At the moment the knife was about to make contact with my abdomen, the air around us suddenly thickened.
The knife froze in mid-air, no matter how hard the man tried, it just wouldn't plunge down.
Seizing the opportunity, I stepped back a few paces, distancing myself from the blade.
Then I collided into a solid embrace; it was clear without thinking that Mu Xuanche had arrived.
He held me up, and I had initially planned to rush to save Mingyue,
but I had forgotten that things were different now with Bai Qiling around.
He had already positioned himself beside Mingyue, shielding her behind him. It seemed I could worry less about her for now.
The three men, seeing two more burly figures suddenly appear, showed no signs of fear. The leader stepped forward, casting a sidelong glance at us and shouted, "Where did these blind fools come from? How dare you ruin our good time? Do you want to die?"
For the three reckless men before me who continued to shout threats, I could only silently recite a prayer for their souls; offending Mu Xuanche meant there was no escape for them.
If Mu Xuanche hadn't arrived just in time, that man's knife would have pierced my belly by now. Such a ruthless person was a danger to society if left unchecked.
Mu Xuanche raised his hand, and the Shiro that the man had been holding returned to Mu Xuanche's grasp.
The sudden turn of events left the three men stunned; they exchanged glances before charging at us together.
The man who had aimed to harm me was seized by Mu Xuanche, who then threw him to the ground where he couldn't rise.
Mu Xuanche crouched down, brandishing Shiro as he thrust it toward the man's abdomen without a hint of hesitation.
Blood flew everywhere, and at the moment it touched Mu Xuanche, it all seemed to automatically avoid him.
Everyone present was terrified; no one expected Mu Xuanche to act this way.
The man who had been stabbed looked down at his abdomen in that instant, his eyes filled with sheer terror.
Although I harbored deep resentment towards that man, seeing Mu Xuanche like this also frightened me.
It seemed he had no intention of stopping. Shiro circled around the man's belly before being pulled out horizontally. The once gleaming Shiro was now drenched in bright red blood, with colorful intestines still hanging from the blade's tip.
"My woman is not someone you can touch," he said, his voice sinister and commanding, as if it came from a hellish demon.
The man on the ground stared wide-eyed in fear, his face a mask of horror. He trembled uncontrollably, unable to even scream for help.
Mu Xuanche was about to swing the knife down again when I intervened.
"Killing them will only attract the police. Let's just call them instead; their crimes are enough for them to suffer," I suggested.
He nodded and wiped Shiro on the man's clothing before handing it back to me.
Bai Qiling had subdued the other two and walked over to glance at the man on the ground. She sneered at Mu Xuanche, saying, "Xuan Wang, you're too brutal. A single stab like that could easily kill him. That's too quick; if it were me, I'd avoid the vital points and stab him slowly, all while applying pressure to stop the bleeding until he dies from fear."
After hearing Bai Qiling's words, Shangguan Mingyue and I exchanged glances, silently deciding to keep our distance from these two psychopaths in the future.
The man at my feet who had been stabbed by Mu Xuanche was already incapacitated; now only the two men tied up by Bai Qiling remained.
As long as we notify the police to come, this place should no longer concern us.
In a moment of distraction, we failed to notice, and by the time we realized, it was already a bit late.
I only remembered dealing with those three men and forgot about the three women who were imprisoned, one of whom had developed Stockholm Syndrome.
The ropes binding the man had already been untied, and the two men stood up, staring at us.
They looked completely different; their faces, once filled with terror, were now contorted with rage, and there was even a sneer at the corners of their mouth s.
"You are Xuan Wang," one of the men said, fixing his gaze on Mu Xuanche. No one expected him to actually recognize Mu Xuanche.
We remained still, wanting to see what he would do next.
To our surprise, he burst into loud laughter. "Hahaha, I finally waited for you!"
"Please, no! I'm begging you!" The Three Women kneeling on the ground suddenly cried out loudly, their wails filled with despair.
