Sitting cross-legged, with his breath becoming faint and erratic, Freyr was concentrating all his energy.
It seemed that the situation was somewhat better than expected. The Azure Blue Aura transformed from a particle state into a ribbon-like form that enveloped him. Everything around him began to feel out of place, as cracks started to appear on the ground beneath him. This was what happened when the ability reached its extreme expansion.
If Freyr were to open his eyes now, he might not see his clear gaze anymore but rather a pair of scattered pupils filled with the essence of wind, water, and fire, brimming with murderous intent. The Azure Blue Aura around him surged with layers of danger.
However, this layer of danger would gradually subside over time as he mastered his emotions.
After a long while, his emotions calmed down significantly, and the fiery heat in his chest began to ease. This heat felt like a blockage in his chest, preventing him from feeling at ease, causing immense pain.
Yet, this barrier could not withstand relentless persistence; it was eventually forcefully broken through, nearly causing him to spit blood.
After regaining some composure and consuming some rations, he entered a meditative state once more when someone outside urgently called out.
"Are you there? Emergency assembly!"
Who would have thought someone would disturb him at such a moment? Stretching lazily as he rose from the ground, he beckoned the person at the door to come in.
"What’s going on? Why the emergency assembly?" Freyr asked coldly.
At that moment, the burly man at the door appeared respectful upon seeing him. He must have witnessed Freyr's prowess before; now his demeanor shifted to one of deference, akin to a student feeling awkward in front of a teacher.
Once the soldier saw Freyr step out, he cleared his throat and respectfully saluted. "The White Silk Thread in Parcel City has been completely severed. Our Military Department is preparing to reclaim this city and hopes you can assist us in identifying all potential threats within three months."
"Understood," Freyr replied succinctly before returning to his tent to gather his gear. He quickly set off with the soldier.
The situation unfolded as such; however, the three-month deadline was still surprising for everyone involved. It was conceivable how vast this reclaimed city would be—enough to supply half a year's worth of rations for residents in the inland areas. The military provisions could also be adequately stocked, eliminating concerns about food shortages as an excuse for extending soldiers' service terms.
The soldier led him to an open area near the Military Department.
Here, many people had already gathered—some familiar faces among them—along with others who appeared scholarly, clutching research materials and accompanied by one or two assistants. They wore worker helmets while several assistants never strayed far from their shovels.
As the majority of the battles had come to an end, a fire had burned away the insect eggs in the city completely. Although satellite images still showed numerous life signs scattered throughout the city, they were few and far between, likely remnants of the insects from Sanctuary.
However, insects are still insects; spiders have a remarkable reproductive capacity. Just two of them can breed rapidly, forming a sizable legion within a week or two. While this may seem insignificant compared to the last confrontation, it still poses a considerable threat to ordinary people.
These refined Science Students, upon closer inspection, turned out to be researchers. The sturdy structure of the shelter was conceived by their superiors, and with their expertise in constructing shelters, they planned to erect massive walls around the perimeter once again.
This city sat atop vast underground mineral deposits, eliminating the need for resource conservation. Machines would replace manual labor to transport the minerals out efficiently. With a timeline of about three months for completion, they aimed to expedite the process. In addition to Engineers, nearly a thousand ordinary workers were hired—experienced laborers in construction, cement work, and bricklaying were all brought on board.
In less than a month, they expected to finish building the walls of Noah's Sanctuary in almost half the time it took previously. The Engineers felt pressed for time; however, their manpower was nearly double that of before. They had already anticipated that the reclaimed city would be suitable for agriculture and industrial facilities, providing these individuals with a chance at a promising future.
Moreover, alongside nearly fifty well-known hunters led by two Star Hunters—Medusa and Fetter—they were prepared for special circumstances as backup. Additionally, thousands of soldiers had appeared in the open area.
During these nights, Ramiel's tattered army had seen a significant increase in numbers.
Along with some original troops, many elite soldiers had been transferred from other allied factions, indicating great interest in this newly acquired city.
These soldiers were tasked with searching every street in the city. This mission could take an extended period; their goal was to support and protect the Engineers during the construction of protective walls while minimizing potential casualties.
As they moved through the crowd, no one paid them any mind; each group stood on either side.
Engineers remained with Engineers while soldiers and hunters stood apart, their roles clearly defined.
"Thank you all for your hard work. We will need everyone's cooperation moving forward and hope for a pleasant collaborative experience," said one of the engineering students at the forefront with flattery.
Others smiled amicably in response, expressing mutual friendliness. However, not all Engineers were so cordial; some had already begun whispering among themselves.
The engineering issues were left to experts while soldiers and hunters focused on protection and defense tasks. There was no overlap in interests between the two groups, nor did they need to concern themselves with each other's opinions.
"Do you all understand? Your job is to protect the experts so they can complete their tasks," Ramel Sergeant Major said as he casually draped an arm over an Officer-level researcher's shoulder and quickly addressed the soldiers below.
"Guaranteed to complete the mission!"
The soldiers responded enthusiastically. Perhaps they had already practiced their responses to their superior extensively; those few words encapsulated their intent perfectly. The silver-haired researcher beamed with joy upon hearing this, smiling even wider than before.
"Alright, alright, let's cooperate happily," the Officer expert replied with a smile.
"As long as everyone focuses on the task at hand and doesn't worry about anything else, it may be tough, but once the project is completed, you will all live in a place with land and fields. You will become legitimate citizens of the government, with your own homes. The living conditions here will be safer and more comfortable than in Noah."
The expert cleared his throat and added with calculated intent, clearly addressing some of the other workers. Typically, the workers' lives depended on their labor, and they merely wished to reside in a slightly safer and more comfortable environment. Their lives were quite arduous, barely managing to make ends meet.
Now that an opportunity had arisen, they could potentially become the first owners of this city. New citizens would naturally have a significant voice.
Upon hearing these words, the enthusiasm among the lower-tier workers was notably high.
"I’ve said what needed to be said. You all signed contracts and understand that this journey may lead to many unforeseen consequences. I must add that if any accidents occur during the three-month construction period, we will return your bodies home free of charge to comfort your families—your children and wives will also enjoy citizenship and residency rights here!"
The Officer expert had extensive negotiation experience. He gauged the situation and paused just before concluding, deliberately glancing at the reactions below.
One worker nodded, "We are all volunteers."
Immediately, other workers chimed in, "Yeah, volunteers! Enough with the nonsense."
The Officer expert smiled, "Coming here was your choice. If you're not afraid of death, then let’s get started!" At that moment, dozens of Heavy Trucks crashed through the curtains behind the makeshift stage, beams of light shot out like lasers from the front lights, and the roar of engines echoed continuously.
