The girl smiled sweetly at Xiao Xuanxuan and then nodded.
However, she did not leave immediately. Instead, she walked up to the barrier and tossed a conical building block, clearly meant for children, with a very obvious fake smile, saying, "This is for you, Ranran."
The block smoothly passed through the barrier and came over. Mu Xuanche and I exchanged glances in silence. Why could this block come in?
What was this girl's intention? Why was she so unpredictable?
All of this remained a mystery.
The girl clapped her hands as if discarding some trash and then turned around, her adorable figure walking out through the door.
Watching her attitude after throwing down the block only left us more confused. If she wanted to give it to us, why act like that? If she didn't want to give it, no one was forcing her to do so.
This girl brought us too many questions.
Once she left, Xiao Xuanxuan turned to us and said, "Aren't you professional Exorcists? If you saw the client in my hands, what would you do?"
Hearing this, the three of us realized something was wrong; Junfeng Wang must be in Xiao Xuanxuan's hands right now.
Suddenly, Xiao Xuanxuan raised her right hand, and in the corner above her, Junfeng Wang appeared out of nowhere. He stood there dazed, as if he hadn't yet grasped what was happening.
Junfeng Wang thought: I was just at the office; how did I end up in this dark unknown place?
He had called Mu Xuanche and the others for lunch earlier, but they never showed up and didn’t answer their phones. So he had no choice but to grab a quick bite alone before returning to work.
Now, looking at the scene before him, Junfeng Wang was nearly terrified. The masters were trapped inside some dark golden thing and couldn’t get out, while in front of him stood the Vengeful Spirit Xiao Xuanxuan. He felt a sense of despair wash over him.
Xiao Xuanxuan looked at Junfeng Wang gently and then walked towards him.
Junfeng Wang saw Xiao Xuanxuan's graceful figure approaching him step by step, yet he felt as if he were facing a formidable enemy, panic overwhelming him.
His limbs trembled uncontrollably, and his lips quivered as he said, "Xiao Xuanxuan, don’t come any closer! You... you... don’t come near!"
Xiao Xuanxuan stopped two meters away from him, her expression sorrowful. "Junfeng, why won’t you let me come closer? Don’t you love me anymore? We haven’t broken up yet."
Seeing Xiao Xuanxuan's neurotic demeanor nearly drove Junfeng Wang to the brink of collapse. He grabbed his hair with both hands, his face contorted in anguish.
At that moment, he could no longer tolerate this version of Xiao Xuanxuan. He shouted uncontrollably, "Yes, I loved you once, but we’re not suitable for each other! I’ve already told you that! It’s you who keeps clinging to me!"
Then, as if he had nothing left to lose, he spoke with a dazed expression. "If I had known I would meet you at that banquet, I would have preferred not to go. But I did go; that’s a fact. When you pursued me, I went along with it too. Xiao Jie, we’re not compatible. You come from a prestigious family while I’m just a self-made boss. Our backgrounds, education, and upbringing are too different; we simply don’t match."
Junfeng Wang managed a bittersweet smile and continued, "But your father came to find me. He patted my shoulder and said, 'Junfeng, she likes you. Why won’t you give it a try and be with her? Seeing her so downcast pains me as a father. You have to try everything at least once. Look at this steel construction project in Joy Valley; you could give it a shot! How will you know if your company won’t be chosen if you don’t even try?'"
At this point, Junfeng Wang laughed loudly, but it was laced with sarcasm. "I understood what your father meant. My company isn’t worth much; I need to land a big project quickly to advance. So I accepted you, and then my company was selected. See? It’s that simple! You privileged classes make it so easy! People like me can only choose to accept because it benefits me. But who has ever cared about my true feelings?"
He crouched down, lowering his head as he murmured, "You’re willful and clingy; my company still needs me. I’m terrified of being poor. My father died because he couldn’t afford medical treatment. I only have my mother left; I need money—lots of money."
Listening to Junfeng Wang's monologue stirred some sympathy within me.
Suddenly his voice turned pained. "You always think I don’t do enough for you, but have you ever considered my side? Even now, you've turned into a Vengeful Spirit to find me; we’re still from different worlds. You cling to me and bring misfortune upon me, causing the company I poured my heart into to slowly decline. I simply can’t compete with you."
Xiao Xuanxuan was stunned into silence by his words.
At that moment, something resembling a bloody child stumbled over from somewhere unknown.
He walked behind Xiao Xuanxuan, peering out from a face smeared with blood, and said to Junfeng Wang, "Dad, why don't you want me?"
The child's voice was innocent and sweet, yet it sounded particularly eerie in the empty room. Junfeng Wang lifted his head and looked at the child behind Xiao Xuanxuan, retreating in terror.
Muttering to himself, he said, "You are not my son! You are your mother’s with someone else; you are not my son!"
Junfeng Wang's hands flailed about as if he were caught in a trance, appearing somewhat delirious.
I watched this scene unfold with concern, unsure of how to react. Everyone in this story was painfully struggling to survive in a tangled web of right and wrong. How could one distinguish between them? Whose fault was it really?
The child held Xiao Xuanxuan's hand and stepped forward: "Dad, I am your son. I really am. Why don’t you believe me?"
Junfeng Wang's response shocked everyone present.
"You are not my son! You are your mother’s with someone else; I arranged that—I know it! Go away; I don’t have a son like you."
In a fit of rage, Junfeng Wang swung his arms wildly as if he had gone mad.
Xiao Xuanxuan began to cry, her voice filled with pain: "Why do you treat me like this? I love you so much, yet you frame me."
Junfeng Wang looked up and shouted at her, "Is that love? You’re forcing me! You’re pushing me to my death! After being with you, I have to report everything to you. Do you know how many people laugh at me? They all think I’m lucky to have climbed the tree of your Xiao Family. As long as I have you, Xiao Xuanxuan, I won’t have to worry about food and drink for the rest of my life."
Junfeng Wang pressed his lips together, his expression twisted: "But damn it, I’m a man! I’m not some kept man living off someone else! I have my own career."
He spread his hands in despair and laughed bitterly: "But now no one sees that. All they see is you and the power and wealth of your Xiao Family. What am I, Junfeng Wang? Just a nobody? Ah! Who cares about my efforts? To outsiders, it’s all just given by your Xiao Family. Is there any dignity left for me as a man? Is there?!"
Xiao Xuanxuan calmed down and replied with a sorrowful mockery: "So you can’t accept me? Is it because my Xiao Family is so powerful?"
Junfeng Wang's face was cold as he suppressed his emotions and replied, "Yes."
Xiao Xuanxuan, holding her son, spoke softly, "Do you really think that's the case? Let me tell you, it's not. It's your own twisted sense of pride that's causing all this. Don't push all of this onto the Xiao Family. Yes, you come from a poor background, but who has ever looked down on you? No one; the only person who has always looked down on you is yourself!"
Xiao Xuanxuan nearly shouted the last sentence.
Then she continued, "You think that no one sees your efforts, that others don't recognize your success. Why do you think you've been selected as one of the National Young Entrepreneurs for two consecutive years? Was it because the Xiao Family went to the government to buy it for you? It's always been your lack of confidence; no one looks down on you."
Junfeng Wang muttered to himself, "You're a liar; you're deceiving me..."
Xiao Xuanxuan laughed as if she had heard the most ridiculous joke. "I'm deceiving you? At this point, why would I deceive you? Don't you know how many people envied me for being with someone like you, a quality potential partner? My father even planned to hand over full control of the Xiao Family to you after we got married. And yet you think I'm too clingy."
