As I turned to look in the direction of Mingyue, I saw Asura gripping her throat, her life hanging by a thread.
There was still a chance to kill Jin Ping, but Mingyue only had one life.
I decisively charged at Asura, firing two shots that struck his hand, forcing him to release Mingyue.
Enraged by my attack, Asura rushed at me and landed a punch in my stomach.
I had no time to dodge, and the blow hit me squarely in the abdomen.
"Ah!"
I was sent flying and crashed to the ground.
Clutching my stomach, I struggled to rise, but the intense pain made it impossible. I could only curl up on my side.
Mingyue rushed over and knelt beside me, while the furious man and He Zhiyong stood guard around us.
"Yan Xi, are you okay?"
I opened my eyes with great difficulty to look at Mingyue, my vision blurring.
Asura's punch had nearly taken my life.
"Mingyue, I'm fine."
"Ah..."
Mingyue suddenly screamed, her voice filled with despair.
The burly man, unaware of the situation, shouted, "What happened? What's going on?"
"There's blood! Yan Xi is bleeding from the waist down!"
The man went wild, yelling, "Damn it, you little bastards! Grandpa will fight you to the end!"
He fired his gun wildly, and those around him, sensing the danger, hesitated to approach.
I struggled to lower my head and saw that blood was indeed trickling down Yan Xi's thigh.
I reached out and pulled Mingyue closer. "No matter what, we have to save the child."
With tears in her eyes, she nodded at me and stood up, shouting frantically, "Spirit Sect Leader, come out! Show yourself!"
Peering through the crowd on the ground, I caught a glimpse of Jin Ping's smug smile. She had wished for my demise for a long time; now that her wish was coming true, how could she not be delighted?
A sharp pain surged through my abdomen again. I felt as if the child was slowly slipping away. I pressed my hands against my belly, praying that he would not abandon me.
"I can't hold on much longer!" I cried out.
The burly man crouched down and used his robe as a makeshift strap to carry me on his back.
"Yan Xi, don't worry. Even if it costs me my life, I will get you out of here. I won't let anything happen to you."
In the midst of the chaos, He Zhi Yong had already been shot.
Shangguan Mingyue was not faring any better, covered in blood and looking utterly disheveled.
It was all my fault; everyone was hurt because of me. Tears blurred my vision.
"Gu Yanxi, today is your day of reckoning," Jin Ping sneered as he waved his hand.
The people in the front row collectively opened fire, while I stood in front, forming a wall of three bodies that shielded me completely.
Each bullet that struck flesh sounded like a knife stabbing deep into my heart.
I vowed that as long as I was alive, I would never coexist with Jin Ping.
He Zhi Yong was hit in the leg and collapsed to the ground, kneeling.
Mingyue had been shot in the arm and could no longer hold her gun.
The big man had countless bullet holes in his body, yet he still stood firm because if he fell, I would surely follow.
Seeing everyone in such a state, I could no longer hold back. I shouted to them, "Go! Please, just leave me behind!"
"Go!"
The last voice had choked to silence, watching them one by one with hearts like knives.
Mingyue held back her pain and forced a smile at me, saying, "Yan Xi, don't worry, we will protect you as we get out."
Although they were all injured, their gazes towards me were so resolute.
"Okay," I could barely make a sound.
Members of the Second Gunner Squad approached. Mingyue picked up her gun with her left hand, while He Zhi Yong supported her to stand.
The three of them stood in front of me like death's sentinels. What merit did I have to deserve such friends?
With my last breath, I shouted at Jin Ping, "Jin Ping, if you want to kill someone, kill me. They have no enmity with you; let them go. Do whatever you want with me, just let them go."
I nearly screamed in desperation, but Jin Ping remained unmoved.
"Fire."
Jin Ping coldly commanded those two words.
I closed my eyes, unable to bear the sight of the bloody scene, yet the gunfire did not come for a long time.
Finally, I heard a booming voice beside me, "Master, you have arrived."
I opened my eyes and saw that familiar face. I couldn't help but smile faintly at him.
