With fists clashing, waves of energy surged, and amidst the explosive sounds of runes, the Old Scholar was sent flying hundreds of feet away. His fists were shattered, bones broken, and veins bulged on his face.
I, on the other hand, only took a few steps back, blood trickling from the corner of my mouth.
Though the Old Scholar was Supreme and his Dao Qi more robust than mine, his strength paled in comparison to me.
Years ago, after consuming the Seven-Colored Elixir, I had already possessed Unmatched Strength while still at the Qi Refinement Stage. I could knock down giant trees with a single punch. By the time I reached the Core Formation Stage, my power had become Mighty Force; now, my strength could split mountains apart. With the enhancement of the Rift Path, how could the Old Scholar hope to match me in a contest of strength?
The Old Scholar stood up from the ground. Despite his broken arm, his Meridians emerged like vines from his body, rapidly healing his injuries.
Zhou Manman said, "Let me handle this; he’s draining your energy."
"My Great-Grandson, you truly are extraordinary to possess such great strength. I am impressed," the Old Scholar remarked. Suddenly, he dashed towards Douding, who stood in front of Qingliang Temple.
I stepped forward to block Douding and threw a punch at the Old Scholar. He rolled aside to evade it and looked at me, panting heavily. "You missed this time; young man, you need more strength than that."
"You old rascal!" Douding shouted angrily, clutching a piece of wood from the door and throwing it at the Old Scholar.
The wood struck the Old Scholar's head with a light thud. Since Douding's strength posed no real threat, the Old Scholar didn't even bother to dodge. However, the act was quite insulting.
The Old Scholar glared at Douding and said, "With your uselessness, you don’t deserve to possess Zen Bodhisattva; you're just occupying space without contributing."
As he spoke, he opened and closed his palm, causing the void to split open. A fierce blade of void energy slashed toward Douding. I flew down the mountain with Douding in my arms and handed him over to Yunxi.
The Old Scholar stood atop the mountain watching us. With two fingers together on his right hand, he unleashed a wave of sword energy aimed at us. I raised my hand and shattered his sword energy with force. The Old Scholar smirked wickedly as red light flickered in his eyes. At that moment, we all clutched our heads and screamed in agony.
Douding cried out loudly, pressing on his temples. "It hurts so much!"
Zhou Manman immediately used Renewal of Withered Trees' Dao Qi to heal Douding's injured brain nerves.
I shook my head in a daze and looked at the Old Scholar. "The Yang Family Book in your hands is truly a tool for evil."
Old Scholar laughed heartily and said, "If you can't win, you can't win. It's pointless to talk back now. I'll say it again: hand over the Book of Life and Death. I can spare you Immortal."
I replied, "That's fine, but you must release them first and give me the Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen. I need to erase my friend's name."
"Dream on!" Old Scholar scoffed, electricity crackling around him. He unleashed a powerful strike towards us.
I raised my hand to meet it, sending the three of them flying to the ground. Old Scholar soared through the air, and Zhou Manman sprang up, her feet surrounded by blooming lotuses as she charged forward, delicately plucking a flower with her jade-like hand and striking at Old Scholar.
"You overestimate yourself!" Old Scholar said disdainfully, slapping towards Zhou Manman.
Zhou Manman was sent flying backward. She crashed into the ground but crawled out of the pit, blood trickling from her mouth. Then she drew a mark in her palm, causing Old Scholar to look at his own hand in confusion, where a similar mark appeared.
With a loud explosion, Old Scholar's right hand shattered, two fingers blown off.
He screamed in agony, roaring, "You wretched woman, I will kill you!"
As he spoke, he suddenly raised his left palm, dark energy flooding into it. The entire Qingliang Mountain was instantly shrouded in darkness as countless strands of black Ghostly Energy converged and surged toward Zhou Manman.
I leaped in front of Zhou Manman, calling upon the dark power of the Book of Life and Death. Black characters appeared on my hands, swirling as the Ghostly Energy was drawn into my body.
"You’re seeking death!" Old Scholar waved his hand, causing the Ghostly Energy within me to explode, injuring my internal organs and rupturing my Meridians. My body turned dark as my breath weakened.
Looking at my weakened state, Old Scholar said, "That's enough. This time I want to see if you have any strength left to use your Evil Weapon!"
As he spoke, he manipulated the Great Zhou Compass in his hand. The light shadows on the compass floated in the air, forming a massive rune matrix with each rune radiating immense power.
