As Su Ruolan stealthily moved through the city, she quietly stashed a jeep into her space. Passing by the entrance, she knocked out a duty officer who resembled her in build, smudged her face with dirt, and donned his uniform to blend in. At that moment, the fierce battle had just subsided, and the city guards were weary; seeing someone come to relieve them, they relaxed their scrutiny. 0

Taking advantage of the distraction, Su Ruolan quickly distanced herself from the city gate and hid in an abandoned house in the outer city. Just as she pulled out the jeep and started it up, the door suddenly swung open, and two people walked in. 0

Su Ruolan froze for a moment and stepped out of the vehicle. 0

"Finally found you," Kong Xiang said with a smile. 0

"Sister Su, can I go with you?" Cheng Xi asked timidly. 0

"Our paths are different," Su Ruolan replied. 0

"How do you know our paths are different? We are all lonely people; why not travel together?" Kong Xiang said earnestly, his youthful face serious. "I don't know what you plan to do, but I promise I won't be a burden." 0

"Yes, Sister Su, I have no family left in H City. You saved me; I just want to follow you. Oh, I can kill zombies; I won't hold you back," Cheng Xi added eagerly. 0

"I don't know what the future holds, but if you insist on following me, I must state that absolute loyalty is required. I cannot tolerate betrayal. If you can do that, then you will be my companions. I promise to protect you with all my strength." Looking at the sincere expressions and eager eyes of the two young people, Su Ruolan felt an inexplicable softness in her heart. 0

"Okay, Sister Su, we swear to be loyal to you for life. If we break this oath, may we not end well," Kong Xiang and Cheng Xi vowed earnestly. 0

Su Ruolan gestured for them to get in the car. "Sister Ruo Lan, during the battle in the city last time, Cheng Xi awakened his Gold System Ability; he is now at level one intermediate," Kong Xiang informed her. 0

"That Ability is impressive; it has strong offensive power. Make sure to practice well," Su Ruolan said as she drove. 0

Hearing Su Ruolan's affirmation made Cheng Xi smile brightly, his eyes sparkling. At that moment, this resolute-faced girl revealed a hint of youthful spirit. 0

"Kong Xiang, what about your Ability? Last time we were pressed for time; I didn't get to ask what happened," Su Ruolan suddenly recalled their previous conversation and asked. 0

"I don't really know. I was waiting outside for my brother to return when I got caught in acid rain. When I got back inside, I had a headache and then fainted. The only thing that came to mind was the bloody scene of zombies slaughtering humans in Hongfu District. I saw my family perish; some would come looking for me and protect me—then I saw you in a place I'd never been before. After I woke up, you were gone," Kong Xiang recounted slowly as he reminisced. 0

"What else did you foresee?" Cheng Xi asked curiously upon hearing this. 0

"I can't see anything anymore; after meeting Sister Ruo Lan, everything just vanished," Kong Xiang shook his head. 0

"Your ability is really unreliable," Cheng Xi couldn't help but chuckle. 0

"Sister Ruo Lan, I knew you would leave H Base, so I waited for you at City Gate for a long time. My current invisibility range can cover two people, and once I saw you, I followed you out of the city," Kong Xiang explained. 0

"How can you see me if your eyes can't see anything?" Su Ruolan asked curiously. 0

"I truly can't see anything, but as long as you're within my spiritual awareness range, I can sense you immediately," Kong Xiang replied, equally puzzled. 0

"Wow, that means you're even more sensitive than a dog's nose," Cheng Xi joked. 0

Watching the two tease each other brought a warmth to Su Ruolan's heart. The journey ahead was long, but with companions by her side, her courage grew. 0

The base was located in the southeast direction of H Base, established by the Huaxia Society in the midst of the Dragon Tiger Mountain Range. Due to its location in the mountains and surrounded by peaks, transportation was inconvenient. Before Dark Day, City G and City S had bombarded it multiple times but had never achieved significant results. After Dark Day, as the zombie siege intensified, there was no longer any attention given to the development of the Huaxia Society at the base. 0

