With the appearance of Medusa, the hunters underwent a significant transformation, their demeanor taking on a unique flair. Their spirits seemed particularly bright in the face of battle, highlighting the importance of charisma; even when stationed, they could provide a substantial boost to the team.
It was easy to imagine just how strong they had become. At the same time, something unusual flickered in midair. Yes, the battlefield was becoming lively again, as creatures resembling Exoskeletons surged forth like tidal waves. Their jet-black bodies and sunken yellow eyes evoked a chilling sense of dread.
"This is truly a terrifying sight," Medusa murmured. "I feel like I've seen these creatures somewhere before; it's oddly familiar." As soon as this thought crossed her mind, she instinctively twitched her lips and suddenly exclaimed, "No way, could it be them?"
"What do you mean by 'them'? Let's just go all out!" someone nearby rushed over, urgency evident in their voice.
"Go all out? You can if you want to die, but no one should underestimate their own life. We must cherish our abilities," a man beside Medusa replied with a hint of indifference.
"I remember that back then, you struggled to escape from these creatures. How did you manage it? They are monsters with unbeatable Defense Power; it's impossible to break through them. That's what troubles me," Medusa said.
"I don't want to recall those times anymore. Let's leave it at that," the man replied.
Everyone had their own past, filled with memories they might not wish to forget but were reluctant to let go of. Medusa thought she was close to forgetting these things until she saw these creatures again, which brought back every detail of her past. For her, these memories were not a good omen; they were nightmares buried deep within her soul that had shaped her into who she was today. In fact, Medusa's title of Black Widow stemmed from this very experience.
At that moment, the muscles around her eyes twitched slightly, an ominous feeling washing over her. She immediately raised an arm and swung it forward with force. Following this motion, the long-silent city gate cannon atop the Tower groaned to life and erupted with sound.
Flames quickly engulfed the area as the hard Exoskeletons resembling Scarabs shattered upon impact. The explosion and intense heat became the primary deterrent against this swarm of Scarabs; they could no longer act recklessly.
As a result, the group's momentum began to show some effect, and more people moved closer. However, even the attacks from the City Defense Cannon were insufficient to suppress so many Scarabs, leaving those atop the Tower feeling quite helpless.
Only being able to throw grenades or use submachine guns was already outdated. The Plasma Bombardment's Plasma Weapon could unleash tremendous power in an instant, capable of evaporating ten cubic meters of water in a heartbeat. It was certainly not excessive to use such force against a large swarm of Scarabs.
One could imagine that without their assistance, these creatures might have already climbed up. They were practically immune to knives and guns; bullets might even bounce back if they hit.
Given this, such Defense Power was terrifying enough for humanity. If human technology had not advanced to this level, they might have been completely overrun by the Zerg. The probability of humans taking down a single Scarab would be quite low.
Perhaps the odds were around five to one. Such a significant event should suffice. While some matters appeared complex from other perspectives, the expressions of the remaining few were quite serious. The attack visuals were particularly evident as the area of effect for the plasma bomb expanded, being loaded into the shoulder-mounted launcher and quickly fired off into the distance.
The force of the attack became increasingly apparent, with distant explosions resonating through the air, flames erupting violently. From other viewpoints, the firelight mingled within the affected area.
However, as the flames burst forth, the impact from others also affected the surrounding environment. The foundation of the Mountainous Region was unstable, so once destruction occurred, it was challenging to achieve timely recovery. Thus, the impact here was more pronounced than in other areas.
As the attack reached a certain range, it was clear that the previous charge had weakened significantly. Coupled with the release from the City Defense Cannon, the aggressiveness of the Scarabs came to a halt; it was nearly impossible for them to maintain a complete unit.
In this regard, such scale was no match for humanity. The Laser Gun Array gradually emerged from underground in other parts of the Tower.
Through this assault, their hard shells were gradually cut open; such lethality was incomparable. Consequently, under the combined pressure of both forces, the intensity of further attacks diminished little by little.
Even if it was a reduction in strength? It seemed indeed so?!
The range suddenly expanded; it could suppress from afar while also striking at extremely close quarters. This appeared utterly helpless and truly invincible; the Scarab campaign was extinguished without a trace within five minutes.
In this way, at the foot of the Mountainous Region, another massive swarm of insects gathered. Their numbers reached an unfathomable level and resembled a Swarm; it would be more accurate to describe them as an army formation. Each insect seemed to be arranged as if preparing for battle, rendering any impending attack utterly futile.
The attack seemed to be far from over, and it was impossible to guess how long it would last. However, as the new commander, Medusa could not let this situation continue. The pressure she felt was steadily increasing, and her gaze was extremely fierce. Under such circumstances, many people dared not approach her, feeling suffocated by the atmosphere. From another perspective, it was clear that Medusa had developed a terrifying ability.
Her power had awakened, likely triggered by seeing certain things that stimulated her. As a result, Medusa's abilities surged even more.
Those who dared to come close risked being crushed in an instant. If this continued for too long, it would only lead to their hearts being affected and ultimately exploding. It was truly a terrifying capability.
