In next week's episode of "Compass," the battle between Rain Master Luo and Song Qianqiu is incredibly brutal. Rain Master Luo is severely injured and lost, while Song Qianqiu has also suffered losses, including Miao Shengnan and Sky Master, two of his Puppet generals.
Guo Daozhen continues to adjust the needle of the Zhou Compass, and Light Shadow reverts back, revealing Zhou Manman and Douding in the courtyard.
"What are they doing? Where is Yang Hao?" Dongfang Yuqing asked.
Guo Daozhen replied, "This is the protection of the Sacred Artifact for its master. The Zhou Compass cannot reflect the souls of the dead or their masters, so Zhou Manman and Douding must be speaking with Yang Hao. It seems they sensed danger and left early."
As Light Shadow vanished, Wu looked at the ruins of the courtyard where the words "Niujia Village" were inscribed and said, "They are now at Qingliang Mountain."
"Then let's all head over there. If Song Qianqiu can find this place despite the barriers laid out, it’s even more dangerous now that his minions are everywhere. Qingliang Temple should also be unsafe, and I have a bad feeling about this," Guo Daozhen said.
Meanwhile, in the Eastern Wasteland, Saintess Ji Yao held the Water Moon Mirror in front of her as a powerful Dao Qi surged toward her, swirling into a blue sea of stars. The starry sea rebounded, forcing an elderly man in blue robes back.
"The Taoist Sacred Artifact Water Moon Mirror? Are you from Zhongzhou Yaochi?" The old man exclaimed in shock.
Ji Yao smiled lightly and said, "At least I’m trying to reason with you. You attacked my husband and me without understanding the situation. The Star Observation Pavilion has been destroyed; there’s no need for the Sea Viewing Pavilion to exist anymore."
The old man replied, "I am a descendant of Pre-Qin Alchemists from the Eastern Wasteland and have never had dealings with the Central Plains. Why do you two insist on exterminating us?"
"You want to kill our son; do you think I would spare you?" Ji Yao said.
The old man's face turned pale with anger, his eyes filled with malice as he began to chant an Incantation, summoning the power of the starry sea around him. The hall trembled as the space became distorted.
A long sword sliced through the old man's neck, and his head fell to the ground. Yang Sanqian tossed the sword aside and said, "It's all taken care of; let's go."
Ji Yao added, "It is said that the Golden Crow originated in the Eastern Wasteland. Hou Yi's homeland is also here. There is a Star Sea Treasury within this Sea Viewing Pavilion; perhaps we can find clues about the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow."
Jiyao and Yang Sanqian walked towards the backyard of the Sea Viewing Pavilion, where there stood a Nine-Story Iron Tower. Inside the tower, the howling sea winds could be heard.
Yang Sanqian frowned. Dao Qi extended into the tower, and he said, "It's very deep inside; I don't know where it leads."
Jiyao replied, "Then let's go take a look. If we can find the Sun-Shooting Divine Bow, dealing with Song Qianqiu and the Old Scholar will be effortless."
Yang Sanqian nodded and was about to step into the Nine-Story Iron Tower when a White Shadow flew in. It was a White-Clad Elder, who said, "Divine Hero Couple, please wait; you cannot enter the Nine-Story Iron Tower."
"Who are you? How do you know our names?" Yang Sanqian asked, looking at the newcomer.
The White-Clad Elder replied, "I am Luo Yun, the Grand Elder of Ocean Viewing Pavilion. The deeds of the Divine Hero Couple have become widely known these days; first, you destroyed Star Observation Pavilion, and now Sea Viewing Pavilion. My Ocean Viewing Pavilion has always had conflicts with these two sects. Therefore, my Master wishes to befriend you both and has sent me to invite you to our residence."
"I see. But why can't we enter the Nine-Story Iron Tower?" Jiyao inquired.
The White-Clad Elder explained, "The Holy Maiden may not know this, but both Sea Viewing Pavilion and Star Observation Pavilion have fallen into decline. They were originally one sect but split into two due to a fierce conflict over the Star Sea Treasury. The Star Sea Treasury is hidden within this Nine-Story Iron Tower, but hundreds of years ago, it collapsed and connected to the sea eye. Anyone who entered perished; only Sea Viewing Pavilion has not made this public yet."
Yang Sanqian and Jiyao exchanged glances. Yang Sanqian said, "Thank you for your warning, Elder Luo. Otherwise, my wife and I might have already entered. Please lead us; we will visit your Master at Ocean Viewing Pavilion."
