Bai Qiling shouted loudly, her expression tense. My mind hadn’t caught up yet, but my body acted a step ahead.
I lunged at Mu Xuanche, wrapping my arms around him.
He tried to break free, but I clung to his neck, feeling no warmth or heartbeat from him, which somehow brought me a strange sense of comfort.
“Mu Xuanche, stop. Just stop.”
He hesitated for a moment, but then he attempted to push forward again.
I kept whispering in his ear, trying to bring him back. “Mu Xuanche, don’t go. I’m begging you.”
“Mu Xuanche, please stop.”
He shuddered, preparing to shake me off.
I tightened my grip around his neck, feeling a slight pain in my stomach from the violent movements.
Thinking quickly, I decided to scream out loud.
“Ah, my stomach hurts so much!”
My tone was exaggerated to the point that even I thought it sounded fake, but it worked; he halted his movements. I slid down from him.
Just moments ago, his eyes had been filled with rage, completely unlike the usual him—he looked like a demon, utterly and entirely a demon.
I stepped in front of him and took his hand, placing it on my stomach.
Then I climbed into his embrace and said softly, “Please don’t do this. It scares me.”
His entire body went rigid. One of his hands slowly rested on my back, giving it a calming pat.
"Alright, stop clinging. Let's think about how to get out first."
Shangguan Mingyue's voice suddenly broke the silence. I peeked out from Mu Xuanche's embrace and shot her a glare.
With the female spirit that Bai Qiling had just taken care of, we had now eliminated three, leaving only one still at large.
We had to kill the last one if we wanted any chance of escaping.
The last one was definitely hiding in a very concealed spot, making it incredibly difficult to find her.
Bai Qiling looked at me and said, "Set up another formation for me to see."
Not understanding what he meant, I glanced at Mu Xuanche. Seeing him nod, I obediently took out the Glutinous Rice and began to set up the formation on the ground.
It was still as chaotic as before, with nothing discernible.
Bai Qiling gestured for me to stand up, then he crouched down and swept his palm across the formation.
To my astonishment, when his palm opened, the entire layout changed.
A Hexagram appeared, and with the Hexagram, we could analyze the Life Gate. Before I could make sense of it,
Bai Qiling stood up and walked forward, leaving behind a remark.
"The Life Gate is over there!"
Mu Xuanche pulled me along, and Shangguan Mingyue followed closely behind.
Bai Qiling led us back to the place where we had encountered the female ghost with a pig-like face. The Blood-Red Wall that Mu Xuanche had just destroyed had surprisingly reformed itself.
"This is the Life Gate," Bai Qiling informed us.
I tentatively reached out to poke the blood wall, but before my hand could touch it, Bai Qiling yanked me back.
"Are you trying to get yourself killed?"
Confused by the situation, I wondered why Mu Xuanche had been able to push against the wall without any issues, while I was being warned against touching it.
Seeing my bewilderment, Mu Xuanche offered an explanation.
"The female ghost earlier only wanted to trap us, so that wall posed no threat. Now that there are three more female ghosts, the wall has transformed into the Life Gate. If you touch it, the wall will explode, and everyone will die."
His words left me in shock, my hand frozen in mid-air. My earlier recklessness had nearly cost us our lives.
"Give it to me."
Bai Qiling suddenly said this to me. Not understanding his intent, I asked in confusion, "What?"
He shot me an annoyed glance and clarified, "Your hand."
I coldly extended my hand toward him as he pulled out a knife from his pocket and aimed it at my arm.
I instinctively tried to pull back, but he held onto me tightly.
As a result, he was sent flying by Mu Xuanche's palm.
Even Shangguan Mingyue shouted at him in anger, "What are you doing? Why are you bullying Yan Xi for no reason?"
Bai Qiling's expression darkened, his demeanor serious as he glared at Mu Xuanche.
"Do you want everyone to die here?"
Mu Xuanche merely squinted his eyes and did not respond.
It seemed that Bai Qiling had sensed something was off. Earlier, when he held my right hand, there was a mark left by Mu Xuanche on my ring finger. Was he looking for that?
I pushed past Mu Xuanche and stood in front of him, lowering my head to scrutinize Bai Qiling.
