"That's so strange."
At that moment, someone nearby muttered.
"It should be fine," Anis replied with a hum.
"What do you mean by 'fine'?" Russell asked.
"Well, it's a bit concerning, but don't worry. This is all part of my plan; it won't have any other effects."
Anis continued to type on the keyboard, taking a puff from his cigar, lost in thought.
Meanwhile, in the dark Wheat Field, hurried footsteps approached slowly.
A young man with a bare torso rushed through the Wheat Field.
He walked frantically, ignoring the pain coursing through his body.
His toes scraped against the muddy ground.
The pain did nothing to lessen his mental frenzy; instead, it intensified his self-destructive tendencies.
He ventured deeper into the trap, moving toward the area where the purple light spread.
Stepping into the trap formation, he was well aware of its layout. Even in such a moment, it couldn't affect his memory or performance.
As he ventured deeper inside, he soon felt himself getting closer to the Purple Light Sphere.
With the overwhelming pressure bearing down on him, the researchers wore increasingly manic smiles.
"Ahhh~ Please merge with me; I wish to understand you more," a chilling voice echoed.
A shadow approached slowly, its piercing purple eyes radiating coldness.
An aura of regal authority emanated from it, causing the researchers to break into a cold sweat, their faces turning pale.
"Hahaha~"
Then a loud, intense laughter rang out.
"God, I am willing to become one with you. I am willing~ I am willing to give up everything."
"To become the ultimate life form."
The Vassal paused slightly, then greeted him with a hint of surprise: "Humans, you truly are incomprehensible beings. Since you are willing to accept, then embrace this mission and become a part of me."
"Great God, I am willing, I am willing~" The researcher closed his eyes and opened his arms wide.
The Vassal's figure surged forward rapidly, its mouth stretching open with an elastic quality.
It resembled taffy, slowly undulating like a serpent.
In one swift motion, it swallowed the researcher whole, its form radiating the brightest purple light at that moment.
The gash beneath its skin gradually closed and healed.
Its jaw quivered rapidly, and in an instant, it expelled a human head from its mouth.
With a squeeze of its hand, it grasped the researcher’s head firmly.
The purple glow flickered, and at that moment, the eyes of the severed head suddenly opened wide.
“Come on, take me with you,” Vassal's voice was calm.
“Yes, my lord,” the head replied, its eye sockets deep and voice lingering.
Vassal held the talking head aloft, and in that instant, a sense of familiarity blossomed between them.
It was at this moment that Vassal moved along the predetermined path. He walked swiftly; the Wheat Field was only so vast. Vassal carefully followed the memories in his mind, avoiding all dangerous obstacles.
Just as planned, it felt as if a living map was embedded within him.
“Humans are truly fascinating,” Vassal mused as he observed the chaotic surroundings with hidden delight.
“Yes, my lord. If you wish, I can tell you everything I know. We can share everything; there are no secrets between us. We are symbiotic beings.”
“That is for later. For now, resolve the immediate predicament for me,” Vassal instructed. “Once this matter is settled, I will find you a suitable vessel for your rebirth.”
Vassal followed the guidance of his mind step by step.
Along the way, not a single danger occurred.
"Thank you, my lord," the mind responded.
At that moment, a massive searchlight swiftly swept over from above.
However, there was no response from the trap; this was not the kind of activity one would expect from a trap.
Those who had been waiting without hearing any sounds immediately looked at the Virtual Screen and said, "What’s going on? Why hasn’t there been any movement? Is there a problem here?"
Russell quickly asked, "Anis, what happened? Switch the feed back to see."
"Okay. I'm on it," Anis replied as she began typing furiously. "Only one camera is still operational; the others have all gone dark. It seems they were destroyed. I suspect Vassal is likely to break through our defenses."
"But the last line of defense is my personal death watch; I ensured he wouldn't return," Anis asserted.
A sense of foreboding immediately arose.
The sniper raised his rifle, feeling somewhat despondent, as a purple Light Spot suddenly appeared in the scope.
"Still uneasy; everyone stay alert!" Russell shouted immediately.
Behind him, more than ten hunters quickly sprang into action.
Unbeknownst to them, many were busy preparing themselves with calm determination.
"Ah, no, at this speed, we might reach the Awakening Path before long," Anis's voice rang out.
"Hmph, at a time like this, we can't trust anyone; we have to rely on our Iron Tool," Black Instructor grunted, gripping the Uzi Submachine Gun slung across his back, revealing its gleaming muzzle.
"Looks like that's the only option," Russell nodded, surprised that the battle would ignite so soon.
Previous thoughts couldn't keep up with the changes unfolding.
Following their current course of action, it was likely that before long, they would all be affected by the deadly deterrent energy field of the Vassal.
"I don't know if we'll survive this time, but if there's a chance, we need to prepare everything in advance and report the situation here to headquarters."
"If we haven't received a response from us by six in the morning, deploy the Kinetic Energy Weapon. We absolutely cannot allow such a monster to reproduce; with its power, it surpasses all Zerg s."
"Is that all, Commander?" one of the soldiers asked.
"That's right," Black Officer nodded slightly. "Now go."
"Go on," Black Officer added.
This time, everyone in the Third Investigation Team felt uneasy.
They sensed not only immense pressure.
They weren't afraid of death; it wasn't just the feeling of that magnetic field's power.
Fear stemmed from repressed emotions.
It seemed as if an unknown dread was enveloping them.
"Heighten your senses, stay alert at all times," Russell's command rang out.
At the same time, several hunters guarded the front, swiftly activating their Ability-Enhanced Armament.
"There will still be no threat; I will strip it down to its skin."
Anis gritted his teeth and said fiercely, crushing the cigar in his hand, his eyes filled with ferocity.
The greatest advantage this time was that everyone was on high alert. Compared to the previous two times, this preparation was much more thorough.
"Keep your eyes wide open! Don't hesitate! If you encounter it, hit it hard! The brothers of the Death Squad fear no death!" Black Commander shouted.
"Yes!"
In that moment, a sense of inevitable battle fervor enveloped the entire camp.
Everyone stood ready.