Driving along the highway, they passed a service area. Su Ruolan turned into it to see if she could gather supplies. The gas station had run out of fuel completely, and the supermarket was emptied of food. This was already on the outskirts of Longhu Mountain; after several rounds of sieges, usable supplies were nearly nonexistent. Feeling a bit disappointed but not surprised, she was about to leave when she suddenly sensed an aura that did not belong to humans. Su Ruolan immediately signaled Kong Xiang and Cheng Xi to prepare for battle. The three approached the restaurant slowly, pushed open the door abruptly, and were met with two zombies. 0

The younger one had only been about five years old when it mutated; it had sharp fangs, a grayish complexion, silver hair, and orange pupils. Unlike common zombies whose eyes were dull, this one showed a glimmer of clarity and vigilance upon seeing Su Ruolan and the others. Its right arm was severed at the elbow, and beside it was a thin Middle-Aged Woman Zombie. Strangely enough, despite her mutation, she still retained traces of her former beauty; judging by their features, they appeared to be mother and son. On the table in front of them lay a bloody corpse of a mutated animal; it was clear they were feeding. 0

Upon seeing Su Ruolan and her companions, the Orange-Eyed Young Zombie protected the Middle-Aged Woman Zombie and began to growl softly at them. 0

Faced with this zombie who still remembered to protect its mother, Su Ruolan felt a stir in her heart. It seemed that these two were not evil people in life; their transformation into zombies was not by choice. They were consuming animal blood and flesh; unlike typical zombies that preyed on humans, this mother-son duo still retained some humanity—a rare occurrence indeed. 0

Cheng Xi looked at the pair with a puzzled expression. 0

"Let's go," Su Ruolan said; she wasn't one to kill indiscriminately. Compassion welled up within her as she addressed the Orange-Eyed Young Zombie, "I'll let you go this time. If I encounter you again committing murder next time, I won't hold back." 0

She beckoned Kong Xiang and Cheng Xi to leave as they slowly drove away from the service area. 0

Watching Su Ruolan and her companions depart, the Orange-Eyed Young Zombie's eyes brightened with curiosity. The previously tense expression gradually relaxed as he gently patted the middle-aged Female Zombie huddled beside him and led her back to the table to continue eating. He placed the grenade he had been holding with his long fingers on the table. 0

"Sister Su," Cheng Xi said, deep in thought, "that female Zombie looked familiar. I feel like I've seen her somewhere." 0

"Really? They must have been quite famous in their previous lives," Su Ruolan speculated. "Kong Xiang, did you notice anything?" 0

Cheng Xi nudged Kong Xiang, who was staring blankly and not saying a word. "Sister Su is asking you." 0

Kong Xiang snapped out of his daze and turned to Su Ruolan, hesitantly asking, "When Sister Ruo Lan was standing with that male Zombie just now, some images flashed before my eyes. I couldn't see them clearly, but Sister Ruo Lan, do you know him?" 0

"This is the first time I've seen him, both before and after the apocalypse. How could I have any connection with him?" Su Ruolan replied, puzzled. 0

"I don't know either, but the prophecy indicated that you have a close relationship," Kong Xiang insisted. 0

"Why didn't you ask him directly?" Cheng Xi complained. 0

"After seeing the prophetic scene, I lost my ability to speak and could only act on instinct alongside Sister Ruo Lan," Kong Xiang said with a bitter smile. "It might be a low-level defect; maybe it will improve once my Ability levels up." 0

"In the future, it's crucial that you never activate that Ability again. If we hadn't been there just now, you would have been in great danger," Su Ruolan said with concern. 0

"Yeah," Kong Xiang nodded, swallowing the words he wanted to say. Sister Ruo Lan would never be with that Zombie; how could they possibly have a Female Zombie baby?! Absolutely impossible. He had to prevent them from getting too close. 0
