When Zhao Yang first experienced the arrival of the Enlightenment Realm, he could clearly see everything within his line of sight. Now, however, he felt as if he could perceive everything even with his eyes closed, seeing in a full 360 degrees without any blind spots—like a radar! He also discovered that his Divine Sense could focus on a specific area for detection. Currently, the range of his Divine Sense could only extend to about five zhang around him, which was sufficient to reach all the notes of the senior experts within the Secret Manuscript Building.
In an instant, it felt as if Zhao Yang had countless eyes simultaneously flipping through nearly a thousand various secret texts in the Secret Manuscript Building. He opened his eyes wide, feeling an explosion of characters dancing in his mind, his thoughts becoming incredibly active, as if his consciousness had suddenly opened a door.
Zhao Yang recalled a scientific discussion from his previous life that mentioned human brain development, stating that humanity had only developed less than one percent of its brain capacity. The already exceptionally intelligent Zhao Yang now found that his mental activity and the speed of neural processing could no longer be described as normal. To be able to read nearly a thousand books at once—was this still considered normal?
Zhao Yang was unsure how others felt after activating their Divine Sense, but he sensed that his state was certainly different from theirs.
After about two incense sticks' worth of time, Zhao Yang had grasped what he wanted to understand. Following the notes from the seniors, he began to manipulate his True Qi and felt the fluctuations of his cultivation level. He gradually raised these fluctuations and found that at his current level, he could only elevate them by about three tiers; crossing into the Foundation Establishment Stage was still beyond reach. Zhao Yang then slowly adjusted his True Qi to lower the fluctuations and discovered he could reduce them to almost nothing, barely perceptible.
A smile appeared on Zhao Yang's face as he tried to practice the technique for concealing his aura. However, at that moment, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his nose, followed by a sensation akin to being pricked by countless needles in his head.
"Ah!" Zhao Yang cried out in pain, gasping for air and realizing that his mouth tasted metallic. Wiping it with his hand revealed blood.
"What happened, little brother?" Elder Zhong rushed over upon hearing the commotion and saw Zhao Yang with a bloody nose and pale complexion. He exclaimed, "Overexertion of Divine Sense?!"
Zhao Yang felt somewhat weak and asked, "What does overexertion of Divine Sense mean?"
"Overexertion of Divine Sense means that your consumption rate and detection range have exceeded your maximum capacity. If you forcefully probe or fail to retract your Divine Sense in time, it can lead to symptoms of overexertion. Mild cases can cause ruptured brain meridians; severe cases can lead to madness. But you just entered and learned about activating Divine Sense—did someone teach you how to do it beforehand? You should know that it's best to activate Divine Sense based on the fundamental principles outlined in cultivation knowledge; otherwise, you might easily fall into someone else's trap and end up in a dead end. How did you learn it so early?"
From Elder Zhong's words, Zhao Yang realized that perhaps no one else had activated their Divine Sense simply by reading like he did. Thus, he replied, "I was ignorant; thank you for the reminder."
"Not at all," Elder Zhong said as he pulled out an enormous blue pill from his sleeve, roughly the size of an orange. "Here, take this Nourishing Spirit Pill. I've treasured it since it was given to me by the sect leader two years ago."
Zhao Yang felt a bead of sweat forming on his forehead as he stared at the enormous pill before him. It looked like it could choke him to death. If it weren't for Elder Zhong's serious expression, which suggested he wasn't joking, Zhao Yang would have kicked him in the face by now.
"One should not take what they haven't earned; how could I accept something from you, brother?" Zhao Yang chuckled, trying to refuse.
"Don't say that, little brother. You shouldn't turn it down. It seems your Divine Sense has only recently been activated. If it gets injured in its early stages, it could severely hinder its future development, even preventing its range from ever increasing. This Nourishing Spirit Pill can not only repair your Divine Sense but also enhance its growth rate. If you keep refusing, I might just get angry. Didn't I use your Red Essence Stone to break into the Core Formation Stage?"
Zhao Yang groaned inwardly. "That was two years ago; who knows if it's expired? The pill is covered in fingerprints, and I can't tell if you washed your hands after using the restroom. If I take this, I might end up poisoned or with a terrible stomachache!"
"Well then, I won't be polite any longer. I'll accept this precious pill from you, brother. If I come across any treasures in the future, I'll be sure to give you something in return!"
"Haha, it's good enough that you have that intention!"
"Then I'll take my leave now; I have some matters to attend to tonight. Thank you for your trouble today." As Zhao Yang stood up to leave, he suddenly felt a gentle vibration from the Spirit Pearl at his chest, emitting a faint warmth as if it were trying to alert him to the presence of someone nearby while minimizing noise to avoid detection.
Zhao Yang's expression changed as he followed the direction indicated by the Spirit Pearl. He made his way to the last row of the Scripture Repository hall and found a small silver object shimmering at the top of a bookshelf. He couldn't discern its material, but it was precisely what the Spirit Pearl had directed him to find.
"Brother, what is this thing?" Zhao Yang asked, noticing Elder Zhong was nearby and deciding not to hide anything.
"This? I've only taken over the Scripture Repository for two years and don't know much about it. However, I've been in the Inner Courtyard for over fifty years and visited this Scripture Repository countless times; I've never seen this before. It’s probably just some disciple's handkerchief used for wiping their nose. If you want it, take it; it's not even registered!"
"I thought I had found some kind of sect-defining treasure or something..."
Elder Zhong laughed heartily and waved his hand dismissively. "Who knows? It might actually be a sect-defining treasure! Take it; after all, you found it!"
Zhao Yang smiled awkwardly as he tucked the Silver Handkerchief into his pocket. Although he felt excited inside, his expression remained nonchalant. He then asked, "Brother, where can I find the complete version of the Universal Heart Sutra from our Myriad Spirit Sect? Is it something everyone can learn?"
"Of course. However, our Sect's Universal Heart Sutra is said to only have half of it. The first five sections are the Refining Qi chapter, the Foundation Establishment chapter, the Core Formation chapter, the Transformation chapter, and the Nascent Soul chapter. As for the latter parts—the Dao Fruit chapter, the Great Ascension chapter, the Transcendence chapter, and the Ascension chapter—they have long been lost. For our Sect, it doesn't really matter whether we have that latter half or not. The Spirit Energy of heaven and earth has gradually thinned since the ancient war. After all, we are a small sect and do not need that latter half anymore. It is rumored that it has been collected by several major sects' Scripture Repositories. Moreover, since ancient times, the fundamental teachings of cultivation in this world are quite similar; if you can surpass the Nascent Soul Stage, it would be just as effective to cultivate with another sect's heart sutra. Are you really hoping to ascend to immortality?"
Elder Zhong said this with a carefree attitude; he knew his own limited talent and had only reached the Core Formation Stage in his lifetime.
"If you want a copy of the Universal Heart Sutra, I'll give you one," Elder Zhong said as he pulled a beautifully bound copy of the Universal Heart Sutra from the bookshelf and handed it to Zhao Yang.
Zhao Yang accepted it graciously without hesitation and then bid farewell to Elder Zhong. As Zhao Yang left the Scripture Repository, the moon was high in the sky, and stars twinkled above. He flew away, feeling the Silver Handkerchief in his embrace and joyfully murmured to himself, "I've finally found a decent Body Refinement Technique!"
