"You have a child now,"
The big man stared at me with wide eyes, unable to believe it. Even Shangguan Mingyue didn't know I had a child, let alone him. I nodded.
He rushed over, grabbing Bai Qiling and insisting that he must save me. With a swift motion, Bai Qiling threw the big man aside.
"You lunatic! If you keep pulling me like this, are you trying to watch them die?"
The big man was stunned, not daring to disturb Bai Qiling. He circled around me anxiously, wanting to help but afraid of hurting me.
My consciousness grew fainter. After Bai Qiling fed me a bowl of medicine, a sharp pain shot through my abdomen, and I fainted.
When I woke up, it was already two hours later. The first thing I did was touch my belly; the slightly protruding abdomen gave me a sense of reassurance.
The first person to notice I was awake was the big man. He had been sleeping beside me and immediately stood up when he saw my eyes open.
"You’re awake! I'll go call Bai Qiling to come check on you."
Watching the big man dash out, my confusion deepened. His concern for me was too obvious. He was so anxious that when he heard something might be wrong with the child in my belly, he nearly killed Bai Qiling.
This felt very strange. If the big man liked me, it would be impossible; he seemed to regard me with respect. Just now, the way he looked at me was filled with the same reverence he had for Island Master.
Before long, Bai Qiling entered the room.
A burly man served him, pulling out a chair with a fawning expression.
He reached out to check my pulse, and as I observed his complexion, I noticed he no longer appeared anxious; instead, he seemed calm and unhurried. I felt reassured that everything would be fine.
However, Bai Qiling, known for his sharp tongue, shot back at me with irritation, "Don't worry, she won't die."
The burly man immediately jumped up and grabbed Bai Qiling by the arm.
"What do you mean by 'won't die'? Don't curse her!"
Bai Qiling was not one to back down easily either. With a defiant tone, he replied, "What’s it to you? If I die, what can you do about it?"
The burly man looked serious as he pointed at Bai Qiling. "You can hit me if you want, but you can't touch her in any way."
Seeing the two about to argue again made my head spin, so I quickly intervened.
"Stop it, big guy."
I thought it would take some effort to calm him down, but to my surprise, he halted immediately at my command and sulked back to my side.
His big eyes kept rolling in Bai Qiling's direction.
"Lord Bai, how is Shangguan Mingyue?"
As soon as I mentioned Shangguan Mingyue's name, Bai Qiling's expression shifted noticeably.
Feeling particularly awkward, I pretended to cough before saying, "It's nothing."
I originally wanted to get out of bed to see the bright moon, but the big man wouldn’t allow it. Plus, I was experiencing some discomfort, so I had no choice but to lie back down.
The big man attended to me like a devoted servant.
Although he had been very kind to me before, it was merely the kindness of a friend. But now, he treated me like a revered deity.
"Big man, could you please fetch me some water?"
Just as I was instructing him to get the water, the door to the room was pushed open.
The person I had missed so much had returned. He looked at me with a somewhat cold gaze.
It seemed that even the big man sensed something and put down the cup of water, taking the initiative to step outside.
I was still puzzled about why the big man seemed so afraid of Mu Xuanche when he had already stood in front of me.
Han Che's eyes radiated a chilling light, and his face, as beautiful as a sculpture, now felt as cold as ice atop a snow-capped mountain. The temperature in the room dropped several degrees in an instant.
I looked at him, too afraid to speak, while he stared back at me without uttering a word.
The door was pushed open again, but this time it was Bai Qiling who entered.
He always came at this time to check on me; it was time for my examination.
Seeing Mu Xuanche alongside Bai Qiling made me want to run away immediately, but Mu Xuanche caught me.
As I struggled against Bai Qiling's grip, I tried to appease him, saying, "Let’s talk nicely, Xuan Wang. Please don’t be violent."
Mu Xuanche shot a cold glare at him, throwing him out and saying in a frosty tone, "I'll settle the score with you later."
Watching my only hope leave, my heart began to race again.
