All the eyes of the people around Zhao Yang turned into a strange red.
They all stared at Zhao Yang, their eyes filled with murderous intent.
A figure resembling a Specter suddenly lunged from behind Zhao Yang, thrusting a sword at him. Without even looking, Zhao Yang's eyes suddenly filled with a mist, and the figure behind him collapsed with a thud, his body stiffening. Those with sharp eyes could clearly see the person's temple wrinkled as if something had drained his brain.
"What has happened to them?!" an Old Monster from the Tribulation Period exclaimed.
"It seems to be the legendary Forbidden Technique, which can completely control a person's actions. This Forbidden Technique is nearly irreversible. Wasn't this Forbidden Technique already destroyed? How has it reappeared?!" another Old Monster said.
"That Heavenly Genius from back then was upright and just. He was hunted down by everyone for practicing this Forbidden Technique. Many believed our actions were wrong because we killed a good person, but they didn't understand that once this Forbidden Technique is learned by someone with malicious intent, no one in the world can escape its harm. Right now, millions of cultivators have already been controlled. Even if we forcibly expend Divine Sense, we can only save one or two; they will either be killed or all perish!" another ragged old man shouted.
"This is bad; these people are coming to kill Zhao Yang! We must help him!" Long Xiao Wu said as she flew to Zhao Yang's side, followed closely by Yu Qingsnow and Song Baliang.
Countless people rushed forward. Zhao Yang wielded the Peerless Killing Sword, slaying ten with each strike, turning those who approached into mangled corpses.
Ice Snow Consort and Zhao Tianlang also joined the fray. The controlled individuals fought relentlessly, driven solely by the command to kill. Even Tribulation Period Old Monsters could not withstand the onslaught of the masses; several were torn to shreds by hundreds of cultivators at the Great Ascension stage within moments.
Zhao Yang and his companions clashed with many of the mind-controlled cultivators. These individuals had effectively become demonized in their minds, fixated on one word: kill!
Those in the Tribulation Period could not escape such overwhelming assaults from so many powerful foes!
Suddenly, a flash of red light flickered in Long Xiao Wu's eyes. She clutched her head in pain as scales rapidly spread across her arms.
"What? Xiao Wu can also be controlled?!" Song Baliang exclaimed in shock.
Zhao Yang patted Long Xiao Wu's shoulder, and Long Xiao Wu's eyes became clear. He said with a hint of fear, "Could it be that Yuan Lie has already entered the Tribulation Period? His Divine Sense is terrifying!"
"Temporarily seal your Sea of Consciousness to prevent him from taking advantage of you," Zhao Yang instructed everyone. Then he turned to Liu Rou and said, "Rouer, use my Divine Sense to locate him and hold him in place for a moment."
Liu Rou nodded. After Zhao Yang shared his Divine Sense with her, countless roots extended from beneath Liu Rou's feet, embedding themselves into the earth. If anyone's Divine Sense could penetrate the layers of soil to see those roots, they would be utterly astonished.
The intricate roots spread across vast distances, sensing every bit of nourishment and energy in the land. Every blade of grass and tree reflected in Liu Rou's mind. She was momentarily stunned; she had never realized that when a person's Divine Sense reached such a high level, they could sense all things, understanding their joys and sorrows, knowing they were striving to draw nutrients from the soil, wanting to grow and greet the morning sun.
She also saw the condensation of dew and droplets, the fluttering of willow leaves, and the sounds of flowers blooming and falling. She witnessed fish hesitating in the river before a terrifying black cave, and three fierce beasts attacking a giant python over nine zhang long. Finally, she heard the cries of an infant.
Meanwhile, millions of cultivators surrounded a few Transcendence Stage Experts. Dozens had already perished under the relentless assault of countless practitioners. Long Xiao Wu and Song Baliang, despite their numerous physical forms, could not withstand such overwhelming numbers and were covered in wounds. The Dragon Queen, Ice Snow Consort, Zhao Tianlang, and the Four Great Monks were responsible for protecting Liu Rou and others.
"I will use Forbidden Technique to kill them all!" shouted an old monster at the Tribulation Stage who had already slain thousands of Major Stage experts but still could not escape.
"Hold on a little longer! Can't you see that Rebel Son and his group are searching for the main target? Even if we use Forbidden Technique, it will be mutually assured destruction. Just wait a bit longer!" another elder yelled.
"Brother Zhao Yang, I've found him!" Liu Rou suddenly exclaimed as her eyes lit up with an enchanting glow while looking toward a distant direction.
