Jin Ping wore a confident expression that left me somewhat perplexed, unsure of what trick she was playing. Could it be that she really thought she could kill me in this room? I didn't believe it.
"You guessed right, I wouldn't dare to kill you because I don't want to hurt Xuan Wang," she suddenly said, catching me off guard.
Such a straightforward admission was clearly not Jin Ping's style. I looked at her in confusion, curious about what she would reveal next.
Jin Ping smirked, her enchanting smile both strange and alluring. "Did you really think Xuan Wang married you because he likes you?"
I knew this woman wouldn’t stop; it was clear the show had begun. I decided to remain silent and let her perform.
She reached out, lifting my chin with her finger, her smile wickedly beautiful as her voice dripped with disdain. "It's for the child in your belly."
"How do you know I'm pregnant?"
This was something only Bai Qiling, Mu Xuanche, and I were aware of; even Shangguan Mingyue had not been informed yet. We had kept it under wraps so well—how could she possibly know?
"Isn't it Xuan Wang who told me?"
Seeing her smug expression made me want to tear her face apart just to wipe that arrogance off.
"Don't you want to know why Xuan Wang married you?" she asked.
I didn't trust that I would hear anything good from her, so I flatly refused.
"I don't want to know. I'm leaving."
She grabbed me and pointed at my belly with a look of disdain.
"You’re relying on that beast inside you. If it weren't for him, how could Xuan Wang possibly want you?"
I could tolerate her insults directed at me, but when she dared to insult my unborn child, that was something I couldn't stand.
"Wretch, who are you calling a beast?"
She glared at me. "Who are you calling a Wretch?"
I couldn't be bothered to argue with her. She insulted my son and still acted so arrogant; if I let her walk away unscathed today, I might as well take her surname.
Taking advantage of her moment of unpreparedness, I lunged at her with Shiro, aiming for her.
Caught off guard, she barely managed to dodge, but I still managed to stab her in the shoulder.
She raised her left hand and struck at me, the force overwhelming. I was knocked to the ground.
A wave of nausea hit me as blood spewed from my mouth, splattering onto the ground in a bright red pool.
Jin Ping was furious and charged at me again.
I lay still on the ground, waiting for Jin Ping to approach before slapping the Spirit Binding Talisman onto her forehead from behind my back.
What my master taught me proved useful; taking advantage of Jin Ping being immobilized, I stabbed at her again with Shiro.
I didn't dare to kill her, but teaching her a lesson was definitely necessary.
She couldn't move, but she could make a sound. "Gu Yanxi, how dare you treat me like this? Your time is up."
I held Shiro as a threat against her. "If you keep talking nonsense, I'll kill you. Do you believe me?"
"Gu Yanxi, you're truly pathetic. I laugh at your misery."
I had no idea what Jin Ping was up to again, and I couldn't be bothered to deal with her. I just wanted to get out of this room.
"Gu Yanxi, you reproductive tool, how sad you are."
I admitted that Jin Ping had successfully angered me; she kept shouting behind me.
Unable to hold back any longer, I turned around and slapped her.
"Shut up, Wretch. What right do you have to criticize the child in my womb?"
"The child won't survive. I pity you instead. You should be grateful to me. Do you know why Xuan Wang wants this child? All he wants is the blood from its heart, you foolish woman."
"Only the heart's blood can successfully heal Xuan Wang's back injury. He hasn't told you this, has he? Hahaha, you're truly ridiculous."
Jin Ping's words slowly chilled my heart. There was no way they could be true; they had to be false.
I turned to find an exit, ready to leave this place.
I didn't want to continue listening to this woman's absurd claims for fear of being influenced.
But this cursed place was shrouded in darkness; there was no way out.
Time was running out. If I delayed any longer, the talisman would lose its effectiveness. I was sweating with anxiety.
If I waited for this woman to move, after I had stabbed her twice, she would definitely not let me off the hook.
"Gu Yanxi, you don't need to struggle anymore. You can't escape."
To my surprise, she broke free from the talisman’s grip much faster than I had anticipated, appearing right behind me.
With a swift motion of her long sleeves, she wrapped them around my neck, choking me tightly.
I tried to use the Devouring Blade to cut through her sleeves, but she noticed and swung her other sleeve at me, trapping my left hand firmly.
"Gu Yanxi, your time is up. The child inside you has already taken shape. As long as I kill you and open your belly, extracting the child's heart will be just as effective."
Seeing her hand reaching for my abdomen, I knew I couldn't just sit back and wait for death.
Struggling, I managed to reach for the Bone Whistle around my neck. While she was focused on my belly, I blew into it.
The clear sound echoed throughout the dark space.
Jin Ping froze for a moment, then looked up and slapped me hard.
"Gu Yanxi, I didn't expect you to have this trick up your sleeve."
"Bah!"
I spat blood onto Jin Ping's face. This vile woman needed to be dealt with properly.
She slapped my stomach, seemingly intent on taking my life.
How could I let her succeed? I rolled over and took the hit on my back instead.
A fiery pain shot through me, and I collapsed weakly onto the ground.
Just when I thought I was about to faint from the pain, the darkness suddenly vanished, and the pitch-black space transformed back into my room.
Mu Xuanche stood in front of me, along with Bai Qiling and Mingyue; they had all come.
Mingyue rushed over and picked me up, looking at me with deep concern. "What happened?"
"She wanted my life," I weakly revealed Jin Ping's intentions.
Instantly, Shangguan Mingyue's expression turned icy as she handed me over to Mu Xuanche.
"You vile woman, how dare you lay a hand on her? I'll take your life!"
After cursing fiercely, Shangguan Mingyue charged at Jin Ping with the Bronze Sword raised high.
The two of them became entangled in a fierce struggle, and with Bai Qiling occasionally intervening to help, it was hard to determine who had the upper hand.
I lay in Mu Xuanche's arms, staring at his face.
His handsome, devilish features were marred by a frown, his brows knitted tightly together, giving him a heavy aura. Yet he did not intervene.
Even Mingyue had rushed over to avenge me, but he remained indifferent, not even uttering a word of concern.
I couldn't accept it, tears welling in my eyes as I looked at him. "She wants my life."
He merely nodded slightly, reaching out to wipe away the tears from the corners of my eyes. "She won't."
I couldn't fathom that my husband, Mu Xuanche, could have such an attitude. I screamed in despair, "How can you say she won't? Look at what she's done to me already!"
For the first time, when Jin Ping hit me in the cellar, Mu Xuanche didn't teach her a lesson.
This was the second time Jin Ping treated me this way, nearly taking my life, and still Mu Xuanche did nothing.
"What do you think I am to you?"
"I will give you an explanation," he replied coldly, causing my heart to chill.
Mu Xuanche couldn't possibly not love me. He had done so much for me; how could he not love me?
He gently helped me onto the bed and walked over to pull Jin Ping, who was restrained by Shangguan Mingyue.
With three swift strikes to Jin Ping's chest, she instantly fell unconscious.
Bai Qiling dragged Jin Ping out, and Mingyue followed suit.
In the room, it was just me and Mu Xuanche left. Was this how it would end?
Although Mu Xuanche had already made his move, I couldn't feel happy about it.
I could vaguely sense that his relationship with Jin Ping was definitely not ordinary.
Even if Bai Qiling had attacked me, Mu Xuanche would have acted without hesitation to teach him a lesson.
However, just now, the feeling I got from Mu Xuanche was that he was forced by me to take action against Jin Ping.
He slowly approached me, lifting my shirt to check the injuries on my back,
but I pushed him away forcefully. "Get lost."
That cold word halted his movements.