Mu Xuanche was truly terrifying; his gaze felt as if he wanted to devour me whole.
He slowly leaned down, stopping just a few inches from my face.
"Do you really want to die this badly?"
His words were squeezed out through clenched teeth, sending chills down my spine.
I dared not meet his eyes and instinctively tried to look away, but he grasped my chin with his hand.
The pain on either side of my face forced me to look at him. His obsidian-like eyes radiated a suffocating intensity, revealing his anger.
The sound of my racing heartbeat and my steady breaths felt oddly out of place in the tranquil atmosphere of the hospital room.
"Your life is mine, do you understand?"
This was his second sentence to me since entering. My heart tightened, and I attempted to reach out and embrace him.
But as soon as my fingers brushed against his body, he slapped my hand away.
A pang of hurt shot through me, and tears blurred my vision involuntarily.
In front of others, I could be strong, but in front of Mu Xuanche, I felt powerless.
Pouting slightly, I looked at him with a sense of grievance.
He shot me a glare, pulling my hand under the covers, scolding, "You’re still not being honest even when you're sick."
With those words, all my emotions crumbled in an instant.
Mu Xuanche had such a magical power that I could no longer hold back. I reached out and embraced him without giving him a chance to refuse, resting my head against his neck and whispering in his ear, "I miss you."
As those three words fell from my lips, tears began to well up in my eyes.
Nestled against his body, I felt his cold temperature. His soul was merely temporarily residing within his body, so he had no warmth, no heartbeat, and no breath.
But being able to hold him gave me a sense of reality, and that was enough.
I forced him to lie down on the hospital bed with me. This time, it was my initiative as I lifted my head to kiss his thin lips.
In the past, it was always Mu Xuanche leading me; now that I took the initiative, I found myself at a loss for what to do.
I kept kissing his lips, lingering at this step.
He tightened his embrace around me and whispered in my ear, "Fool."
"I'm sorry, Mu Xuanche. I almost hurt the baby," I admitted, feeling the weight of motherhood for the first time. My voice choked as the words left my mouth.
His body stiffened slightly, seemingly displeased.
Then his cold voice broke the silence, "Do you still not understand where you went wrong?"
Nestled in his arms, I secretly stuck out my tongue and promised softly, "I won’t dare next time. From now on, I'll definitely tell you about any actions I take."
He felt a mix of anger and helplessness as he reached out to touch my head, rubbing it vigorously a few times.
"You, you know, children are important, but if we lose one, we can always have another. But if I lose my wife, where will I find her?"
I had initially planned to retort that if he lost his wife, he could remarry, but thankfully I held my tongue. If those words had slipped out, I would surely have faced the wrath of Mu Xuanche.
Children can be born again, but I couldn't help but wonder if the baby inside me would regret choosing this womb after hearing such words.
I obediently nodded in his embrace like a garlic clove being pounded, knowing better than to defy him now.
Wrapping my arms around his neck, my hands instinctively began to explore his body.
He caught my hand and looked at me with reproach. "What are you doing?"
"Just messing with you."
The words escaped my lips before I could think, and I instantly regretted it, my face flushing as I dared not meet his gaze.
After being apart for so many days, I truly missed him.
When he lunged toward me, I hesitated for a moment.
"Will it hurt the baby?"
His deep and gentle eyes held a warmth that reassured me. "It's my child; what is there to fear?"
His confidence was almost frightening. Without any more reservations, he closed the distance between us.
In an instant, his clothes vanished as he reached out, his hands softly caressing my neck with a tone that was both low and tinged with helplessness.
"Be good, don't move, I'm coming,"
The voice was deep and magnetic, making it hard for me to resist.
I nodded, and he noticed me.
Then came the storm. He had once been like a Glutton, endlessly demanding from me, but now he was gentle as water, leading me step by step into surrender.
He dug a deep pit, coaxing me to jump in little by little.
When he sensed that I truly could bear no more, he slowly let me go.
Even when the storm subsided, he was unwilling to let me pull away from him, holding me close as we drifted off to sleep together.