Zhao Yang lightly tapped Liu Rou's heavenly spirit point and instantly knew Yuan Lie's location. Using Time Walk, he appeared behind Yuan Lie, who was still immobilized by Liu Rou's charm technique.
Zhao Yang pointed at Yuan Lie's back, and immediately a plume of blood mist erupted from Yuan Lie's chest. He spat out a mouthful of blood and stumbled to the ground.
"Zhao Yang, it's you!" Yuan Lie gasped, clutching his chest with blood trickling from his mouth as he glared fiercely at Zhao Yang.
Zhao Yang remained expressionless and asked coldly, "Do you have anything to say before you die?"
"Stop acting so high and mighty!" Yuan Lie roared. "You, a worthless fool who grew up relying on drugs, a simpleton who rose through family connections, Rebel Son, hahahaha, to me, you're nothing but a softie!"
Zhao Yang replied, "I don't know where you got the idea that I'm acting high and mighty or that I'm just a fool relying on my family. I can only say that your class hatred is misplaced; my upbringing wasn't much better than yours."
"You're just putting on an act." Yuan Lie spat blood and continued, "Born into the Zhao Clan Imperial Family, a disciple of the Divine Monkey under Buddha's Palm Mountain, and your sect is Xuanfo Temple. Am I right or wrong?"
Zhao Yang nodded. "Right."
Yuan Lie said, "If it weren't for the endless Elixirs, would you be my match?"
Zhao Yang shook his head. "Mostly not, but you're still going to die at my hands."
Yuan Lie exclaimed, "I only hate that I was born lowly; otherwise, with my talent, I would surely be the greatest of all time. Killing you would be as easy as slaughtering a dog!"
Hearing Yuan Lie's words made Zhao Yang laugh out loud.
"What are you laughing at?" Yuan Lie shouted angrily.
"I'm laughing at your ignorance, laughing at how you're the dumbest opponent I've ever encountered among all those at my level," Zhao Yang sighed. "Yuan Lie, oh Yuan Lie, you only know I'm from the Zhao Clan Imperial Family, but what you don't know is that I've only been there once and even fought with them. You only know I'm a disciple of the Divine Monkey and learned his unparalleled techniques, but you don't realize he gave me a Chaotic Root with hundreds of different Spiritual Roots. The difficulty of cultivation is immense; while others succeed in foundation building in a month, I struggled for three years. My early Elixirs were all taken by force; later on, I found them through a treasured item. There were times when I risked my life to harvest Holy Medicine guarded by spirit snakes and giant pythons. It wasn't because of any family or the Divine Monkey; the Transform into Sheep Technique he taught me can only be used three times a day. When I was still at the Foundation Establishment Stage, there were tens of thousands of people with higher cultivation levels hunting me down. Do you think if I relied on protection to grow up, I'd still be alive today?"
Zhao Yang laid it all out for Yuan Lie.
"I once investigated your background; you lived in a place filled with hardship and poverty where it was incredibly difficult to produce a cultivator. Yet you emerged from that desolate place. Once you entered the outside world, you realized that relying solely on your own strength to cultivate and stand out was even harder than climbing to the heavens. So you worked tirelessly studying every Cultivation Note you came across, getting recommended by various sects until you finally reached one of the Five Major Sects—the Overlord Sect—becoming an Overlord Saint Child. You even obtained a long-lost Forbidden Technique. Ever since the Haotian Secret Realm incident and the Battle of Tianji Mountain, you've wanted to kill me. To achieve this goal, you've even fallen into demonic ways, killing countless skilled cultivators to absorb their power just to reach your current level. Isn't that right?"
"And so what? Do you think just because you have connections I can't kill you? Almost everyone in this world has already fallen under my control through Divine Sense; do you really think killing me will give you control over them?" Yuan Lie screamed in desperation.
Zhao Yang sighed, secretly relieved that he had not killed Yuan Lie; otherwise, the people of this world would have become mere walking corpses.
He opened his Sea of Consciousness, allowing Yuan Lie to see within. Yuan Lie felt as if his Divine Sense was suddenly sucked into a black hole. Inside that void, he witnessed various scenes from Zhao Yang's life—struggling on the edge of life and death time and again, being suppressed and resisting repeatedly. Yuan Lie also saw Zhao Yang's helpless gaze before jumping off a bridge and the moment when his uncle forced him to commit suicide, trembling with grievance and unable to speak.
"How could this be? You're lying to me!" Yuan Lie's emotions were stirred.
