Nangong Wuxin and Scholar Xiu had both reached the ranks of geniuses in the cultivation world, yet attaining Enlightenment remained a daunting challenge for them.
Zhao Yang had successfully achieved Enlightenment during the Qi Refinement Stage, and he had spent over ten years at that stage, establishing an unshakeable foundation. Nangong Wuxin had personally experienced the power and mystery of Zhao Yang's Ripple of Enlightenment during their great escape. The Dao Fruit Stage marked a true watershed for cultivators; although they could not yet touch it, they could still experience the Enlightenment Realm of the Dao Fruit Stage.
The cultivation path was divided into nine realms: Refining Qi, Foundation Establishment, Core Formation, Transcendence, Primordial Infant, Dao Fruit, Great Ascension, Transcend Tribulation, and Ascend.
Only cultivators who reached the Dao Fruit Stage could attain Enlightenment; however, reaching this stage did not guarantee Enlightenment. Some individuals could achieve it ahead of time.
No one knew how Zhao Yang managed to succeed in achieving Enlightenment during the Qi Refinement Stage.
Since ancient times, while the path to enlightenment may seem simple, it also required a journey from complexity to simplicity. The Dao gives birth to one, one gives birth to two, two gives birth to three, and three gives birth to all things. To unify oneself with the Dao, one must complete the process from one to myriad. It was like the saying that to see through worldly matters, one must first experience them; without going through it, how could there be results?
Those who achieved early Enlightenment broke free from these Heaven and Earth Shackles, allowing talents destined for the Dao Fruit Stage to experience their innate abilities prematurely and listen to the Dao ahead of time.
In the history of the cultivation world, it was said that the earliest person to achieve Enlightenment did so during the Foundation Establishment Stage by accidentally discovering Ultimate Truth and Dao Trace, which triggered their Enlightenment. Such individuals capable of early Enlightenment were exceedingly rare; they could not simply be labeled as geniuses.
Otherwise, why were these geniuses unable to attain Enlightenment even after reaching the Core Formation Stage and Divine Transformation Stage?
Enlightenment was related to personal experiences and generally correlated with age but did not have a strict relationship. For an ancient being who had lived for hundreds of years, achieving Enlightenment would be quite simple. However, life is divided into stages; attaining Enlightenment close to death is akin to wanting a toy as a child but being unable to afford it—only to find that as an adult you can afford it but no longer desire it. A one-year-old who can write is considered a genius; if a twenty-year-old learns to write, they might be looked down upon.
Genius has always been a title reserved for the young.
Nangong Wuxin and Scholar Xiu had not returned empty-handed from their travels in the mortal realm; they had gained considerable insight. They did not take advantage of ordinary people simply because they were cultivators.
As they journeyed on, searching for news about Zhao Yang and others, they found no leads at all. A sense of melancholy washed over them; perhaps their companions had not escaped that calamity. After all, facing such widespread disaster was beyond what their cultivation levels could withstand—even the sect leader Ji Wudao might not possess that capability.
Later, they heard that the world in the Southern Region of Zhongzhou, known for its Thousand Miles of Scorching Heat, was influenced by a young man. Some even claimed that it was all due to that boy. The two decided to believe the rumors and set off to search for Zhao Yang, while also inquiring about Long Xiao Wu, Ji Wudao, and Yu Qingsnow.
During this time, they experienced quite a bit in the cultivation world—robbing and pillaging, accidentally entering brothels, catching thieves, dining and dashing, and bullying local ruffians.
Finally, one day, the Central Sovereign issued a decree calling upon all cultivators and sect members to participate in the Ten Thousand Methods Conference. They hurried to the imperial city and learned from a passing monk that Zhao Yang was actually from their Xuanfo Temple. However, they immediately dismissed this information because they both knew that Zhao Yang would drool at the sight of beautiful women and would never become a monk.
Little did they know, while they were downstairs eating fruit, they overheard someone mention a murder case on the third floor. Driven by curiosity, they went to take a look, thinking it would be interesting to see Zhao Yang since he was known for causing trouble. Sure enough, they spotted him standing in the center of a crowd, still as outstanding as ever, exuding an air of fearlessness. He stood there defiantly against the elegantly dressed Royal Third Prince, wearing tattered clothes that made him stand out awkwardly.
This led to an incident where Nangong Wuxin took the initiative to provoke trouble.
That year during their travels, Scholar Xiu found himself instigating conflicts with those he disapproved of more than once. Influenced by Zhao Yang and Long Xiao Wu, he not only became unafraid of trouble but also learned to indulge in leisure.
Zhao Yang surprised them once again by actually becoming a disciple of Xuanfo Temple.
During their time wandering through the mortal realm, Nangong Wuxin and Scholar Xiu considered whether they should join one of the Five Major Sects. Although some sects required a Single Spiritual Root for admission, most did not have such strict requirements; they only needed strong Combat Power to qualify for challenges.
However, Scholar Xiu possessed Three Spiritual Roots, which essentially rendered him useless in terms of potential. No one from the Five Great Sects was willing to accept him. Consequently, the young genius Nangong Wuxin would not join such a sect either. Some sects extended an olive branch, offering that if Nangong Wuxin joined them, he could bring his servant along.
Both Scholar Xiu and Nangong Wuxin were uninterested because they lacked nothing in terms of cultivation methods or elixirs. Their desire for a sect was merely for recognition; many gatherings in the cultivation world marginalized Loose Cultivators like them. However, it was out of the question for Scholar Xiu to become a servant due to admission issues.
In comparison, a free environment seemed preferable.
After meeting Nangong Wuxin, Zhao Yang recounted his previous encounter with Shiyunsheng. Nangong Wuxin was greatly shaken; he firmly believed that Shiyunsheng would eventually become a threat. If no one went to eliminate him now, allowing Shiyunsheng to grow unchecked would lead to unimaginable consequences.
Shiyunsheng was the kind of person who could endure ten years without establishing a foundation just for a Jade Crawler. He aspired to become the most gifted individual in the world, aiming to possess the perfect Foundation Cauldron. He was extremely cautious and prudent, always seeking benefits while avoiding harm, never taking risks on the path of greatness.
Because in the end, those who laugh last are the true winners. No matter how glorious one’s past may have been, death ultimately renders it all meaningless.
Shiyunsheng was indeed such a person—a formidable individual.
With Scholar Xiu present and Zhao Yang’s Chaos True Qi at work, Nangong Wuxin’s injuries began to heal rapidly. Within a couple of days, he was lively and appeared before everyone.
During this time, Song Baliang had not shown up.
Zhao Yang wasn’t worried about any trouble befalling Song Baliang. After all, Song Baliang was tough and resilient; even after being hit by hundreds of arrows, he wouldn’t even realize he had been struck.
The Sky One Tower could accommodate all cultivators from across the land. For instance, the second floor of the Sky One Tower was already filled with members from Azure Cloud Palace. Many sects were situated outside the Sky One Tower.
Above the Sky One Tower, an elderly royal envoy announced, “The Ten Thousand Methods Conference will commence tomorrow. All members of the Five Great Sects must enter Heavenly Mechanism Mountain, and all Loose Cultivators are also welcome to participate in the Ten Thousand Methods Conference at Heavenly Mechanism Mountain. This is your chance to change your fate!” His resounding voice echoed throughout the area, bringing joy to some and worry to others.
Finally, the Ten Thousand Methods Conference was about to begin.
