"Report, nearly ten thousand Zombies have gathered outside the city." A soldier rushed into the conference room, pushing the door open. 0

"Report, there were already a thousand Mutated Zombies in Zone Five before they spread further." Another soldier came running in, drenched in sweat and looking anxious. 0

"Colonel Zhu, what are we going to do now?" Colonel Jiang asked darkly. 0

"Captain Qin, what do you think we should do?" Colonel Zhu turned to Qin Zhi Han. 0

Qin Zhi Han and Su Ruolan were on their way back to Zone Two when they received the notification and immediately headed to the Administrative Building for an emergency meeting. With no other choice, they brought Su Ruolan along to the Administrative Building. Since Su Ruolan was not part of the military, she had to wait outside the conference room for news. 0

On their way back to Zone Two, Bai Zhen and the others were pleasantly surprised to find their injuries healing at an astonishing rate. They realized that it must be due to something extraordinary that Su Ruolan had given them. All of them had shared the experience of the mysterious supermarket and the life-and-death battle at Longhu Mountain with Su Ruolan, so they tacitly kept this anomaly to themselves. 0

Jackson Wang couldn't help but praise, "Our girl is impressive." 0

"Exactly! She fought against a vicious wolf, fell off a cliff, and still returned unscathed. She's a real tough woman, not inferior to our men," another person chimed in. 0

"She's that amazing? You all know her? At that time, she had me by the throat asking where Captain Qin was. I thought I was done for," Liu Dan pretended to be scared. 0

"That's when we encountered her while looking for supplies. At first, she thought we were bandits trying to extort protection fees for our supplies," Bai Zhen recalled with a knowing smile. 0

"Only the Wolf Brigade would act like that; other teams would just line their pockets. When they meet survivors outside, they always try to squeeze them for something," Liu Dan said indignantly. 0

"Colonel Zhu pretends to restrain his subordinates while Colonel Jiang turns a blind eye. Do you think they don't know? Hmph, who knows how many benefits they've received behind closed doors? The Company Commander has stayed at H Base all these years out of gratitude for Colonel Zhu's support," Bai Zhen said helplessly. 0

Since Ninth Hospital was relatively close to Zone Two, Bai Zhen and the others quickly arrived at the Residential Area. After getting out of the car, Jackson Wang noticed several dents on the hood and complained, "What kind of rain is this? Hail? The car is full of holes." 0

Bai Zhen immediately became alert and sensed the raindrops contained volatile energy. "You all hurry inside. I need to go out again." He left everyone behind and drove off into the rain. A medicine packet and a note subtly appeared from his sleeve; the note had a few hastily written words: "Villa Area, Zhang Yu." 0

Inside the conference room, Qin Zhi Han said, "We need to organize a counterattack immediately. The military will engage from a distance while Ability users attack at close range at the city gates. We also need to send messengers to S Base and nearby bases for assistance; we can't ignore so many civilians in Zone Five." 0

"Given the current situation, there aren't enough troops to split up for battle. All Ability users and military personnel must gather at the city gates for defense; we must hold our ground or everyone will die. Close off all passageways between zones; we can deal with Zone Five after repelling the enemy. To save most lives, some bloodshed is inevitable. Zhang Shaoshuai happens to be inside the city; it would be best to ask him to send someone for reinforcements," Colonel Jiang decisively stated. 0

“Zone Five has a population of 100,000. How can that not be considered the majority? Once the Isolation Gate is activated, what chance do these people have?” Qin Zhi Han retorted. 0

“You're being hypocritical. Are the hundreds of thousands in Zone Four not human? Those weaklings shouldn't be allowed to continue living,” Jiang Yan exclaimed angrily. 0

“Let’s do this: I’ll take charge and arrange for a hundred people to go to Zone Five for rescue. The passage from Zone Five to Zone Four will be delayed for half an hour before closing. This way, we’ve done our best; it’s up to them now,” Colonel Zhu said hastily, sensing the rising tension. 0

Upon hearing this, Colonel Jiang no longer opposed it. “Then it’s settled. Everyone prepare to return; we’ll all meet on the city wall in five minutes.” 0

“Such an interesting event, how could I miss it?” The door to the conference room suddenly swung open, and a dashing figure appeared before everyone. 0

“Young Commander, hello! We were just about to ask you to take charge. There are nearly ten thousand Zombies gathering outside the city, and thousands of civilians inside have mutated. We’re at a critical juncture of survival; please command the operation. We will absolutely obey your orders, and you must request reinforcements from the Commander,” Colonel Zhu said eagerly, as if he had found a strong ally in Zhang Yu. 0