"I told you, you are hating the wrong person," Zhao Yang replied. "Every result has its cause. Back when I was still that Bald Boy in the Haotian Secret Realm, you Holy Sons looked down on me just the same. When one is in a high position, they naturally view those of lower status with a superior eye; I have never done that. I, Zhao Yang, treat others without regard for their background or talent. I repay kindness and seek revenge for grievances. The reason I target you is that you killed people from Xuanfo Temple, not because you destroyed your own sect. I have never claimed to be righteous, but you have turned the world into walking corpses, killing so many innocents. If you think this will make me feel guilty, you are mistaken. As long as they are not my relatives or friends, I can pretend not to see them. I want you to see this world through my eyes; if you do not lift their Mind Control by the time I Ascend, it will be the day they all turn to dust."
After finishing his words, Zhao Yang opened his Divine Sense and shared it with Yuan Lie. Yuan Lie's Divine Sense was like a primordial giant beast, always on the verge of exploding. However, upon encountering Zhao Yang's Divine Sense, it suddenly became gentle. It was as if he instantly understood the thoughts and feelings of all things; he saw white clouds in a clear sky, fish and shrimp in rivers, and the traces left by wind blowing across grasslands.
He could feel every change in the Five Elements Continent—the grass and trees—and even remembered the face of his mother whom he had forgotten for many years.
Meanwhile, at the center of the distant battlefield, Liu Rou's roots continued to extend into the earth, suddenly reaching the Southern Domain Demon Clan and connecting with the roots of the Heavenly Tree.
Liu Rou seemed to experience a thunderclap; at the moment she touched the Heavenly Tree, she learned many things that had transpired since the birth of the Five Elements Continent.
Zhao Yang sensed Liu Rou's excited emotions from afar. To focus on Yuan Lie, his Divine Sense was now connected with Liu Rou. He immediately retracted his Divine Sense to prevent any issues for Liu Rou. Just as Zhao Yang withdrew his Divine Sense, tears streamed down Yuan Lie's face.
"Go ahead and do it," Yuan Lie pleaded for death.
Zhao Yang turned and flew away.
"Everyone makes mistakes. I gave Shiyunsheng a chance; similarly, I give you a chance as well—whether to exterminate humanity or spare them a path to survival is up to you."
Yuan Lie stood there in a daze as he listened to Zhao Yang's words. In fact, before Zhao Yang left, he had already lifted the Mind Control on countless people across the Five Elements Continent. He did not know whether Zhao Yang was aware of this, but ultimately Zhao Yang had let him go, despite him having caused trouble repeatedly in the past.
Yuan Lie cried as he witnessed the growth of all things, realizing that everyone had their own story and that life continued endlessly.
"Rebel Son truly lives up to his name," Yuan Lie finally let go of his obsession and said sincerely.
Nearby, millions of people who had been under Mind Control regained their clarity. They looked around in panic at the mountains of corpses and rivers of blood surrounding them.
Some individuals began to shout Rebel Son's name, knowing that he had succeeded.
In the place where Zhao Yang had been moments ago, a shadow suddenly appeared. The figure wore a long black robe, and their face was obscured by a hood, making it impossible to see their features. In a hoarse voice, they said, "Hehe, just because Rebel Son let you go doesn’t mean I will spare you!"
Upon seeing the shadow, Yuan Lie turned and ran. He called out to a powerful expert at the front of Xuanfo Temple who was under Mind Control, "Zhao Yang, save me!"
The person's eyes flashed red, and as everyone saw this, they prepared to act. Zhao Yang furrowed his brow and stopped them, asking the person controlled by Yuan Lie, "What happened?"
But suddenly, the red light in that person's eyes faded away, and they collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.
Zhao Yang tore through the void and returned along the same path. However, when he saw Yuan Lie, he realized that Yuan Lie was in an extremely dire state. His Divine Soul had been extinguished, his abdomen caved in, and a faint black mist surrounded him. This black mist became highly active upon encountering Zhao Yang's Chaos True Qi, eagerly devouring it. Zhao Yang waved his hand to purify the black mist completely and snorted, "Shiyunsheng, you are seeking death!"
Zhao Yang followed Shiyunsheng's aura into the distance. His ability to traverse the void had become incredibly proficient; even if Shiyunsheng sprouted wings, he could not escape Zhao Yang's grasp. However, when he reached a perilous mountainous area, Shiyunsheng's aura suddenly vanished. He looked up to see Central Sovereign and Consort of Rain engaged in a fierce battle. Both were covered in blood; Consort of Rain's hair was somewhat disheveled while Central Sovereign was clearly not faring much better, coughing up blood continuously.
