet had gained seven or eight pounds and had grown even taller.
"What kind of treasure did you eat to grow like this?" Su Ruolan asked in astonishment.
"Master, I want to eat the mountain chicken. There's a hill over there where the mountain chicken is really delicious. I really want to live there. Please agree, okay?" Monet's voice was pleasant to hear, and even though it carried a strong plea, it was impossible to feel any annoyance.
"How could there be mountain chickens?" Su Ruolan asked, puzzled.
"The space has begun to generate things on its own. Currently, there are only some lower-tier animals, and their variety is still quite limited. Recently, Monet ate too much and got too fat, so I arranged for it to do some work. Ruo Lan, don't you think those structures are built quite well?" Reset smiled.
Thinking back to the previous dark servitude, Monet couldn't help but shiver; Zero Boss was too ruthless, treating animals like people.
With this space, it was like having a large granary—what was there to fear in the apocalypse? Su Ruolan couldn't help but smile and breathe a sigh of relief. Lying on the green grass under the blue sky and breathing in the fragrant sweet air made her think of the future. Once she found him, avenged herself, fought alongside Runzhou for humanity's future, and found Rose to revive the treasure, her life would be complete. If all else failed, their family could live in this space together.
"Ruo Lan, there's something I need to tell you: my space doesn't exist indefinitely. If we can't upgrade in time, recover the inheritance, and activate the regeneration ability, it will soon be sealed again, and the soul contractor of the space will be forcibly erased," Reset said, unable to hold back the cold water.
"What do you mean?" Su Ruolan sat up in shock.
"I only remembered this after reaching Level Two," Reset said sheepishly. "The energy at Level One can sustain life for a month, and we just happened to reach Level Two before a full month passed; otherwise, lower-tier levels cannot gain recognition for inheritance."
Thinking about it sent a chill down her spine; indeed, nothing comes without effort. Rebirth and gaining abilities wouldn't come without a price. There’s no such thing as a free lunch; enjoying benefits also requires paying a huge cost. "So how much time do we have left now?" Su Ruolan asked seriously.
"Based on the current situation, there should be about 100 years until the energy runs out in this space—equivalent to 100 years outside," Reset estimated.
"So if we can't help you upgrade, we only have a little over three months of life left?" Su Ruolan confirmed.
"Yes, I'm sorry," Reset said with guilt.
"Since we are partners, we should stand together through thick and thin, sharing life and death. Thankfully, you told me early on. From now on, we must constantly encourage and remind each other; we cannot slack off and must strive hard," Su Ruolan said, her spirit lifted and determination brimming. Indeed, a life of ease was nothing but a distant dream.
Taking out the Core of the Mutated Tree, Su Ruolan placed it into the lake within her space. After nurturing it, the Core purified itself, shrinking to the size of an egg, its colors a mix of green and gray, becoming translucent. Su Ruolan activated her Ability, working hard to absorb the energy from the Core. She struggled against the conflicts and resistance of the energy, enduring various painful sensations as if her bones were being torn apart. Finally, the green energy continuously merged into her Wood Elemental Ability, causing three and a half trees to glow brightly as her Wood Elemental Ability advanced to mid-level four. The gray devouring energy fused with the white Anka, transforming it into a milky white hue; four Ankas lit up as her Healing Ability rose to high-level four. Unfortunately, this energy was like a drop in the ocean for the accumulation of energy in Reset's space.
Exiting her space, Su Ruolan returned to sit by her bedside. With life once again facing a crisis, she resolved to accelerate her energy collection; she could not afford to sit idly by but needed to take proactive measures. After some thought, Su Ruolan headed towards Colonel Wang Zhi's office.
The guard stood straight at attention. Upon seeing Su Ruolan arrive at the door, he was about to knock and announce her presence when laughter erupted from inside: "Qin Zhi Han, you truly are a young talent; you've worked hard these years."
The guard reported inside, and Su Ruolan pushed the door open. Ma Commander, Zhang Deputy Commander, Qin Zhi Han, Li Yuxuan, and several unfamiliar faces were gathered together in lively discussion. Upon seeing Su Ruolan, Ma Commander exclaimed joyfully, "Ruo Lan! I hear you've made great contributions; we were just about to go see you with your Commander. You've recovered so quickly—are you uninjured?"
"I'm fine; thank you for your concern, Captain," Su Ruolan replied lightly.
"Come over and sit; let me introduce you to a new comrade," Ma Commander said straightforwardly.
"I'll introduce myself. Actually, I’m already familiar with Ruo Lan; this is just our first formal meeting," Qin Zhi Han said as he stepped forward to face Su Ruolan. Looking into her eyes earnestly, he introduced himself: "Hello, I am Qin Zhi Han, Vice Captain of the Huaxia Army Fourth Regiment."
Su Ruolan was momentarily taken aback but quickly masked her surprise. "Hello, welcome."
