A loud bang echoed through the room, causing my head to tilt to one side. A searing pain shot across my face, making me grit my teeth and gasp for breath.
Suddenly, everything brightened up, and my head felt lighter. In front of me was Shangguan Mingyue's anxious face.
I blinked in confusion and asked, "What happened?"
Shangguan Mingyue was visibly furious. "Damn it! That ghostly woman possessed you and kept screaming about wanting to kill someone. I couldn't stop you; I almost got choked to death!"
Sure enough, I noticed two red handprints on Shangguan Mingyue's neck and smiled apologetically at her.
"Let's go. I can't handle this place anymore. That ghost woman is filled with resentment; this is where she died, and it will only amplify her Yin Qi. We need to retreat and come up with a plan."
As she spoke, Shangguan Mingyue tugged at me to head for the door.
I was momentarily dazed and could only follow her.
Suddenly, the door wouldn't budge, no matter how hard Shangguan Mingyue kicked it.
Seeing her face darken, I quickly asked what was wrong.
She shot me a fierce glance and said, "It seems your roommate isn't planning to let us leave."
"Stay with me..."
"Stay with me..."
In the room, the sharp voice of Liu Tian echoed continuously, sending chills down my spine, piercing through my mind like a Demonic Sound.
Suddenly, Shangguan Mingyue lunged at me with her Peach Wood Sword.
The Peach Wood Sword grazed my neck as it passed, and I felt a sharp pain there, followed by a scream from behind me.
"What happened?"
"The ghost woman wants to take you as a scapegoat. Your dagger was quite impressive just now; why don’t you hurry up and use it?" After finishing her words, Shangguan Mingyue danced with the Peach Wood Sword and resumed fighting Liu Tian.
Holding Shiro in my hand, I hesitated as I watched the two of them battle, especially after learning about Liu Tian's death earlier.
I shouted at Liu Tian, "Liu Tian, let go. Those people are already dead; don’t sacrifice yourself for them."
In an instant, Liu Tian had gained the upper hand, gripping Shangguan Mingyue's neck tightly. She smiled at me with a bloodthirsty grin, her eyes filled with mockery. "Hahaha, you want me to let go? Sure. Just be willing to be my substitute, and I’ll release her."
Stubborn and unyielding...
I gripped Shiro tightly and slowly approached. Liu Tian noticed my movement and tightened her grip on Shangguan Mingyue's neck. Shangguan Mingyue let out a pained cry, and I quickly halted in my tracks.
"Liu Tian, what do you want?"
Liu Tian glared at me with a fierce expression. "I want to take your life."
Shangguan Mingyue's face was already turning slightly pale; time was running out.
I shouted angrily, "Fine, come at me."
Liu Tian's gaze flicked to Shiro in my hand. I understood her intent and casually tossed Shiro onto the nearby sofa, looking at her and saying, "Is this good enough?"
Liu Tian smiled in satisfaction, shoving Shangguan Mingyue against the wall before charging toward me.
I closed my eyes, unsure of what would happen next. My heart raced, pounding loudly in my chest, amplifying my fear. But I had no choice; I had to save Shangguan Mingyue.
A massive shadow loomed over me, and even with my eyes shut, I could feel Liu Tian closing in.
The air around me grew thin, making it feel as if my chest would explode.
Creak, creak! Creak, creak...
The room was filled with Liu Tian's sharp laughter, sending chills down my spine as the temperature continued to drop.
My head throbbed painfully, feeling like it would burst. The only thing I could do was bang my head against the wall.
Liu Tian was tormenting me; she had transformed into a demon, blurring the lines between right and wrong.
In the midst of the chaos, my hand trembled slightly as it grasped the Bone Whistle around my neck. I brought it to my lips and blew into it. Ever since that time when Cao Jin nearly killed me, I had carried the Bone Whistle with me everywhere.
It was my only glimmer of hope; whether I would survive tonight depended on this.
Just before the last breath of air was drawn away from me, I saw the dim room brighten as if it were day.
Someone gently lifted me from the ground, and I struggled to open my eyes. Mu Xuanche's incredibly handsome face appeared before me. His exquisite features radiated a cold, imposing aura, and the chill surrounding him was almost suffocating.
Then, I slipped back into unconsciousness.
Now, as I woke up in this unfamiliar room, my head felt heavy, and I couldn't quite grasp what had happened.
"Ah, you're awake!"
Hearing the voice, I turned towards the door and saw Shangguan Mingyue standing by my bedside with a large bowl in her hands, her face beaming with joy.
I sat up, and she rushed towards me. "You finally woke up!"
"What happened? Where am I?" I asked.
Shangguan Mingyue shoved the bowl into my hands. "This is my home! Hurry, you've been asleep for a while; eat something."
Asleep for a while? What exactly happened?
"Where's Liu Tian?" I inquired.
Shangguan Mingyue leaned closer to me with a mysterious look on her face and whispered, "The great deity you summoned took care of him. Come on, tell me who that deity is! I saw him kiss you before he left."
A deity!
