Mu Xuanche pulled him out from a pile of Polluted Blood and threw him in front of me.
I wanted to go help him, but Mu Xuanche held me back.
He warned, "This blood is dangerous; don't touch it."
"Oh," I immediately retracted my outstretched hand.
He, who usually disliked contact with others, endured his discomfort to drag He Zhi Yong back for my sake.
This gratitude could only be kept in my heart as I followed him step by step out.
When we reached the entrance of the tomb, he took off his shirt and wrapped He Zhi Yong's hand with it before handing it to me.
"I can't appear right now; you need to drag him out."
Although I didn't understand Mu Xuanche's intentions, I complied as I always did when he spoke.
I didn't expect that despite He Zhi Yong's thin frame, he was quite heavy. It nearly exhausted me to drag him to the door.
From a distance, I spotted Wang Kun looking around, so I called out to him, "Hurry over and help me! I can't move him anymore!"
Seeing us, he seemed surprised and paused for a moment before leisurely walking over to assist me with He Zhi Yong.
"Wang, have you seen Mingyue and Dahan?"
He turned his head to look at me and nodded, "Yes, just now Big Brother was spitting blood, Mingyue took him to the hospital."
Hearing that he was sent to the hospital, I felt somewhat relieved.
"Could you please take me to the hospital as well? I'm fine, but He Daozhang needs to be checked out."
"Sister Gu, how come you're fine?"
In response to his question, I shot him a glare. "Do you want me to be in trouble?"
"No, no, that's not what I meant! I was just concerned about you."
Seeing his expression made me uncomfortable. If it weren't for the fact that I still needed his help, I would have argued with him.
Suppressing my anger and choosing not to argue, I said, "Wang, please help us and take us to the hospital first."
Under my pressure and persuasion, he finally agreed.
He took us to the hospital where we met up with them. After He Zhiyong completed a series of tests and the doctor confirmed that he had only inhaled a sedative and would wake up soon, I temporarily set aside my worries about him and went to find Mingyue.
The big guy had an issue with his chest cavity, so I headed straight to the fourth floor to look for them.
From a distance, I saw Mingyue sitting in the hospital corridor, covered in mud, with her head buried between her knees looking utterly exhausted.
I slowly walked over and wrapped my arms around her, gently swaying her. "Are you okay?"
She stirred and lifted her head. "Yan Xi, I feel like I'm about to collapse."
"I feel the same. What did the doctor say?"
"The doctor took some X-rays and said that the big guy has a broken rib. We still need to check if there are any internal injuries."
I was taken aback by how serious his injuries were and leaned weakly against the wall.
Suddenly, a group of men in black rushed towards us, scrutinizing me closely. The leader stepped forward and politely asked, "Are you Sister Gu?"
I watched them warily. "Who are you?"
The man respectfully replied, "Sister Gu, we are sent by the Island Master. We heard that Mu Boss was injured and came here specifically."
My guard was up to an extreme level now as I stared at them. "Do you have any proof?"
The man turned around and made a phone call, then handed me the phone.
I took the phone with a racing heart, feeling incredibly tense.
"Wife, leave it to them and come back,"
came the calm voice of Mu Xuanche from the other end of the phone, showing no signs of tension.
If he were anyone else, he would call me Yan Xi instead of Wife, because only Mu Xuanche would refer to me as Wife in private, and he had done so only a handful of times.
I handed the phone back to the man and took Mingyue's hand, preparing to leave.
"Yan Xi, where are we going? The big guy here can't be left alone. What will happen if we leave?"
Mingyue's words reminded me of something. I turned back to the man in black and instructed him, "You know who I am, right?"
The man nodded vigorously.
Feeling a bit amused by my own bravado, I suppressed a laugh and continued giving orders. "There's another man on the eighth floor named He Zhi Yong; he's my friend. Make sure someone goes up to take care of him."
"Understood, Sister Gu,"
the man replied respectfully. Satisfied with his answer, I took Mingyue and left.
As soon as we stepped outside, Mingyue grabbed my arm and asked, "What on earth is going on? Who were those people just now? Is it okay to leave Da Han and He Zhi Yong with them?"
"I don't know who they are either. They're just people sent by the Island Master. I trust the Island Master," I replied.
Mingyue seemed like she wanted to ask more, but I interrupted her. "Alright, let's head back for now. We might have more work to do tonight."
To my surprise, my words turned out to be a bit of an ominous prediction.
After returning to the hotel, I told Mingyue to go back to her room while I headed to Mu Xuanche's room.
As I approached the door, it opened automatically.
This guy was something else. Inside, he was sitting at his computer fiddling with something. "Impressive! How does an Ancient like you know how to use a computer?"
"Wife, you underestimate Husband's intelligence. If I didn't know how, would you think the industries of Qilin Island just fell into our laps?"
Seeing his blank expression staring at me made me feel a momentary pang of self-doubt; maybe I really was the foolish one here.
I quietly rolled away to take a shower since he seemed too busy to notice me anyway.
To prevent any unexpected incidents like last time, I not only locked the door but also pushed a chair against it for extra security.
While taking a shower, I couldn't shake off my unease, so I hurriedly washed up and got out.
As I stepped outside, I accidentally bumped my leg against a chair, which was just typical of me.
When I looked around, I saw him still working on his computer.
"Aren't you worried that this hotel might be under surveillance and our information could get leaked?"
I casually mentioned it, just to provoke him a little.
To my surprise, he replied seriously, "When Husband checked in here, he replaced everyone inside with people from Qilin Island."
I stood there in shock, my mouth agape. No wonder he was so calm discussing matters in the lobby; it was because of this.
"Stop dawdling! We don't have much time. Hurry up and dry your hair; I'm taking you out," he urged.
"Where are we going?"
He glanced at me, and I immediately knew not to ask further. I obediently dried my hair.
Afterward, he led me to the back door of the hotel. After walking through a long corridor, we got into a black sedan.
I wasn't familiar with car brands, so I couldn't tell what kind of car it was at all.
I only knew to get into the car with Mu Xuanche. Once inside, he ordered me to sleep.
I wanted to argue, but I was genuinely tired, so I obediently leaned against his shoulder and fell asleep.
The driver had decent skills, and I slept soundly the entire way.
This led me to pull on Mu Xuanche after we got out of the car and ask, "Is your driver human or ghost? His driving skills are incredible."
As expected, I received a sharp slap and then a scolding from him.
"Stop talking nonsense."
After being scolded, I blinked my eyes around and realized this place was like a deep mountain forest. I had no idea why Mu Xuanche brought me here.
Just as I was about to ask, he shot me a glare.
He pulled me along, instructing others not to follow, as we walked deeper into the woods.
We passed through dense foliage and finally arrived at a shack. The lights inside were bright, indicating someone lived there.
From a distance, I heard the familiar sound of a child crying. I turned to look at Mu Xuanche, and after he nodded, I rushed forward without hesitation.
Pushing the door open, I saw a man in a white shirt holding a baby in his arms.
I didn't need to look to know it was Chang'an. I rushed over and took Chang'an from Bai Qiling's arms.
Bai Qiling didn't stop me; instead, he muttered, "What’s wrong with this kid? Just a moment ago, everything was fine, and now he's crying. If someone didn’t know better, they’d think I was bullying you."
I paid no attention to him. Chang'an was crying hard, pouting his lips in my embrace.
This child was different from others; he was particularly clever even at a young age. He had grown quickly since birth.
Perhaps he felt wronged from not seeing me for so long, which was why he kept crying.
Hearing Mu Xuanche's voice as he entered, I showed Chang'an to him.
"What’s wrong with this child? Why won’t he stop crying?"
