"Brother Ji, if it weren't for you always protecting me, I, Zhao Yang, probably wouldn't even be able to leave the Myriad Spirit Sect!" Zhao Yang said.
"Oh? You make our Myriad Spirit Sect sound like a den of dragons and tigers. Where am I supposed to put my face as a former sect master?" Ji Wudao replied, feeling a bit embarrassed.
"You were a troublemaker back in the day!" the Grand Elder criticized. Ji Wudao had come to the Myriad Spirit Sect at a very young age and was practically raised by him. To Ji Wudao, the Grand Elder was like a father, so he had to listen obediently to his criticisms.
Zhao Yang and Ji Wudao laughed heartily, quickly agreeing with the Grand Elder, fearing that he might get angry and hurt himself.
"Brother Ji, let me introduce you. This is my future wife, Liu Rou." Zhao Yang pulled Liu Rou, who had been silent behind him, to the front. "Rouer, greet Brother Ji and the Grand Elder."
Liu Rou stepped forward obediently and said, "Rouer greets Brother Ji and the Grand Elder."
The Grand Elder praised her, but Ji Wudao's expression darkened as he said, "I say, you brat, how can you be so ungrateful? I remember you liked that girl Qingxue!"
Zhao Yang coughed awkwardly. "Well, men are allowed to have multiple wives; it's normal. Two wives are fine regardless of their status; this one is just a bit more obedient."
Upon hearing this, Liu Rou's hand that was about to pinch Zhao Yang's waist dropped down.
"You're quite something! This girl is just as charming and lively as Qingxue..." Ji Wudao praised Liu Rou extravagantly.
"Alright, alright, Brother Ji. Let's talk about serious matters. Your cultivation fluctuations are very unstable. Is it because of the Dragon Pearl?" Zhao Yang quickly interrupted Ji Wudao to change the subject.
Ji Wudao nodded and said, "Not long after our great escape, I found the Dragon Pearl according to our ancestral teachings. I intended to give it to Wuxin to alleviate my guilt towards my master, Demon Hunter Supreme. But who would have thought that the Dragon Pearl would emerge from the ground and directly fuse with me? I couldn't force it out at all. After that, the Dragon Pearl burned through my meridians day and night; I could hardly bear it and almost took my own life. But thinking of the vengeance against Myriad Spirit Sect, I endured it for three whole years. My cultivation was forcibly raised to the early Tribulation Period by the Dragon Pearl, but my realm is very unstable; sometimes I drop back down to Great Perfection or even Nascent Soul Stage."
Zhao Yang was astonished because he remembered that when they parted ways, Ji Wudao was only at Divine Transformation Stage Great Perfection and hadn't yet formed his nascent soul. Now he had crossed over Nascent Soul Stage and Dao Fruit Stage directly into Tribulation Period—this was nothing short of miraculous! He never imagined that the Dragon Pearl could have such incredible effects; it saved him hundreds of years of hard work! Moreover, it helped him overcome countless cultivation bottlenecks and barriers; if word got out, no one would be envious—not even him!
But thinking about those three years of relentless bloodline burning that nearly drove Ji Wudao to suicide made Zhao Yang realize what a resilient person he must be!
"By the way, Brother Ji, you mentioned earlier that chaos in the cultivation world has already begun and that no sect will exist anymore. What do you mean by that? Didn't the demons retreat already?"
Ji Wudao furrowed his brows, his expression serious as he said, "No, the people from the Demon Realm haven't retreated at all; they've merely shifted temporarily. It seems they discovered something, though I can't be certain. What I can confirm is that the Five Elements Continent has suddenly seen an influx of unparalleled experts, all at the Tribulation Period level. Those at the Tribulation Period can faintly sense the presence of other Transcending Tribulation Stage Cultivators because a Celestial Root forms within us. If we don't deliberately conceal it, it's easy to detect. Not long ago, I witnessed a demon radiating Black and Red Light battling a Tribulation Period White-Haired Elder, and in the end, that White-Haired Elder was torn apart by the demon."
"A Tribulation Period expert was torn apart?" Zhao Yang looked somewhat surprised. "Doesn't the death of a Tribulation Period individual cause a phenomenon in heaven and earth? Was there any unusual celestial event at that time?"
Ji Wudao shook his head. "That's precisely what puzzles me. After that Tribulation Period cultivator died, he first turned into a pile of bones and then disintegrated into dust, leaving nothing behind."
