Through the voice emitted by Xuanfeng, he suddenly grasped a detail in the rules that was not easily noticed. He glanced around, and the examiners reacted to his movement. It wasn't until he refocused his attention on the paper that their actions settled down.
Xiong Tai, on the other hand, appeared indifferent. The questions on the exam paper tormented him to the brink of despair, his brain cells spinning rapidly, pushing his concentration to its ultimate limit. All he wanted to do now was sleep.
Unable to think of anything, he set the exam questions aside. Apart from his name, the rest of the answer sheet was nearly blank. He laid his head on the desk and soon fell asleep.
A few people were still scribbling furiously, while others scratched their heads in contemplation, trying to figure out how to succinctly express their answers. The examination room quickly emptied; some were caught cheating, while others simply couldn't endure the content of the paper. After all, there would be another chance next year to receive an Invitation Letter, and they chose to gamble that next year's exam would be different from this one.
Half the time had passed. An hour felt both slow and fast. Freyr looked at the remaining 15 questions on his paper that he hadn't touched yet and felt increasingly frustrated: "Hmph, I have no clue about any of these 15 questions."

The remaining candidates in the examination room were silent. Even if they didn't know how to answer, they would at least scribble something that resembled an answer, just to have a semblance of a central point.
No one in the examination room spoke up except for one candidate who was on the verge of a breakdown. Suddenly, he shouted out loud, drawing the attention of nearby examiners. One Female Examiner approached Xiong Tai and said, "Please refrain from making noise during the exam while sleeping. The examiner's cold voice was piercing. Xiong Tai could only scratch his head and apologize awkwardly. Afterward, as his attention returned to the paper, he once again faced those mind-boggling questions.
After witnessing that commotion, Freyr could no longer bear contemplating further. He copied down whatever he could onto the blank sheet and then looked up at the ceiling.
The Ordinary Instructor observing him knew that he was clearly unable to handle the type of questions presented and seemed ready to give up entirely.
His thoughts had always been different from others; after all, he was a candidate with memories from 44 years ago—someone who had confronted death multiple times and experienced the world's ups and downs. Most of his daydreaming was spent considering his current situation and whether there were hidden rules within this assessment.
The first important rule is that cheating is not allowed. For questions that one has no prior knowledge of, guessing is unlikely to succeed. This creates a trap regarding cheating; if a candidate is found with a mobile phone, they will be asked to leave the examination room.
Continuing along this line of thought, could it be that the Hunter Association's assessment emphasizes the ability of hunters to gather information under the strict surveillance of instructors and examiners? This is indeed a skill that hunters must possess. Those who do not meet the standards may not receive an Invitation Letter next time.
This means that ultimately, what is being assessed is not just the answers on the paper. The fact that the last hundred candidates were disqualified shows that under such pressure, it is surprising to see some individuals confronting these questions and still managing to write vigorously. They tacitly accepted the risk of cheating, and in such circumstances, being able to evade the examiners' watchful eyes while finding valuable information is crucial. Typically, this approach also considers a hunter's intelligence-gathering capabilities, as being able to gather information in advance can significantly influence the reliability of mission intelligence.
So this is the purpose of the exam. In this situation, those who either do nothing or can make correct judgments are the ones who will advance.
Freyr pondered this and took a deep breath. At that moment, Xuanfeng's voice continued: "Here, I want to clarify an additional hidden rule: those who do not achieve a passing score will never become hunters in the future. This means that these individuals are not qualified to become hunters. If they fail their cultural subjects, it indicates deficiencies in their intelligence as well. The Hunter Team requires a competitive group with balanced abilities; hunters lacking intelligence may falter or even perish in fewer than ten missions."
"Therefore, the association has publicly announced new regulations. If you fail your cultural subjects this time, you will no longer be eligible to receive an Invitation Letter in the future. Although there may be reforms each year, this year's regulations limit those hunters who have faced excessive deaths during missions. The association does not wish for unprepared individuals to become sacrifices; you are the future of humanity. This time, I am giving you a special opportunity. I will ask again ten minutes before the exam ends: if anyone feels they cannot continue, they may choose to leave. There may be opportunities next year, but if you choose to stay and later receive your results with scores below passing, you will lose your qualification for hunter assessments for life."
Xuanfeng's words carried weight, stirring excitement among the candidates inside the examination room. All eyes were fixed on Xuanfeng's smiling face.
"How can there be such ridiculous rules? Who made them?" a man exclaimed angrily as he slammed his pen and paper down.
"The rules are set by the association; I am merely relaying them for your benefit. If you fail your cultural subjects this year, you will not qualify to become a hunter. It goes without saying that during mission execution, reckless actions will only lead to premature failures for the entire team. The turnover rate for hunters in the association is significant; moreover, they do not wish to recruit new hunters only for them to meet untimely deaths. Such occurrences are ineffective and merely send people into danger."
"Thus, plans may change as well. Additionally, remember the first rule of being a hunter: at all times and regardless of physical condition or weakness, any command issued by the association must take precedence over whatever tasks you undertake. Do not question why; hunters usually understand this clearly. You are still candidates and cannot yet be considered hunters. Now, simply respond if you wish to continue; if you choose to withdraw, you may leave now."
As he spoke on, the atmosphere shifted palpably. A wave of resentment emanated from one individual who said in a low voice: "Do you know how many opportunities I gave up to participate in this hunter assessment? You dare speak like this? I think you're nothing special—don't get too arrogant! I've been working hard for nearly six months for this assessment!"
"Then you should know it's basic courtesy to answer properly. Do you understand?" Xuanfeng fixed his gaze directly on the man's eyes. The man looked ready to charge at Xuanfeng with his fists raised, but Xuanfeng remained unfazed and then sternly demanded: "Answer me—what is your choice?"
"Ha, there's no way I'm giving up my chance to become a Hunter. I refuse."
"I'll fight again next year. I hope I won't run into you again, Demon. Once I become a Hunter, I'll definitely settle the score for today." The man said, retracting his hand. After his emotions calmed down, he packed up his gear and left the examination hall.