"My blood can break this wall, right? I just need to cut my ring finger and let the blood flow, correct?"
Bai Qiling sneered, collapsing onto the ground in a heap, mocking me.
"There’s an idiot who has waited a thousand years for an opportunity and is letting it slip away right before his eyes. Are you really that foolish?"
I grabbed Bai Qiling, pressing him for answers. "What do you mean?"
He pointed at Shiro and looked at me. "Do you know who gave you that weapon?"
I didn’t answer him but turned to glance at Mu Xuanche.
On the ground, Bai Qiling noticed my gaze and laughed again. "Let me tell you another secret: that weapon is meant to protect that fool, yet he gave it to you for your survival. It’s as useless as scrap metal on you. Isn’t that laughable?"
Recalling the temple in the village, I had originally obtained this Shiro beneath the statue. At that time, I returned to Liu Qingfeng's house covered in wounds from being bitten by the Yellow Weasel, yet there wasn't a single mark on me.
I found it strange back then. Now, with Bai Qiling's explanation, I finally understood the truth.
From start to finish, it was all a self-directed play by Mu Xuanche. Liu Qingfeng had sent me to retrieve Shiro merely to test whether Mu Xuanche was willing to help and how confident he was in saving me.
Bai Qiling wanted to continue, but Mu Xuanche interrupted him sharply.
"Enough."
He seemed to have more to say, but Shangguan Mingyue rushed over and covered his mouth, silencing him.
Glancing at everyone, Mu Xuanche declared firmly, "I won't let anything happen to you."
He took the Shiro from my hands and looked at me.
"No, stop him."
Bai Qiling on the ground struggled to push Shangguan Mingyue away and shouted.
Even without my warning, he had already sensed something was wrong and had rushed to grab Mu Xuanche. Fortunately, I acted in time; otherwise, the knife that had injured Mu Xuanche would have plunged into his heart.
"You lunatic."
Bai Qiling yelled at him. Mu Xuanche shot a glare at Bai Qiling, forbidding him from intervening.
In a fit of anger, Bai Qiling stood up and pointed at me. "Do you know this madman is willing to destroy this blood wall using his own heart's blood just so you wouldn't suffer even a scratch? This heart's blood is the only thing he has left; without it, his physical body will be destroyed."
Tears blurred my vision, and I had always thought that I was the one who fell for him first, unwilling to let go of the fluttering in my heart. Little did I know that he had already done so much behind the scenes. I stared intently at Bai Qiling.
"Is it enough to destroy this wall with the blood from my hand?"
The moment he nodded, I unhesitatingly drove Shiro into my palm and pulled it out.
Mu Xuanche shouted angrily at Bai Qiling, "If anything happens to her, I'll make you pay for it."
I slapped my bloodied palm against the red wall.
The blood that had been clinging to the wall began to flow down continuously, slowly revealing the original appearance of the wall beneath.
It was as if the wall could absorb blood, drawing more and more from my palm, causing my face to turn pale instantly.
As the blood loss accelerated, a throbbing pain started in my head, and I weakly looked toward Mu Xuanche.
"Hurry, do something."
Mu Xuanche glanced at me with concern and then raised his hand to strike the wall.
"Boom!"
The wall collapsed instantly, and I was thrown back. Fortunately, Mu Xuanche caught me just in time.
However, blood continued to flow from my hand without stopping. Mu Xuanche angrily yelled at Bai Qiling, "Get over here and take a look!"
After observing for a moment, he shook his head at Mu Xuanche.
"Useless, the bleeding won't stop."
Mu Xuanche swung his fist and struck Bai Qiling in the face, sending him flying.
Shangguan Mingyue, rarely showing kindness, came over to help him up and walked toward me, giving me a pained smile.
"Don't worry, I have a way."
She then took out the Jade Gourd hanging around her neck. Pouring out the pills inside, she crushed them into powder and placed it in my palm.
The Jade Gourd had been with Shangguan Mingyue since I met her; she never took it off, even when sleeping or bathing.
When I asked her why, she said it was a protective talisman left to her by her parents and that she couldn't part with it.
Bai Qiling's eyes widened in disbelief as he looked at Shangguan Mingyue.
"You actually took out the heirloom of the Shangguan Family to use it like this."
