The insect was peculiar, its outer protective barrier resembling a calcium-like substance that became apparent after infrared scanning.
Ordinary calcium is quite fragile, but the calcium that formed this barrier was in a colorless and intangible state, likely driven by the creature's internal ability.
This composition appeared terrifying, and no one could have anticipated such a result. The Sparrow Missile continued to bombard the wall without any visible effect; it seemed that the material's composition was indeed formidable.
"Ugh, no effect? What are we going to do now?" shouted a soldier from the Human Alliance, taken aback by the stark contrast of their efforts. Though they were typically aggressive, even they were shocked by the situation.
The soldiers with Cannons did not dare to stop firing. While their shots might not inflict significant damage, at least firing would help heat up the barrels. Moreover, the insect still showed some fear towards the light and heat produced by the Cannons.
Although the bullets from those Cannons appeared extremely thin, like toothpicks striking against the thick Exoskeleton, they likely wouldn't leave even a white mark. It was clear that they couldn't hit the target across from them, nor would they instill any fear in its thoughts. Yet, they continued to bombard with a relentless barrage of Cannons.
While this might slow down the insect's advance slightly, it still wouldn’t prevent it from moving forward at all. If it broke through, it could invade the city; this high wall Tower could not contain it. However, over the years, thanks to their defenses and narrow passages, they had managed to fend off numerous invasions from the Zerg.
Thus, this time, they absolutely could not allow this insect to breach their defenses; repairing such walls would come at a great cost.
Time and resources were critical; if they encountered other Zerg invasions during this process, humanity would pay a hefty price.
Of course, everyone thought this way. Meanwhile, assassins rushed out immediately. This group had always been tasked with executing high-profile targets but now openly abandoned their stronghold for action. They must have had their own plans to protect those behind them.
There were at least ten of them who set out. Assassins are known for their one-hit kills; they wouldn’t allow any hesitation in their techniques and moved fluidly in a seamless rotation of attacks. Their rush indicated they had a strategy in mind; it remained to be seen what they would do.
Sure enough, as these assassins charged forward, each held a large bundle of Chains in their hands. They dispersed quickly around the area while simultaneously throwing their Chains outwards. These Chains turned out to be part of an integrated Lock Dragon Chain system. Once these Chains spread out completely, one assassin took hold of a Lock Dragon Spine and leaped onto the insect's body.
The assassin's silent steps unfolded like air itself, unnoticed by the creature. As it leaped upward, the Dragon Spine Spike swiftly pierced the back of the Fire Beetle, sending strong vibrations rippling through its body. At that moment, the nature of the Chain began to reveal itself. The assassin, positioned on its back, suddenly jumped down and landed on the ground, where the end of the Chain emitted a powerful electric current.
Of course, if the Chain itself was capable of emitting electricity, that would be a different story.
This was no ordinary chain; despite its clumsy appearance, it was a finely crafted Alchemical Chain capable of releasing millions of volts of electricity—enough to turn a robust bull to ashes.
Even more terrifying was that they had never tested such a Chain on an Zerg before. It seemed like an intriguing experiment, albeit one tinged with a sense of gamble. They had to restrain this creature with such actions; otherwise, the outcome could be quite troublesome.
Other chains were anchored in the rock layers, unified by the Alchemical Matrix to function together. The powerful current indeed proved effective at that moment. The purpose of the Chain was to discharge electricity, so this attack involved the assassin channeling a significant amount of Elemental Power into an energy cycle. Although it took time, as long as the Dragon Spike on its back continued to function, there would be no other reactions during this process, and the current would keep flowing. The results were impressive but also consumed a considerable amount of Elemental Power from several assassins.
The combined assault from over a dozen assassins restrained this creature; one could only imagine how terrifying that was. A chilling sound quickly filled the air as the current coursed through its skin, bringing with it a scent of charred flesh.
After this experiment, it seemed to have had a significant effect. They had been holding their breath for too long and finally released it as the creature's movements slowed further.
It was likely that all its blood had coagulated from the voltage. After less than thirty seconds, piercing screams echoed through the air; astonishingly, it was only now that the creature reacted—indicative of its terrifying Defense Power.
"Great! Everyone attack together; the million-volt current is working!" The Alchemical Chain material was incredibly precious; there were only three in total within the entire guild, and now they had used one without knowing if it could be fully recovered.
As this situation continued, aircraft in the sky regained control and unleashed another barrage with Sparrow Trajectory.
The roar resonated continuously as those calcium-based walls shattered violently, followed by cannon fire from Fire Capital striking its body.
The mingling scent of smoke and blood swirled amidst the explosions. The figure emitting a burnt smell lingered for a moment before collapsing stiffly onto the ground. The humans stood speechless at this sight, and in an instant, cheers erupted around them.
The thick smoke lingered for a long time before gradually dissipating. The sounds of battle finally came to an end, and all the humans returned to Nipoguan, once again defending against the invasion of the Zerg.
However, this was just one encounter, and it remained uncertain whether there would be further assaults that night.
In response, the Patrol forces significantly expanded that night, with the Tower frequently illuminated by bright lights. Other personnel involved in strategic deployments hurried back to their tents to rest.
"Freyr, you don't need to keep watch tonight; go back and rest," a voice called out.
Turning around, Freyr recognized it as Hilbert's voice.
"Alright, President. Just let us stand for another ten minutes; once we feel it's safe here, we'll head back," Freyr replied. The others quickly gathered around, but upon hearing Freyr's words, they returned to their respective posts.
