Last time I had a setback, Bai Qiling was already feeling a bit apprehensive and remained silent.
No one had deciphered the mystery behind this door; who would have thought that the Tomb would be constructed like a courtyard?
Knowing it was the Tomb of the Qin Dynasty, I had even done my homework before coming down, but it turned out to be of no use at all.
Mu Xuanche stepped forward. Unlike Bai Qiling, who tried to push open the wooden door with his hands, he stood at a distance, focused his energy, and used his palm strength to push the door open.
If something were to fall from above at that moment, I would think it normal; however, the complete lack of sound made me feel uneasy.
I walked closer to take a look.
To my surprise, inside was not a room but a large pit, with only a single wooden bridge leading across.
After observing for a moment, I instantly understood the mechanism; this challenge wasn't too difficult to overcome.
Seeing there was no danger, Mingyue was about to rush across the bridge when I quickly stopped her.
"You can't walk on this bridge. Do you know what's in the pit below?"
Mingyue looked at me in confusion and shook her head, appearing bewildered.
This was actually a relatively common trap. The bridge was made up of three wooden planks. The ends of the bridge were safe, but the middle was a movable plank.
As soon as someone stepped onto the middle section, gravity would cause it to drop. No matter how fast someone tried to cross, they wouldn't escape in time.
At the moment of falling, sparks created by friction could ignite the oil below. I imagined that what lay at the bottom of the pit wasn't water but rather oil. If someone fell and created even a small spark, they would be reduced to ashes.
I walked over to Mu Xuanche and asked, "How far can you jump in one step while holding me?"
"How far do you need?" he replied.
"Is five meters okay?"
He nodded, lifting me up, and then moved forward under my direction.
The wooden bridge was about 10 meters long, and Mu Xuanche's stride was roughly 80 centimeters.
When we had taken seven or eight steps, I signaled him to stop.
"Are we starting?" he asked.
I nodded, and he immediately leaped into the air, covering at least seven or eight meters.
We successfully passed this challenge. Afterward, Mu Xuanche went back to bring Shangguan Mingyue over.
Jin Ping and Bai Qiling were of no concern since they were souls and had no weight.
Once we crossed the bridge, the place began to resemble a tomb.
After Bai Qiling arrived, he set up a formation on the ground to calculate the location of the coffin.
During the time he was deducing, Shangguan Mingyue approached quietly when no one was paying attention.
"Yan Xi, why do I feel like you have a special understanding of the mechanisms inside the tomb?"
Since she asked, I had no intention of hiding it from her. "Mingyue, do you believe that I know every mechanism in here?"
"I believe you, but it feels a bit strange," she replied.
"Don't ask so many questions; just listen to me," I said, glancing over at Jin Ping. She immediately understood and closed her mouth.
Honestly, when I first entered, I had no idea. It wasn't until I navigated through several traps that I realized the layout of this tomb was identical to what was recorded in the latter half of that book. However, I didn't dare to speak up; it just felt wrong to do so.
The layout of this tomb should be in the shape of a character "甲," with only one path leading to the burial chamber. During the Qin State period, only meritorious ministers and nobles were entitled to such a grand tomb.
Bai Qiling's calculations indicated that the burial chamber was located on the southeast side.
He pointed at the wall and told us, "The coffin chamber is right behind this wall."
However, this wall appeared to be solid. Unless we found the mechanism's button, there was no other way through.
I reached out and pressed my hand against the wall, gently feeling for a circular recess that should serve as the mechanism's activation key.
When I pressed it, the stone door opened with a rumble.
Looking at everyone, I made a decision. "Five of us must enter, but one person has to stay behind; otherwise, no one will be able to come back out."
Only the dead could enter the coffin chamber; once inside, there would be no way out. Thus, this mechanism was designed to open outward. Since this tomb was shaped like a character "甲," there was only one way in.
The person who should stay behind was Jin Ping, but I couldn't leave her alone; what if she had some trick up her sleeve? The more dangerous things were, the more they should be kept in plain sight.
In the end, Mu Xuanche decided that Bai Qiling would stay outside due to concerns about potential dangers lurking outside.