“Hmph.” Jiang Yan immediately felt displeased and was about to explode but sat back down reluctantly after receiving a sidelong glance from Colonel Jiang. 0

Seeing Zhang Yu arrive, Colonel Jiang’s face instantly brightened with a smile. Just as he was about to speak, Colonel Zhu jumped in ahead of him. Thus, he fell silent and quietly took out a cigarette, lighting it and taking a puff as the glowing ember flickered. 0

“Young Commander is still young and not very familiar with the defenses at H Base; it would be difficult for him to take on this important task. I think everyone has discussed this well already. I will send someone to request help from my father shortly. Colonel Jiang, you have extensive experience and strong capabilities; I will rely on you for protection,” Zhang Yu said with charming eyes that sparkled with warmth. His handsome features were even more striking when he smiled, making others feel as if spring had arrived, stirring up fondness in their hearts. 0

“Thank you for your trust, Young Commander. Since that’s the case, I won’t stand on ceremony. According to our previous plans, everyone should act immediately,” Colonel Jiang said as he flicked off the last ash from his cigarette and straightened his clothes. 0

The group filed out of the conference room. 0

Zhang Yu walked ahead and, taking advantage of everyone’s distraction, leaned down near Su Ruolan and teased, “The disobedient girl doesn’t know her way home anymore? Do you need me to come find you? Come back with me.” 0

Su Ruolan felt puzzled; even though Bai Zhen had given Zhang Yu the medicine pack, given his injuries, he shouldn’t look so unscathed now. Confused, she looked at Zhang Yu with a hint of doubt in her gaze. 0

“Ruo Lan.” Qin Zhi Han stepped out and saw Zhang Yu standing next to Su Ruolan; he immediately approached them. 0

“I’m taking Ruo Lan back to the Residential Area,” Zhang Yu interjected. 0

Qin Zhi Han paused for a moment before addressing Su Ruolan. “Soon we’ll all be heading to defend the city gate; nearly ten thousand Zombies have approached from outside and they’ve all evolved. Inside Zone Five, civilians have mutated as well; the military is only sending 100 people for rescue and will close off the passage between zones in half an hour. You don’t need to follow me anymore; if…” Qin Zhi Han hesitated before saying to Su Ruolan, “Take care of yourself.” 0

“Qin Zhi Han, what are you doing? Ruo Lan isn’t a soldier; she doesn’t need to know these things,” Zhang Yu attempted to interrupt Qin Zhi Han’s words, his charming eyes no longer filled with mirth. But Qin Zhi Han remained unaffected, his gaze fixed on Su Ruolan as he quickly summarized the situation. The unspoken implications were clear between them: they would face a harsh reality filled with difficult choices between life and death. 0

"I..." Su Ruolan felt a surge of confusion. She had originally intended to check on Qin Zhi Han, and once she confirmed he was fine, she planned to head to the base. However, she never expected to encounter a large-scale zombie siege. While she could manage to protect herself alone, she found herself hesitating over whether to leave or stay. 0

"You should go back with Young Commander first. I believe you'll be safe with him," Qin Zhi Han said, glancing at Zhang Yu before turning away without looking back. 0

"Hey, what's with this guy? You were supposed to come with me; what does it have to do with him?" Zhang Yu complained, watching Qin Zhi Han's retreating figure. 0

Seeing Su Ruolan standing still, Zhang Yu leaned against her shoulder and whispered, "Help me get out of here." 0

It was then that Su Ruolan noticed beads of sweat forming at Zhang Yu's temples. She quickly helped him downstairs. Zhang Yan was anxiously waiting in the car. As soon as he saw Zhang Yu and Su Ruolan emerge, he opened the door and welcomed them inside. 0

"To the villa," Zhang Yu said as he settled in, but before he could finish his sentence, he fainted. 0

Zhang Yan realized there was no time to waste and immediately sped off. 0

"Zhang Yan, what happened to him?" Su Ruolan asked. 0

"Young Commander saw that I hadn't brought you back and insisted on coming out to find you. He injected himself with a painkiller that makes one feel no pain for a short period. Now it seems the effects have worn off, and it's starting to backfire," Zhang Yan replied quickly. 0

Su Ruolan was stunned as she looked at the unconscious Zhang Yu resting his head on her shoulder, her gaze filled with confusion. 0