We were still trying to figure out what was happening when the man reached into his pocket, smirked coldly, and shouted, "Long live the Leader!"
"Not good!" Mu Xuanche shouted as he grabbed me and dashed to a corner.
My body was tightly embraced, completely covered by him.
"Bang!"
A loud explosion followed by a blaze of fire erupted.
They were all dead.
All of them...
That man actually detonated the bomb, intending to take everyone down with him.
Fortunately, Mu Xuanche reacted in time and protected me.
" Mingyue, Mingyue, are you okay?"
Worried that Shangguan Mingyue and the others might be in trouble, as soon as Mu Xuanche let go of me, I rushed over to find them.
"Cough, cough, I'm here!"
Hearing Mingyue's voice, I hurried over and saw a pile of bricks had collapsed, revealing a section of Shangguan Mingyue's clothing underneath.
Without thinking, I quickly reached out to move the bricks.
In my haste, I forgot that Mu Xuanche was an incredibly powerful individual. He effortlessly lifted me aside and said, "Step back."
I obediently stood to the side as he waved his hand, clearing all the bricks away.
Beneath Brick, two figures were pinned down, with Bai Qiling facing away from us, lying on top of Shangguan Mingyue.
It appeared that she was shielding Shangguan Mingyue from danger, but only Bai Qiling knew the true situation.
Once freed, Shangguan Mingyue quickly pushed Bai Qiling away and stood up, her face flushed as she brushed off the dust from her clothes.
With such a commotion, the police would arrive shortly; it was best to leave before any trouble arose.
“Mu Xuanche, let’s go,” she urged, pulling at Mu Xuanche to leave, but he frowned and remained still.
Confused, I asked, “What’s wrong?”
He replied coldly, “We can’t leave.”
Not understanding his meaning, I tried to move toward the exit.
As I approached the doorway, it felt as if some barrier repelled me back.
Not willing to give up, I tried again, only to be bounced back once more.
Turning around, I asked Mu Xuanche what was going on.
He explained that this place was specifically set up with a Cursed Spirit Formation designed to trap us.
No wonder the members of the Cult of Spirits had called him “Xuan Wang” as if they recognized him; it turned out this trap had been laid out for us from the very beginning.
Last time I used the Golden Gate Locking Immortal Formation against Cao Jin, and this time the Cult of Spirits is using the Cursed Spirit Formation against us.
The Cursed Spirit Formation has been recorded in ancient texts, stating that this formation is extremely evil, unyielding and relentless, requiring the Vengeful Spirit of women to serve as its guardian deity.
Those three women had suffered so much during their imprisonment that their Resentment had long since built up. Coupled with their desperate pleas at the moment of death, they perished in an explosion without leaving a complete corpse.
The power of this formation has likely doubled by now; there is no way to counter it.
"Follow me and take a look; I refuse to believe in evil," Bai Qiling declared with confidence, leading us around.
Unexpectedly, despite his seemingly carefree demeanor, he displayed a different side in this situation. Just by observing his footsteps, it was clear he was an expert.
He walked with the Lotus Step, a special technique typically associated with women, yet it exuded an ethereal quality when applied by him.
He was also setting up a formation, much like how I previously created Gossip.
After walking three circles, Bai Qiling stopped and charged toward the alleyway.
With a loud bang, he was bounced back.
He propped himself up and brushed off the dust from his clothes, calmly saying, "What a pity for this fine skin of mine; after being tossed around like this today, it might be ruined."
"Hahaha..."
A sudden woman's laughter echoed throughout the space, sending chills down my spine.
Shangguan Mingyue looked at me and asked, "Yan Xi, are you scared?"
I nodded honestly. She laughed and patted my shoulder.
"What's there to be afraid of? You and I are ghost hunters, and we have two powerful spirits standing right beside us. Why be afraid of that female ghost? You're too timid."
I shot her a glare and explained, "Mingyue, the reason I'm scared is that this formation amplifies the Vengeful Spirit's Resentment tenfold."
"Within this formation, she is the master."