My Evil Weapon could destroy the Supreme. However, with Old Scholar wielding the Great Zhou Compass, which is the foremost Sacred Artifact of Taoism capable of reversing yin and yang, it could block or even redirect the sword energy of my Evil Weapon. Thus, using it from the start would be futile. Now that Old Scholar saw me weakened and nearly out of strength, he forced me to use my Evil Weapon. If I struck with it now, the consequences would surely be catastrophic.
I summoned my Evil Weapon. It radiated boundless Evil Energy, absorbing the blood dripping from my hands while emitting a faint sword hum.
I looked at Old Scholar and said, "Your Great Zhou Compass can counteract Song Qianqiu's Great Wilderness Scripture, yet here you are selfishly trying to kill me. You're asking for your own demise. If it comes to it, we’ll perish together!"
“Let’s see how you plan to perish together with me. Whether you strike or not, you will die!” the Old Scholar declared.
I gasped for breath and activated the Phantom Layers of the Emei Sect. In the blink of an eye, thousands of clones surrounded the Old Scholar. Gritting my teeth, I raised the Evil Weapon.
The Old Scholar was immobilized, trapped in a frozen void, his fingers already resting on the Great Zhou Compass. As soon as I raised my sword, he could pinpoint my location and use the Great Zhou Compass to teleport away. But at that moment, with thousands of clones attacking and countless sword lights from the Evil Weapon slicing through the air, the Old Scholar was filled with rage. He swiftly manipulated the Great Zhou Compass, dispelling the vast Void Array Pattern surrounding Qingliang Mountain, then activated it again, vanishing from sight and reappearing thousands of feet away.
I suddenly withdrew the supreme sword aura from the Evil Weapon, causing my clones to dissipate. I turned back and grabbed Zhou Manman and Douding by their waists, using Time Walk to plunge into the void.
The Old Scholar stomped his foot in frustration. Just as he was about to shout, our three figures plummeted from the sky nearby.
A mix of shock, joy, and an inscrutable expression flashed across the Old Scholar's face. “Running out of energy?”
I panted heavily, my body convulsing as I collapsed to the ground.
“At this moment, the Injury of the Dao has erupted; it wants to take my life,” I said with a pale face.
Zhou Manman and Douding helped me up. Douding stood tall, fists clenched as he glared at the Old Scholar.
The Old Scholar laughed heartily, nearly choking on his mirth. “After all that effort, you jumped back here again. It would have been better to do this from the start; you’ve wasted my time and your own energy.”
The Old Scholar reached out his right hand toward me. I flew through the air toward him and felt his grip tighten around my throat.
“Let Yang Hao go!” Douding shouted as he charged up the slope toward the Old Scholar. The Old Scholar kicked Douding down the hill; he clutched his abdomen in pain, blood spilling from his mouth.
Zhou Manman leaped into action, employing Mount Meru Divine Art. As she transformed, Sumeru Runes surrounded her as she struck toward the Old Scholar.
The Old Scholar waved his sleeve, unleashing a thunderous hand that sent Zhou Manman flying backward, blood gushing from her mouth.
“Let him go!” Zhou Manman cried out fiercely, tears brimming in her eyes.
The Old Scholar ignored her and pulled out an ancient iron pen inscribed with seals from his robe—it was none other than the Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen.
The Old Scholar held the Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen, chanting incantations as the pen trembled, emitting a black glow. At the same time, my blood and bones shifted within me, my Soul quivered, and the Book of Life and Death was slowly drawn out of my body.
The Book of Life and Death had merged with me after being sealed and blood-sacrificed; if it were to be removed now, I would soon meet my demise.
It seemed that the Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen sensed the Book of Life and Death and became excited, continuously absorbing the immense power radiating from it. I struggled to raise my hand, reaching for the Old Scholar's hand that held the Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen.
The Old Scholar was undeterred; at this moment, I had no strength left to fight back. He continued to chant his ghostly incantations, intent on uprooting the Book of Life and Death.
The instant the Book of Life and Death was extracted, my life essence dissipated. The Golden Figure within me let out a pitiful cry. All along, it had been suppressing its desire to grow, striving to maintain my life. At that moment, cracks appeared on the surface of the Golden Figure, showing signs of transformation.
However, immediately after, the Old Scholar's expression turned to one of terror. He suddenly flung me away, causing his own arm to snap in response.
I lay on the ground, weakly smiling as I clutched the Old Scholar's severed arm and the Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen. Looking at him illuminated by the black glow of the Book of Life and Death, I said, "I can go with you; perishing together is still an option."
The Old Scholar gazed at his decaying arm in horror as it rapidly spread throughout his body.
