Everyone knew that the door would eventually break; the disparity in strength between the two sides was too great.
"Is there any other way out of here?" I asked.
He shook his head helplessly. The Island Master had designed this cell to be impenetrable, leaving no escape route.
Suddenly, He Zhi Yong rushed towards me, grabbing my hand.
Seeing this, the big man charged after us like a startled hen. "What are you doing?"
Bang, bang, bang, bang...
A series of gunshots rang out, followed by a powerful kick against the door.
People surged in from outside, led by Shangguan Zili.
The moment she saw me, her face lit up with a smile.
"Hahaha, Gu Yanxi! I didn't expect to see you here. Are you happy to see me?"
I let out a cold laugh and stepped forward. "I'm especially happy to see that you're still alive."
She stared at me in silence for a moment before raising her hand behind her. A man stepped forward and handed her a gun.
The dark muzzle was pointed at me as she smiled triumphantly.
I had never been threatened with a gun before, and it made me feel uneasy.
Her hand rested on the trigger, her eyes filled with amusement.
"Gu Yanxi, you should die," she said.
In the moment she pulled the trigger, the gun suddenly tilted, and the bullet struck the wall beside me, barely grazing my cheek. My heart stopped for that brief instant.
She was stunned as well, clearly not expecting the gun to misfire at such close range.
I glanced at He Zhi Yong beside me; he was the only one present who could intervene.
Earlier, he had been shaking my hand vigorously, which I found strange. I hadn’t realized he knew about the Summoning Bracelet on my wrist and had summoned a ghost servant without permission.
A dark shadow loomed next to Shangguan Zili, featureless and entirely black, only a vague human outline discernible.
"What have you brought here?" I asked He Zhi Yong beside me.
"I don’t know either. This Summoning Bracelet can summon the most powerful ghost within a ten-mile radius. I have no idea what it is," he replied.
"Asura, why are you here?"
The words came from Shangguan Zili; she seemed to recognize the shadow.
"I can't believe we summoned such a huge monster. We're saved now,"
Not understanding what He Zhi Yong meant, I asked, "Who is this Asura?"
"This Asura is a servant of the Spirit Cult Leader, a Great Ghost raised in captivity. Now that we've summoned him with the Summoning Bracelet, he has to obey your commands unless his master personally intervenes."
Understanding He Zhi Yong's meaning, I tried to give the Asura an order to disarm Shangguan Zili.
The Asura immediately sprang into action, moving so quickly that I could barely see.
In an instant, Shangguan Zili's gun was back in the Asura's hands.
I then commanded the Asura to hand the gun to me. He walked over confidently and passed the gun to me.
Shangguan Zili was nearly going crazy; she never expected the Asura would rebel and help us.
"Asura, are you insane? How dare you betray the master!"
The Asura moved forward and grabbed Shangguan Zili by the neck.
In my mind, I commanded the Asura again, and he immediately approached Shangguan Zili.
He reached out and seized her neck, then turned to look at us.
Realizing something was off with the Asura, Shangguan Zili shouted to those around her, "Don't worry about me! Hurry up and shoot! Kill them all!"
Under the command of Shangguan Zili, those people raised their guns and aimed at us.
"Quickly, Ashura, stop them! Make them put down their weapons!" I shouted anxiously in my heart, giving orders to Ashura.
But it was still too late.
"Bang, bang, bang..."
A series of gunshots rang out. Although Ashura reacted in time to stop them, some bullets still flew our way. The big man shielded me with his broad body and took two shots.
What surprised me the most was that He Zhi Yong rushed over immediately and stood in front of me, taking a bullet for me.
Seeing both of them getting hit for my sake made my eyes turn red with anger.
I furiously ordered Ashura, "Kill them! Eliminate them all!"
As Ashura was about to strike down Shangguan Zili, I stopped him.
I didn't want to save her; I had no intention of being merciful anymore.
She had tried to take my life time and again, and I could no longer spare her.
If one day I fell into her hands, I would surely meet a fate worse than death.
I picked up the gun that Ashura had just handed me and aimed it at Shangguan Zili's head.
All the people around her had been eliminated by Ashura; she was now a lone commander without any power.
"Gu Yanxi, what do you want? Are you planning to kill me? Look at my face; I am the sister of your good friend, Shangguan Mingyue. Can you really bring yourself to do it?"
Hearing Mingyue's name made me pause.
Right, I couldn't kill her.
No matter what, she was Mingyue's sister. How could I harm her? If Mingyue found out, she would hate me forever.
My finger relaxed on the trigger.
I saw the smile in Shangguan Zili's eyes; I knew she was gloating, but I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger.
Suddenly, a sharp pain shot through my hand.
"Bang!"
The sound of the gunshot shattered the silence, and a blood-red flower blossomed in the center of Shangguan Zili's forehead.
She widened her eyes, a look of disbelief on her face, before slowly collapsing to the ground.
I was stunned; it was my gun that had killed her.
But I had clearly released my grip—why did I go back?
Staring at the finger that was still on the trigger, I noticed another hand resting on top of mine.
I turned my head to look behind me.
That terrifying mask appeared before me; it was the Island Master.
He had come back. Just as I was about to withdraw my hand, he pressed down on mine and pulled the trigger.
Shangguan Zili was dead, and everyone from the Cult of Spirits was gone.
Ashura had left, and the Island Master had returned.
The deep gaze from the mask glared at me for a moment before he uttered a single phrase:
"Useless."
He turned and walked over to the burly man. My mind was still blank, struggling to comprehend that I had just taken a life.
I had actually killed someone, and it was Shangguan Zili.
I stared blankly at Island Master, unable to speak or think about what he was about to do next.
I watched as he helped the big man sit on a nearby chair and removed his clothing.
There were gunshot wounds on his arm and abdomen.
"Endure it," he said, his thin lips forming the words directed at the big man.
The big man nodded. Island Master quickly inserted his fingers into the wound and extracted the bullet from his arm.
He repeated the process, swiftly removing all the bullets from the big man's body.
This method was incredibly brutal. I silently swallowed hard as I observed He Zhi Yong beside me.
When Island Master turned to look at him, He Zhi Yong spoke up voluntarily, "I'll take care of my own wounds."
"Hmph," Island Master scoffed before walking toward me.
As someone who had never killed before, I found myself frozen in place, unable to move. Watching Island Master approach, I desperately wanted to flee, but my legs wouldn't cooperate.
He stood frozen in front of me, his pitch-black eyes particularly deep, making my breathing quicken.
Suddenly, he raised his hand.
In an instant, I felt as if I might faint from the tension.
To my surprise, he merely placed his hand over my eyes, gently closing my eyelids.
Darkness enveloped me suddenly, and my mind went blank.
When I woke up again, my head felt like it was about to explode.
I opened my eyes and looked up at the gray-black ceiling, which was already bright.
Last night...
Right, last night I killed someone.
Thinking of Shangguan Zili, I jolted upright, staring blankly ahead.
This was a wooden cabin. The last person I saw last night was the Island Master; he had knocked me out, which is why I ended up back here.
Where is everyone?
To figure things out, I rolled out of bed and went outside to search around.
I searched the entire yard but did not see the big man's figure.
I then ran to the dungeon; He Zhi Yong's cell was already locked.
I shouted a couple of times towards the inside, "Uncle He, are you there?"
There was no response, and I felt a bit anxious.
