Swish, swish, swish.
The sound of swords being drawn filled the air, but I paid no attention to it. My gaze was fixed on Mu Xuanche. Was he really going to marry someone else?
"Sister, let's go quickly. We won't make it if we don't hurry," Yue tugged at me desperately from behind, but I remained frozen as if I hadn't heard her.
Seeing my state, Jin Ping's face turned pale with anger. She shouted at the guards, "Archers! Where are the archers? Someone shoot her dead!"
A line of archers stood before me, but all I could see was Mu Xuanche. He had grabbed Jin Ping and seemed to be saying something to her.
Jin Ping's fury gradually subsided, and the archers hesitated, not daring to move without her final command.
Mu Xuanche looked around and ordered, "Someone take Sister Gu away."
Those words chilled my heart. How could he treat me like this?
Just as a guard reached for my arm, I shook him off with all my strength and dashed toward Mu Xuanche. I had to take him away.
He couldn't just marry Jin Ping; I absolutely wouldn't allow it.
My actions infuriated Jin Ping. Without hesitation, she commanded the archers to fire at me.
Swish, swish.
An arrow struck my leg, causing me to wince in pain. I paused for a moment but then continued to push forward.
Another batch of archers stepped up, and an arrow aimed straight for my head. If that arrow hit me, there would be no chance of survival.
I was momentarily stunned, unsure whether to stop or keep charging ahead.
As the silver arrowhead drew closer, my mind went blank, unable to think clearly.
Just as the Sword approached my forehead, I resignedly closed my eyes.
Suddenly, I was yanked by someone and found myself in a firm embrace.
I opened my eyes and turned around to see it was Mu Xuanche.
Wasn't he in front of me? How did he suddenly appear behind me?
I glared at him, feeling aggrieved, and pouted, "Why did you marry someone else?"
"Have you lost your mind?"
A fierce flick to my head brought me back to reality.
Oh right, the surroundings had changed; I wasn't in ancient times anymore.
I was back in the tomb, and Mu Xuanche wasn't wearing a red wedding outfit but his usual black silk shirt.
"I was just dreaming? How could I fall asleep in the tomb?" I asked in confusion.
He shot me a glare. "Lingyunzi warned you about the danger, yet you still didn't leave. You fell for their enchantment and almost lost your life."
It was then that I noticed the arrows stuck in the ground. If it weren't for Mu Xuanche, I would have become one of the souls beneath those arrows.
But the dream felt so real, not fake at all, as if I had truly experienced it.
Mu Xuanche seemed to want to avoid my question, but I held onto him. "Tell me, did you ever marry Jin Ping? Answer me honestly."
He glanced at me with a cold gaze, and the atmosphere around us grew tense.
As my heart slowly sank, he finally spoke. "No."
Those two words made me feel as if I could soar with joy. I grabbed his hand and acted like a girl being spoiled. "That's good."
He turned his hand over and gently stroked my face, the calluses on his hand brushing against my skin.
I absolutely loved this feeling, leaning into his embrace and saying, "Mu Xuanche, I just dreamed of you touching me like this."
"Yan Xi, have you ever considered that maybe this isn't a dream?"
His question left me somewhat bewildered. "What do you mean?"
"Never mind, let's go see how the others are doing."
Right, I had been so focused on talking to Mu Xuanche that I completely forgot about Mingyue and the others. I wondered if they had encountered any danger. Please let them be safe.
Inside the tomb, there was no sign of the three of them. Mu Xuanche and I could only search for them one by one.
"Do you know where they are?" I asked him.
"I know where Shangguan Mingyue and the big guy are, but as for He Zhi Yong, I'm not too sure. I can't read him well."
I couldn't shake the feeling that Mu Xuanche's expression changed when he mentioned He Zhi Yong; something felt off.
He led me to the place where we had rescued Mingyue last time. Sure enough, Mingyue was trapped in a pit by those large snakes.
Fortunately, it seemed those snakes weren't interested in lifeless things; she was just abandoned to the side and looked like she hadn't woken up yet.