Mu Xuanche! Instinctively, I reached up to touch my lips, trying to feel his presence.
But I was defeated by Shangguan Mingyue's laughter. I shot her an annoyed glare, and she finally stopped.
I told Shangguan Mingyue that he was my Underworld Husband, and she showed no surprise at all. Instead, she started asking me for details.
I was so startled that I quickly dodged away from her.
After eating the noodles that Shangguan Mingyue had prepared for me, I left her house as quickly as possible and rushed back to school.
I had already been missing for a while, and if I stayed gone any longer, I feared Yuan Yuan would call the police. If that happened, it would alarm my parents, and that would be a disaster.
However, this time returning to school came with an extra follower. Shangguan Mingyue, feeling too lonely, clung to me like a sloth and refused to let go. I had no choice but to bring her along.
As soon as I opened the dormitory door and was about to step inside, a gust of wind rushed at me. It was Yuan Yuan, her eyes red and filled with excitement. "Yan Xi, you're finally back! It turned out her tears were not for Liu Tian or for my disappearance but for her own inner fear. A strange feeling flashed through my heart as I looked at Yuan Yuan a little longer.
Shangguan Mingyue leaned closer to my ear and whispered, "Your roommate is such a green tea."
Then she turned away from me and entered the dormitory on her own.
After all, we were roommates; it would be awkward if I made things uncomfortable. I took Yuan Yuan's hand and led her back into the room, asking, "What happened with the police?"
"The police said Liu Tian was murdered. Now Wanhui has been sealed off, and the person who killed Liu Tian committed suicide," Yuan Yuan replied.
Hearing Yuan Yuan's narration, I glanced at Shangguan Mingyue, who returned my look with a sly smile. In that moment, I understood—she must have reported this to the police.
That evening, unable to endure Yuan Yuan's incessant questioning, I had no choice but to find an excuse to leave the dormitory.
The campus was empty, gradually coming back to life as students returned for the new semester.
With nowhere to go, I wandered to a place in the campus where students often strolled.
This park was usually a popular dating spot for couples, but now it felt eerily quiet.
A chill swept through the air, and I could faintly sense a ghostly presence approaching.
Recently, I had been studying the ancient book Liu Daozhang gave me, which contained instructions on how to perform rituals to ward off spirits. I positioned my middle and index fingers in preparation.
"Don't be nervous, it's me."
Suddenly, a delicate woman's voice echoed in the air. It sounded somewhat familiar, yet I couldn't recall where I had heard it before.
Gradually, I sensed someone sitting beside me, and the atmosphere began to thicken as a transparent figure materialized from thin air.
As I recognized her face, I realized this ghost was the same one who had insisted on talking to me that night.
Seeing that she meant no harm, I said, "It's you."
The ghost seemed particularly delighted that I was willing to converse with her. She grinned widely and asked, "Yes, yes! I'm really happy to see you. What's your name?"
"I am Gu Yanxi..." I initially wanted to ask her name, but remembering that she had no memory, my words caught in my throat.
"That's nice. I don't even know what my name is," the female ghost said, looking at me with a sense of desolation.
"Where is your tombstone? I can go check it out for you, or maybe find some information that could lead us to your name."
The female ghost pointed sadly towards a large tree ahead. "My body is buried beneath it."
A strange feeling rose in my heart; could it be that she was murdered?
"Evil Spirit, how audacious..."
With a furious shout, I saw Shangguan Mingyue charging at the female ghost with a Peach Wood Sword.
Faced with Shangguan Mingyue, the female ghost suddenly wore a face full of Yin Qi, startling me; just moments ago, I almost mistook her for a living person.
Shangguan Mingyue shouted urgently at me, " Yan Xi , come here quickly! I'll protect you!"
I silently rubbed my forehead, standing between the two of them. I explained to Shangguan Mingyue, "Mingyue, stop! She’s a good ghost and won’t harm me."
Shangguan Mingyue yanked me over and swiftly swung her hand towards my face, which I caught with one hand.
She yelled anxiously, " Yan Xi , let go of me! You've been Possessed by a ghost again. I need to wake you up; don’t stop me!"
I forcefully shook off Shangguan Mingyue's hand and shot her an exasperated look. "Are you out of your mind? Do I look like I've been Possessed by a ghost?"
She looked me up and down, and after a few glances, Shangguan Mingyue finally began to believe my words. She reached for her neck and pulled out a talisman, handing it to me. "As long as you dare to crush this, I will believe you."
Without hesitation, I took the talisman and squeezed it, asking, "Do you believe me now?"
Only then did Shangguan Mingyue relax, carefully examining the female ghost behind me. "She really won't harm anyone."
I glanced at the ghost, and she understood. Turning to Shangguan Mingyue, she said, "As long as you don't capture me, I won't hurt you."
With a temporary truce established, the three of us—two humans and one ghost—sat in a line.
After explaining the situation with the ghost to Shangguan Mingyue, I asked her, "Is there a way to restore her memory?"
Shangguan Mingyue looked at me with a mysterious expression. "There is a way, but it comes at a cost."
"What kind of cost?"
