The people approached me relentlessly, each wielding a weapon. They were strong men, while I was just a woman holding a knife that posed no threat to anyone. The disparity in strength was evident; I had no chance of winning.
Fueled by my disdain for Shangguan Zili, I couldn't let her have it easy. I lunged at the nearest man, plunging the knife into him with force. Blood sprayed out, and those around me froze in shock. No one expected a woman to be so fierce and ruthless.
They were momentarily taken aback until Shangguan Zili shouted again, prompting them to react and rush toward me. In that instant, I seized the opportunity and dashed toward the exit.
But the damned door was still shut; I couldn't open it. The men behind me caught up, and one grabbed my clothing, dragging me backward. I clung tightly to the horizontal bar on the door, but I was no match for their combined strength and was pulled back.
Just as those men raised their clubs to strike me, the main door swung open, and three figures strode in confidently. The man holding onto me met Mu Xuanche's gaze and immediately released his grip.
With the sudden release, I quickly moved to their side, grabbing Shangguan Mingyue's hand and exchanging a knowing glance. We understood each other perfectly.
Then I turned my attention to Mu Xuanche, only to find him staring straight ahead without looking at me. It was clear he was still angry and sulking. But I didn’t mind; at least he was willing to come and save me now.
The situation shifted in an instant. Although Shangguan Zili had brought many people, our side was composed of elites. Just Mu Xuanche alone could handle all of them without needing anyone else to intervene.
Bai Qiling, who was unreliable, had already leaned against Mingyue, waiting to watch the show, pushing me closer to Mu Xuanche.
I initially thought that Shangguan Zili intended to flee, as the situation was quite unfavorable for her.
To my surprise, she still wore a smug expression as she looked at Mingyue beside me. "Oh, how dare you confront me? Aren't you afraid your sister will find out?"
I turned to check on Mingyue, whose face alternated between red and white with anger. Even Bai Qiling's expression grew cold.
Mingyue glanced at me as if she had made a decision. Taking a deep breath, she shouted at Shangguan Zili ahead, "From now on, I, Shangguan Mingyue, will no longer help you. Don't think you can use me again."
Shangguan Zili laughed as if she had heard a joke. "Haha, Mingyue, my dear sister, you actually want to sever ties with me? Do you think you're honoring your deceased parents? You..."
I had long suspected the relationship between Shangguan Zili and Mingyue but hadn’t realized that Mingyue was the elder sister. It seemed that Mingyue must have some leverage over Shangguan Zili, which explained why she was being threatened.
Shangguan Mingyue bit her lip in silence, looking somewhat pained.
Seeing her like this made Shangguan Zili even more pleased. In a commanding tone directed at Shangguan Mingyue, she said, "As long as you kill Gu Yanxi, I will forgive you. From now on, you'll still be my good sister. I won't blame you for our parents' deaths anymore."
Shangguan Mingyue looked at me with pain in her eyes as the Bronze Sword she held fell to the ground.
"Useless thing," Shangguan Zili muttered under her breath.
Bai Qiling was furious upon hearing this and stepped forward, ready to strike Shangguan Zili.
But she was stopped by Shangguan Mingyue. "No, it's my fault."
I had intended to comfort Mingyue as well but found my hand being grabbed by someone nearby.
She turned her head to look at him, wanting to know what he meant.
He glanced at me and said coldly, "The matters of the Shangguan Family can be resolved by Bai Qiling."
Fine, since he had spoken up, I wouldn't interfere any further.
"Shangguan Mingyue, you sinner, it's your fault that I am orphaned. You should hurry up and kill this woman for me."
Shangguan Mingyue, constantly cursed by Shangguan Zili, crouched down in pain, holding her head and banging it against the ground.
Bai Qiling stepped forward to pull her up, but she violently shook him off.
Like a madwoman, she silently knelt on the ground, repeatedly knocking her head. "I am the sinner, I am the sinner."
Furious, Bai Qiling let go and shouted at her, "Damn it! Who told you that you are the guilty one? It’s clearly this idiot who is the sister of that Viper who caused your parents' deaths!"