Zhao Yang was filled with confusion. "In today's world, the only Tribulation Period experts are the Eastern Wilderness Sword Elder, Southern Domain Demon Emperor, Arctic Consort, and Western Desert Witch. Besides them are The Old Divine General of Zhongzhou, Central Sovereign, Consort of Rain, and a long-hidden Dragon Seeker High Priest, along with the Heavenly Joy Sect Founder I encountered before. That barely adds up to two hands' worth. Could it be that an ancient sect has resurfaced?"
"There are many ancient sects, but there can't be this many experts at the Tribulation Period level," Ji Wudao stated firmly.
"Could it be that Brother Ji's Dragon Pearl is causing you to misinterpret your senses?" Zhao Yang looked at Ji Wudao with some concern.
Ji Wudao shook his head. "I can distinguish between illusions and reality; those individuals were indeed at the Tribulation Period."
The Grand Elder listened to Zhao Yang and Ji Wudao's conversation and suddenly seemed to recall something. He spoke up, "When I was very young, I heard Great Ancestor mention a legend during a sermon. It said that there once existed a method in the cultivation world where one could seal themselves within Spirit Stone Sealing Technique or Divine Mountain Cave Heaven. When a Tribulation Period expert fails to transcend their tribulation and sees no hope of ascension, they would use such methods to seal themselves away. The way to break such seals is through the existence of Ginseng King Communicating or Reishi Immortality; powerful life energy can awaken them and trigger competition for these items. If one were to obtain these two things, they could truly return to their youth and vitality. It seems now that Reishi Immortality is certainly impossible, but Ginseng King Communicating might still be feasible."
The Grand Elder's analysis was thorough; he didn't notice that Zhao Yang was now standing there with his neck shrunk in, sniffing and pretending to be oblivious like someone with Parkinson's disease.
Liu Rou stepped forward and poked Zhao Yang gently, whispering, "Brother, it seems you've caused trouble again."
Zhao Yang lightly swatted Liu Rou's hand away and pouted like a child as he said, "Don't talk nonsense; adults are speaking—children shouldn't interrupt."
Meanwhile, across from them, the Grand Elder and Ji Wudao were petrified. They both extended their right hands to point at Zhao Yang with expressions as if they had seen a ghost. On Zhao Yang's chest lay a small grass doll resembling a white baby; its tiny eyes blinked curiously at the Grand Elder and Ji Wudao before defiantly pouting its lips at them and burrowing back into Zhao Yang's embrace.
"Is what you have really the rumored Ginseng Baby?" Ji Wudao was taken aback.
Zhao Yang pulled out the Ginseng Baby with one hand, tugging on its hair as he held it in front of Ji Wudao while the Ginseng Baby kicked its legs wildly and babbled in protest.
Suddenly, Ginseng Baby stopped moving and spat at the Grand Elder, who was sitting on a stone bench next to Ji Wudao.
“Bah—”
“Hey, you insolent brat! Can’t you be a bit more polite when helping others?” Zhao Yang exclaimed as he gave Ginseng Baby a hard slap on the backside.
The Grand Elder's face turned rosy and gleamed in an instant.
Ji Wudao observed this and spoke up, “Such a miraculous spirit communication with Holy Medicine; no wonder it has caused countless Old Monsters to revive. Zhao Yang, you need not blame yourself. The awakening of the Ten Thousand Year Ginseng King was inevitable and has nothing to do with you.”
Ji Wudao feared that Zhao Yang might feel guilty, thinking that this crisis was his fault. In reality, life matures naturally and will eventually fall; even if Zhao Yang hadn’t harvested it, someone else would have.
However, at that moment, Zhao Yang’s expression suddenly grew serious. The next second, a tremendous explosion erupted from where he and Ji Wudao stood, clouds of dust billowing around them. A sword made entirely of light was thrust into the ground nearby, its blade still surrounded by an overwhelming sword aura.
Not far away, Zhao Yang, Ji Wudao, the Grand Elder, and Liu Rou wore expressions of anger. Just moments ago, had it not been for Zhao Yang’s Time Walk ability and Ji Wudao being a master of wind-speed techniques, they would have been gravely injured or worse.
Approaching them was a figure whose silver hair shone like the moon and whose eyes glimmered like golden lanterns. Dressed in white robes, his movements appeared slow yet followed a rhythm of Dao patterns that suggested he could traverse Chaos with each step. It was as if he walked on lotus blossoms with every stride. What astonished them most was the sixteen swords of light that slowly circled behind him.
“Look at that presence; could it be the legendary Sword Saint from the Cultivation world?” The Grand Elder recalled the Sword Saint’s true form from his youth and remembered his aura—domineering, few words spoken, stern and unyielding, cold-blooded and ruthless. Now with white hair but still taciturn and calm as a deep well, he seemed to merge with all things around him.
“Leave the Ten Thousand Year Ginseng King to me, or die.”
