The person beside him continued, "Let's just go back to the tent for now. We shouldn't complicate things further; it wouldn't be good to make things difficult for the Commander. Our team still needs to cooperate with others, and we don't know how long that will take."
Xiong Tai smiled slightly and slapped his forehead. "Alright, I’ll listen to you all. Let's go. If we don't head back, we'll be in trouble. When we do return, just tell the Commander that we went out for a meal; can we leave it at that?"
With Xiong Tai saying this, everyone else burst into laughter. His reasoning was simply ridiculous, and they couldn't hold back their amusement. How could they possibly have just gone out for a meal? After such a long time, they could have finished several meals already. They had been out training for so long without even breaking a sweat—no change of clothes or any sign of humidity; it was all too suspicious.
Ross chuckled quietly; he knew very well that Xiong Tai was pretending to train in order to sneak a peek at women. Moreover, pretending to train consumed energy and required some food as well, which nearly led to trouble. Fortunately, the misunderstanding was cleared up before it escalated further. If others had found out that Xiong Tai had spent all that time watching women, his carefully built image would have crumbled completely. He didn’t care what others thought as long as he believed he was training; their doubts were irrelevant.
"Stop laughing; I'm going to train," Xiong Tai said, licking his lips.
Ross nodded and lowered his voice, "I know what you're up to. We all understand without saying it, but I’ll keep your secret. Don’t worry; we’re comrades now and won’t stab you in the back."
After saying this, Ross led the others forward while Xiong Tai quietly followed behind.
He hadn’t expected that his little secret would be so clearly understood by others; this was something no one should have known about. Had he been caught acting? But his appetite had indeed increased significantly compared to before. Was he being too obvious? Xiong Tai wasn’t good at thinking things through; the more he pondered, the more it hurt his head, so he decided not to bother with anyone else. Undoubtedly, he wasn’t skilled at lying—had his cleverness backfired on him?
Silently trailing behind, they returned to the tent. Freyr seemed to have awakened from his dreams long ago; he sat on the bed staring blankly at the few people who entered through the door. They all appeared normal, which reassured him. However, Xiong Tai entered last and seemed unusually subdued compared to his usual lively self. At that moment, Freyr realized something must have happened.
His perceptive abilities were never wrong; a straightforward man like Xiong Tai would usually handle any situation calmly, but now he looked so grim—something must have occurred. However, given Xiong Tai's flamboyant personality, even if he asked, he might not get the real story.
"Commander, you're awake! It's great to see you're alright," Ross said with a smile.
"Why are you all so happy just because you see I'm fine? Whatever, I guess there's nothing wrong then? I can't shake the feeling that your expressions are quite serious upon returning. Are you hiding something from me? We’re a team here; we face everything together as one unit and share both hardships and fortunes," Freyr asked directly about what was going on.
The other person's gaze was somewhat dim. After a sigh, they continued, "How could that be? Nothing happened; we just went out to eat and just got back."
At this point, they themselves sensed something was off, their eyes filled with evasiveness.
Freyr frowned slightly and said, "Come on, your bad habits are hard to change. I know you're lying; there's no need for that. Just tell me what happened."
Relock lowered his head and asked, "Do we really have to?"
Hearing this, Ross suddenly became furious. This guy had outright betrayed them! But it was also strange; deceiving the man in front of them was truly difficult. Dealing with this guy required utmost effort—eleven parts acting and one part genuine reporting. However, Freyr was someone who despised acting; his own skills were the strongest, and no one could deceive him.
"What? We have nothing to hide, Commander. You have to believe us," Ross replied, trying to control his emotions.
"Still lying to me, aren't you? I can find out everything just by taking a walk. Do you really think you can hide it from me? Ha ha~"
There was a hint of determination in his eyes. Whenever he displayed that resolute gaze, those with guilty consciences would immediately show signs of reluctance. It was a painful struggle between wanting to continue hiding the truth and knowing they couldn't. In the end, their acting was too poor and got exposed. The eyes were the windows to the soul; one glance revealed all their thoughts, making it pointless to continue.
"Fine then, it's all been seen through. This is pointless," Relock said.
They hadn't expected Relock to betray them at that moment; the outcome was surprising. Xiong Tai's expression tightened with anxiety. Ross shrugged and sat down on the ground, wearing a determined smile that indicated he had come to terms with it.
"Ahh, I guess it's over now. Actually, we did something rather boring first—we followed Xiong Tai," Ross admitted without hesitation.
Xiong Tai immediately tensed up and stammered, "What? You followed me? What did you see?" He wasn't the only one feeling nervous; Xiong Tai was equally anxious. He had been lewdly standing under the Tower in the afternoon, watching the women above. Now that image was shattered; his tall figure suddenly resembled that of a creep.
"Yes, we tracked you down and found you under the Tower," Ross said, spitting on the ground. "We saw him practicing under the Tower, and he was quite skilled. We got so engrossed that we ended up hiding in the grass and watching for the whole morning. Then, when he didn't notice us, we went to the dining hall. Something unexpected happened when he arrived; that's how it went."
"Oh? Is that so? Nothing much happened then... wait, what unexpected thing? What happened?" Freyr frowned and continued.
"In the dining hall, Xiong Tai's eating habits were so appalling that it sparked public outrage," Ross laughed, causing those nearby to chuckle.
"Oh, is that what happened? By the way, I almost forgot to tell you that the current dining hall serves meals based on an average per person. The portion size is fixed for each individual, so the grain officer..." Freyr smiled as he began to understand the situation, breaking into a grin.