He looked somewhat disheveled, and I couldn't tell if he had just come from a fierce battle.
All the people in front of him had been taken down, leaving only him, Jin Ping, Ashura, and that large serpent.
Realizing the danger, Jin Ping turned to flee.
The Island Master did not pursue her but came towards us instead.
"Let's go first," he said.
I couldn't remember how I got out of there. After the Island Master took me from the burly man, I fell into a deep sleep.
When I woke up again, I was already on the boat, with the Island Master beside me, his expression dark and frightening, his brow furrowed tightly as he held my hand.
A sharp pain in my abdomen made me cry out softly.
"How are you?"
Hearing such concern in the Island Master's voice was rare. I lowered my voice and pleaded with him, "Please save my child. I'll do anything you ask."
He nodded and shouted towards the deck, "Go faster!"
"Yan Xi, don't worry. Once we reach shore, everything will be fine," he reassured me.
For the first time, he called me Yan Xi.
For the first time, he spoke to me so much.
He had always been able to give me a sense of security, so I was willing to do anything for him. I nodded slightly.
A warm current slid down my body, and I could feel it.
I was already completely wet below, the sticky metallic scent was overwhelming.
I was so nervous that I could hardly breathe, gripping his hand tightly.
"Save him, please save him..."
I was too weak to hold my eyelids up any longer, and I closed my eyes again.
In the moment before darkness enveloped me, I heard the voice of the Island Master.
He was pleading with me,
Pleading for me to stay alive.
In the darkness, I saw a lovely baby boy smiling at me, calling me "Mommy."
I wanted to hold him, but suddenly he started crying,
And then he vanished into the darkness. My heart twisted painfully, making it hard to breathe.
The pain forced me to open my eyes.
Light flooded into my vision, and I saw a familiar face.
It was him.
Bai Qiling, holding a scalpel, stood over me, seemingly unsure of what to do.
Thoughts of Mu Xuanche and the blood on my heart rushed back to me.
As a mother, an instinctive strength surged within me, and I pushed him away with all my might, shouting, "Get away! Get away from me! Don't touch my child, or I'll kill you!"
"I'll kill you!"
Bai Qiling was taken aback by my state, standing frozen in place as he watched me.
From the darkness behind him, someone slowly approached—it was the Island Master. He wrapped his arms around me.
His hands tightened around me as he whispered in my ear, "Yan Xi, please stop this. Let him treat you."
I pushed him away and glared at him fiercely.
Then, without a moment's hesitation, I raised my hand and slapped him across the face.
"Smack!"
The crisp voice pierced my heart like a knife.
"Mu Xuanche, how much longer are you going to deceive me?"
As the words left my mouth, tears fell uncontrollably.
He paused for a moment, then lunged forward, trying to embrace me.
I struggled and pushed him away, grabbing the scalpel that Bai Qiling had left aside.
Without a hint of hesitation, without any internal conflict, I plunged the scalpel into his shoulder.
I shoved him away forcefully. "Mu Xuanche, this stab clears our debts. Get lost and don’t touch my child. Otherwise, I’ll fight you to the end. Just go!"
I let the blade remain embedded in him as dark blood flowed down. He didn’t even glance at it.
Instead, he pulled me into his arms again, this time holding me tighter than before, burying his head in my shoulder.
"How does this clear our debts? Tell me how it clears our debts."
His voice was surprisingly choked and trembling.
I pulled the scalpel out of his shoulder and pressed him. "If you don’t let go of me, this blade will go straight into your forehead."
"Go ahead and stab," he replied without a hint of hesitation.
Remembering the child in my womb, I gripped the knife tightly in my hand and pressed it against his forehead.
His hands still firmly restrained me, showing no sign of loosening their grip.
I felt powerless; I couldn't bring myself to take his life.
With a twist of the blade, I placed the knife against my own neck.
"Get away from me, or I'll commit suicide," I threatened.
He was taken aback, slightly loosening his hold on me. A rare flicker of emotion crossed his face, revealing some tension. "Yan Xi, put down the knife."
I screamed desperately, "Let me go!"