"What do you think you are? How dare you act recklessly here?"
Shangguan Zili glared at Bai Qiling angrily, pointing at him with trembling hands.
"Hah, what do you think you are? Shangguan Zili, you're really good at pretending. No wonder you're so bold; you dared to harm your parents and frame your sister when you were just a teenager."
With cold eyes filled with rage, she glared at him, her face pale with anger and her breathing heavy. "Who exactly are you? Why are you here making a scene?"
"My name is Bai Qiling. Do you remember?"
When Bai Qiling revealed his name, Shangguan Zili froze instantly, her face turning pale with fear as she kept retreating.
On the ground, Shangguan Mingyue slowly stood up, her eyes scanning everyone before finally locking onto her sister. "What on earth is going on?"
The coldness in her voice left Shangguan Zili frozen in place, unable to move.
Then Bai Qiling recounted a past event concerning the Shangguan Family. It turned out that Shangguan Zili had told Shangguan Mingyue she was going to the mountains to seek a master. Her parents, worried about her, had met with an accident and lost their lives, leaving her an orphan who was later taken in by the Cult of Spirits. She had done so much since then.
However, Bai Qiling had always kept an eye on his deceased wife. After her parents' death, he investigated and discovered that it was her sister's selfish desires that had caused their tragic accident.
Bai Qiling had originally planned to find Shangguan Mingyue but decided against it when he learned she was studying at the Xuan Sect.
“No, they’re all lies! Sister, you have to believe me! I am your only family; I would never deceive you!”
With her lies exposed, Shangguan Zili shouted desperately, trying to salvage something from the situation.
Shangguan Mingyue looked at her coldly and said, “Hmph! My sister has long been dead. You are unworthy. I will avenge our parents and deal with you, Wretch.”
Shangguan Mingyue and Shangguan Zili clashed fiercely while Mu Xuanche incapacitated the ten or so people around them.
I had intended to help Mingyue but was stopped by Bai Qiling.
“Let her handle this herself.”
I hadn’t realized how unfortunate Mingyue truly was. No wonder her personality was so wild and carefree; it was simply because she lacked someone to cherish.
Shangguan Zili had already been wounded by me earlier and was no match for Mingyue now.
Before long, she was defeated and held at bay by Mingyue.
Stubbornly, she awaited Shangguan Mingyue’s next move as the Bronze Sword pressed against her neck.
I knew without looking that Mingyue couldn't bring herself to strike, simply because she was her own sister. The two looked exactly alike, and even I could never bring myself to do it.
"Ah!"
A scream escaped from Shangguan Zili's lips as she realized that Mingyue had severed the tendons in her right hand.
Shangguan Zili was thrown to the ground, glaring at Shangguan Mingyue with a face full of malice. The hatred in her eyes was so intense that it was hard to meet her gaze.
"Just go," Shangguan Mingyue said before turning away.
On the ground, Shangguan Zili got up, dragging her bleeding hand as she ran away.
Severing the tendons was a message to us; Mingyue, as an older sister, had acted with good intentions.
"Yan Xi, I'm sorry, I let her go," she stood in front of me, her face pale as a ghost.
I, who had lost so much blood, looked healthier than she did.
I reached out and patted her head. "What nonsense are you talking about?"
The men in black were all taken care of by Mu Xuanche, lying on the ground and moaning in pain. With Shangguan Zili injured and leaving, there was naturally no reason for Chuchen to stay.
He stood up, preparing to leave.
Earlier, he had taken a stab for me in the chest while trying to save me. I had intended to check on him, but when our eyes met with Mu Xuanche's cold gaze, I hesitated.
Chuchen turned to glance at me before disappearing from the crowd.
The Cult of Spirits dispersed, but my parents were still missing. I anxiously tugged at Mu Xuanche's sleeve.
"What should we do? Mom and Dad still haven't been found."
"Come with me," he said, taking my hand and leading me away.
"Where are we going?"
He looked back at me. "To your grandfather's grave to take another look."
Why were we going back to my grandfather's grave? We had just left there, hadn't we?
Could it be that there was really some secret at my grandfather's grave?