I initially wanted to go down and pull her up, but Mu Xuanche stopped me.
"It's dangerous; I'll handle it."
This man was so domineering, but at that moment, his assertiveness was particularly appealing.
I was relieved that what had happened earlier was just a dream. If it were reality, I might have really been driven to despair.
After bringing Mingyue over and placing her in front of me, I took it upon myself to wake her up.
I pinched her acupoint a few times, and she slowly began to stir, patting her head as she came to.
"Yan Xi, how did I end up here?"
I explained to her what had happened with Mu Xuanche, and her expression shifted to one of realization. "No wonder I kept dreaming about being eaten by a snake. How disgusting! I didn't expect someone to have tampered with the bones of the corpse."
"Alright, let's go find the big guy."
When we found the big guy, he wasn't as fortunate as Mingyue. He was pinned under a large rock, blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.
Fortunately, we arrived just in time; if another heavy stone had fallen on him, no matter how strong he was, he wouldn't have been able to withstand such an impact. His life would have been in jeopardy.
After rescuing him, I decided to let Mingyue take him out for treatment. His injuries were too severe; he needed medical attention immediately.
Mu Xuanche and I stayed behind to search for He Zhiyong.
He had also fainted earlier, and it was hard to tell what might happen next. With only one eye left, his vision was impaired, making it even more dangerous for him.
Once Mingyue left, I turned to Mu Xuanche and asked if he had any ideas.
He flicked my forehead. "Aren't you good at divination? Why not calculate it yourself?"
Oh right, with him by my side, I completely forgot about my own abilities.
After realizing this, I immediately squatted down to set up a divination array and deduced He Zhiyong's approximate location.
Fortunately, I had previously asked He Zhiyong for his birth date when we discussed setting up the array. Having that information made the divination more effective.
Before long, I figured out the general direction and stood up to tell Mu Xuanche, "Alright, let's go."
"Wife, you're quite fast these days," he remarked.
She glanced at him, a proud expression on her face. "You've already revived, so if I don't improve, wouldn't that be unworthy of you?"
Mu Xuanche's eyes sparkled with warmth as he reached out, lightly brushing his fingertips against my delicate chin. "Not bad, your awareness is quite high."
With his hand on my wrist, he smiled and walked ahead.
The display indicated that He Zhi Yong was located in the northwest. As long as we headed in that direction, we would find him.
If he had come here on his own, I would believe it; after all, his skills were indeed that impressive.
However, the fact that someone brought him here felt strange to me.
In this enclosed space, there was only a limited amount of air, making it feel somewhat suffocating.
Surrounded by walls, how did he end up here?
Looking at the footprints on the ground, they were somewhat chaotic, making it impossible to determine the number of people or their positions. It looked as if someone had deliberately arranged them that way.
I leaned against the wall and knocked on it, discovering that three of the walls were solid; there was no way through.
Yet my deductions pointed to this place. Was there something wrong in between? Otherwise, why would it be like this?
I looked at Mu Xuanche in confusion. "I calculated that it should be here. Why isn't there anything?"
He sneered. "It's just an illusion technique; let your husband reveal it for you."
He walked over to the edge of the wall and took out Shiro, drawing a line on the surface. To my astonishment, blood began to flow down from what appeared to be solid earth walls.
I was dumbfounded; I had clearly confirmed that these were real walls just moments ago.
How did Mu Xuanche manage to make them bleed after inserting Shiro?
As Mu Xuanche cut a large gash into the wall with Shiro, a strong stench of decay immediately wafted out from inside.
The stench was overwhelming, making me gag. I clenched my fists, forcing myself to lean closer to take a look.
It turned out that the walls were lined with the decaying flesh of various corpses. The flesh, stripped clean of bones, was packed tightly within the walls, with even the blood contained inside.
I couldn't see He Zhi Yong's figure on this wall, so Mu Xuanche moved to the second wall. Just like before, it was filled with rotting flesh and blood.
I saw He Zhi Yong's body entangled within this putrid mass. His entire body was soaked in polluted blood, utterly revolting.