"Bright Moon, you should stay here. You can keep an eye on Bai Qiling. It's too dangerous inside, and Mu Xuanche can't protect both of us alone."
She understood my meaning and realized that we were both burdens in the team at the moment. I was familiar with the traps inside, so I had to go in.
She decided to stay, and Bai Qiling willingly agreed as well.
The two of them guarded the entrance while the three of us entered the secret chamber.
Without Bright Moon as our lookout, I not only had to deal with the traps but also had to keep a constant watch on Jin Ping's movements.
Who knows what tricks this woman might be plotting against me? I couldn't afford to be caught off guard.
After passing through the stone door, we found ourselves in a long passageway that could only accommodate one person at a time.
Feeling something ahead, I shone Mu Xuanche's flashlight forward.
I pulled him along and said, "Look."
Lying on the ground ahead were several skeletons. They had no weapons on them, and their bones appeared a grayish-black color, suggesting they had died from poisoning.
Noticing the clothing of the person at the back, it resembled traditional attire worn by the Miao people. Could this be Wang Kun's father?
"It should be him," I said.
Mu Xuanche recognized it too and confirmed my guess. He pointed at something beside the corpse; there was a chicken coop next to it, now containing only a pile of feathers.
It seemed that the rooster I had wasn't meant for the stage yet; otherwise, it wouldn't have died in the coop.
Although I knew what the mechanism was, I had no way to decipher it and could only consult Mu Xuanche.
“How can we get across without touching the walls on either side or the ground?”
He raised an eyebrow, his handsome face radiating confidence.
“Give me your Bronze Sword; I'll give it a try.”
When we entered, Mingyue had lent me the Bronze Sword out of concern for potential dangers inside, while I handed Shiro to Mu Xuanche.
With a swift leap, Mu Xuanche drove the Bronze Sword firmly into the stone above us.
The Bronze Sword embedded itself with such force; it was incredible how much strength he must have used to achieve that.
He shook it slightly to ensure it was secure before jumping down and squatting in front of me.
I understood his intention and obediently climbed onto his back, wrapping my arms tightly around him to free his hands.
Mu Xuanche alternated inserting Shiro and the Bronze Sword into the stone above as leverage, moving step by step across the gap.
Jin Ping didn’t require our concern; without a physical form, she was immune to threats.
After passing through the third checkpoint, a room full of Burial Goods lay before us.
Oh my goodness, these were all artifacts from the Qin Dynasty! Just taking one or two pieces to sell would be worth a fortune!
In the center of the tomb chamber stood a pitch-black coffin, particularly eye-catching.
“Mu Xuanche, what is it that you are looking for? Come out and I’ll help you find it,”
“A black Black Jade Pearl,”
After he finished speaking to me, he walked alone towards the coffin.
Just as he was about to step onto the steps of the coffin, I shouted anxiously, “Hurry up and stop! You can’t go!”
He paused and turned to look at me, seemingly not understanding my meaning.
I pointed at the chicken in my hand; this guy hadn’t had his turn yet.
He walked back to my side, and I released the chicken.
The creature first glanced back at us, causing Jin Ping to take a few steps back in fright.
I didn’t expect this thing to be so domineering. I picked it up and threw it onto the stone steps.
Suddenly, a rustling sound echoed around us.
The sound of something scratching with claws made my scalp tingle.
Mu Xuanche pulled me back repeatedly as we saw black-green centipedes emerging from the cracks in the stone steps.
There were many of them, and they were large.
The Big Rooster from Wang Kun’s place, which had been listless, instantly regained its spirit upon seeing the centipedes, its two eyeballs shining brightly.
It quickly pecked its head down to the ground, targeting the centipedes.
One by one, at an astonishing speed,
This fellow didn't eat the centipedes; instead, it pecked them in half with its beak.
The number of centipedes kept increasing, surrounding Big Rooster completely.
Just as I was worried that this guy couldn't hold on any longer, it suddenly threw its head back and let out a long crow. Shaking its body, all the centipedes were frightened and burrowed into the cracks, disappearing in an instant.
