"Let's give it a try!" Fire Wuyan said with a smirk. As he spoke, his hands traced a strange trajectory across his chest, and everyone felt a wave of heat sweep past them. The ground beneath their feet trembled, and countless streams of energy were drawn into the air, gathering around Fire Wuyan.
With a gentle flick of his index finger, the swirling energy coalesced into a massive fire dragon that roared and circled around Fire Wuyan, as if it were his battle companion.
"You've mastered the Earth Dragon Technique of True Fire?" Duan Wude frowned, his expression grim.
"It's just the beginning; I'm merely showing off," Fire Wuyan replied nonchalantly.
"Do you think that mastering the Earth Dragon True Fire can do anything to me?"
"Why not give it a try and find out?"
"Very well, then I'll test it!"
With that, Duan Wude waved his long sleeves, and seven Ice Spirit Giant Halberds appeared, each a foot wide, shooting toward Fire Wuyan with an icy chill capable of freezing a giant elephant. Fire Wuyan's robe billowed as two blue flames flickered in his eyes. The fire dragon formed from Earth Fire lunged at Duan Wude, arriving in an instant. All the Inner Courtyard Disciples retreated in panic as the fire dragon shattered the icy barrier Duan Wude had created, charging forward like a whale breaching the surface of the sea.
Duan Wude's expression shifted as he controlled the Ice Spirit Giant Halberds with his True Qi. His fingers danced gracefully as he directed them like a skilled musician. The halberds sliced through the air toward Fire Wuyan. In response, True Fire surged forth from Fire Wuyan's body to block the attack. It paused only briefly before shattering, but without any sign of panic, he conjured two flames in his hands. The flames expanded in the wind, transforming into several fire dragons that spiraled toward the Ice Spirit Giant Halberds. With a flick of his fingers, the seven halberds collided and shattered into shards of ice.
Meanwhile, Duan Wude also broke free from the grip of the Earth Dragon True Fire, looking somewhat disheveled with a few singed hairs on his beard.
"Since you're serious now, don't blame me for being ruthless! This is my strongest technique!" Duan Wude's face darkened as he pulled out a blue talisman from his robe. The talisman was unique, resembling a square brick covered in countless strange characters. As soon as it was exposed to the air, it compressed the space around them, causing everyone to feel an immediate chill that made it hard to breathe.
"Dao Treasure—Ice Soul Seal." Fire Wuyan recognized what Duan Wude held and could no longer maintain his composure; his expression turned tense as he prepared for an all-out battle.
"Big Brother, we are here to help you!" Hong Wushou and Ji Wuyou flew in, standing on either side of Fire Wuyan. Fire Wuyan did not refuse, his gaze fierce and ready for battle.
Duan Wude let out a cold snort, reciting a spell. A boiling sphere of ice energy, the Ice Soul Seal, appeared in his palm, instantly magnifying to the size of a towering mountain as it crashed toward the three Outer Sect elders.
With a thunderous roar, the air twisted, and vegetation disintegrated as countless shards of cold light scattered. However, the Ice Soul Seal did not fall; instead, it was caught by an enormous Giant Palm that gripped it like a pebble and flicked it back.
Whoosh!
A blue beam of light streaked across the brilliant starry sky, shattering countless stars as it struck Duan Wude. Seemingly aware of who was coming, Duan Wude did not dare to dodge. He stood firm in the air as his skin split open along his arm, swelling several times larger. Countless rays of light burst forth from his veins, creating a terrifying sight that made his arm appear like a colossal diamond limb. What kind of person could make the Myriad Spirit Sect's Second Elder Duan Wude treat them with such caution, even resorting to self-harm to withstand the incoming Ice Soul Seal?
Bang!
Despite being as powerful as a giant spirit warrior, Duan Wude still staggered back two steps. Veins throbbed on his forehead, and the hand that had caught the Ice Soul Seal was left shattered and bloodied. Yet he did not utter a sound, fixating his gaze on the newcomer.
"Killing young talents and exterminating fellow elders to destroy the Sect's foundation—if I hadn't promised your master not to kill you, you would have died again." Calmly and dominantly, enveloped in swirling Purple Qi that obscured his features, it was none other than the Master of the Myriad Spirits Sect. He spoke just one sentence before vanishing into thin air.
Duan Wude's lips trembled slightly; he felt indignant. His eyes were bloodshot, and his facial muscles twitched, clearly pushed to an extreme level of fury.
"Ji—Wudao!" Duan Wude gritted his teeth with each word, staring at the spot where the Master of the Myriad Spirits Sect had disappeared, trembling as he spoke with a chilling tone.
The wind ceased and the thunder faded. The spectacle of the Jade Crawler emerging gradually dissipated, revealing the original colors of the sky. It was winter now; the cold pierced through to the bone, and soon snowflakes began to fall.
Fire Wuyan turned to glance at Zhao Yang, who had risen silently without speaking. With a gentle lift of his palm, he pulled Zhao Yang into the air. The four then ignored Duan Wude and flew toward the Outer Sect territory belonging to Yuwang City.
Duan Wude cast a cold glance in the direction where the four had disappeared, snorting softly. He turned back with his disciples, but after taking just a few steps, he noticed the jade cave on the mountainside. A faint aura of Spirit Energy emanated from it. He released his Divine Sense and swept it over the area, feeling a jolt of surprise. Maintaining his composure, he pointed at two of his disciples and instructed, "From tomorrow, this mountain path is to be sealed off. No one below the Foundation Establishment Stage is allowed to enter; eliminate anyone who dares to trespass. Others must report to me immediately."
"Yes, Master," the two replied in unison.
Fire Wuyan and the other two Outer Sect elders flew several miles before landing on a towering peak shrouded in mist. The peak soared a thousand feet high, providing a clear view of ten courtyards surrounding it, belonging to the ten royal cities' Outer Sects.
At this moment, the turmoil caused by the Jade Crawler had temporarily subsided. Although the Jade Crawler lacked offensive power, it had cultivated for thousands of years and had already produced a Dao Fruit, possessing extraordinary means of escape. Even Shiyunsheng, who first discovered the Jade Crawler's hiding place, had not anticipated its numerous escape tactics. After spending ten years studying ancient texts and setting up intricate formations to suppress its cultivation, he believed that the Illusionary Spirit Barrier would trap the Jade Crawler. However, it turned out that the Jade Crawler had reached the sixth stage of Cultivation, and the barrier was broken earlier by someone named Long Xiao Wu, rendering Shiyunsheng's decade-long efforts futile.
The moment the Flood Dragon emerged from the water, countless Flood Dragon phantoms shot in all directions. No one could discern which one was the true Jade Crawler; thus, they all pursued the one closest to them. The Jade Crawler was indeed the king of water; once in the air without water's obstruction, it moved at an astonishing speed that ordinary disciples could not match. Even Duan Wude gave up after chasing for several miles. Just as he was seething with frustration, he spotted Zhao Yang wandering around his deceased brother's former residence and felt compelled to vent his anger.
Most disciples were unaware of what had transpired in Yuwang City's Outer Sect; they only heard rumors of a rare treasure appearing. When they saw the Jade Crawler, they mistakenly thought they might capture a dragon as a battle pet, completely oblivious to the concept of Perfect Foundation. Those who were privy to insider information knew that Shiyunsheng was the first to discover the Jade Crawler. However, after its escape, Shiyunsheng did not display any signs of madness over losing a treasure; instead, he expressionlessly surveyed everyone before calmly returning to his disciples' quarters as if he felt no regret over wasting ten years of effort.
"Indeed, a cultivator without a Spiritual Root can only reach Qi Refinement Stage at most; isn't it delusional to think about establishing a foundation?" someone scoffed.
"Yes, throughout history there have been many prodigies who shone brightly in their youth but faded into mediocrity as they grew older—such a pity."
"I've heard that the Jade Crawler is a naturally born sacred beast; its inner core can fundamentally enhance a person's cultivation essence, allowing anyone to establish a foundation with a high probability of forming a Perfect Foundation within their Qi Sea. Shiyunsheng reached the ninth level of Qi Refinement Stage at just ten years old; although he lacks a Spiritual Root, he is undoubtedly an exceptional talent. If he were to obtain the Jade Crawler's inner core, it would be incredible!"