Two days later, on Qingliang Mountain, Douding and Zhou Manman were repairing Qingliang Temple. It had been some time since anyone lived there. Although Taoist energy surrounded it to keep it free from dust for long periods, some insects and spiders had taken residence, and wind and rain had caused erosion that needed addressing.
Last night, the three of us barely managed to sleep in the Disciples' Quarters. Due to our overnight journey, I felt somewhat fatigued and didn't wake until noon. When I got up and saw Douding and Zhou Manman drenched in sweat, I stepped forward to take over the work from Zhou Manman’s hands and said, "Manman, you should take a break. You've expended too much Dao Qi."
Zhou Manman had been using Renewal of Withered Trees to heal my injuries for several days now. She noticed that my Nascent Soul was wounded and unable to grow; it looked precarious.
"Brother, you're biased; you never think to care about me," Douding huffed.
"Alright, Douding has worked hard too; why don't you take a break as well?" I replied.
"You're just feeling better, so there's no need for you to be busy. This little task isn't hard," Zhou Manman said.
I replied, "Then let's work together. Let's clean up Qingliang Temple first. When everyone arrives, we'll have a new home. Also, I think the backyard of Qingliang Temple is so spacious; it would be great if we could expand it so everyone can live here."
"And we can build houses in Niujia Village too!" Douding exclaimed excitedly.
Zhou Manman and I exchanged smiles, but soon her expression changed dramatically as she looked into the distance.
In the far sky, the void trembled, and dark clouds rolled as a figure flew toward us—it was Old Scholar.
Old Scholar stood in the void, holding the Great Zhou Compass. He looked down at us and said, "Do you really think that escaping from Jiangnan to here will allow you to escape Old Man's grasp?"
"No wonder I had a bad feeling; it turns out you're here to kill us," I said, swinging my weapon at Old Scholar.
Old Scholar replied, "I do want to kill you, but I'm not in such a hurry to act. Song Qianqiu has taken all the Puppets to Jiangnan Courtyard, yet you managed to escape here. I suppose Rain Master Luo has already become one of Song Qianqiu's Puppets by now."
"What?!" My face turned pale.
"Don't let him affect you. Senior Sister Yu's swordsmanship is unparalleled; if she wants to leave, no one can stop her," Zhou Manman said.
Old Scholar continued, "With Song Qianqiu going after Rain Master Luo and no one else around, the three of you won't be able to escape. Old Man asks you: Did you kill my son Xuanzong?"
"What do you think?" I looked at Old Scholar.
He snorted and said, "Who else could have brought Xuanzong to Jiangnan in an instant besides you?"
"Since you know it's me who killed him, why are you still talking?" I maintained my facade while secretly sending a message to Zhou Manman to take Douding away.
Zhou Manman shook her head, her gaze fixed and resolute as she looked at me. With Old Scholar's current strength at its peak, if she left, I would undoubtedly perish.
I frowned and said, "There's no need for everyone to stay here and die."
Zhou Manman replied, "Do you know how many hardships I have endured since I met you, just to stand shoulder to shoulder with you in battle?"
All along, Zhou Manman had survived under my protection. Even when she was still in her Corpse Demon form, she needed my safeguarding. Later, after she rebuilt her body in Yaochi and during our journey to Kunlun, she always required someone to protect her. Her temperament was not as cold as Yunxi's nor as strong as Rain Master Luo's, but she had always aspired to be someone who could fight alongside me.
I nodded and looked up at Old Scholar. "Aren't you cold standing so high up?"
Old Scholar snorted and said, "You still have the leisure to joke at a time like this. Since you possess the ability to travel a thousand miles in one step, why not try escaping with them?"
I replied, "If I'm not mistaken, you've already set up a Void Array Pattern around Qingliang Mountain. Moreover, with the Great Zhou Compass in your hands controlling this area, why should I waste my efforts?"
"As long as you understand," Old Scholar said proudly as he descended. "Considering you are a Descendant of the Yang Family, I can spare your life as an Immortal if you surrender and let me retrieve the Book of Life and Death."
"If you truly have that capability, why not come and get it yourself?" I asked Old Scholar.
"You!" Old Scholar stood opposite me, a hint of wariness flashing in his eyes.
I said, "Even if my Dao Qi is currently weak and I'm severely injured, are you still afraid? Did the death of the Black-Robed Scholar make you feel something?"
That day, the Black-Robed Scholar had been turned into bones by my Divine Ability; as his original self, Old Scholar must have sensed something.
Old Scholar narrowed his eyes and said, "Do you think your awakened Divine Ability is useful against me?"
"Whether it's useful or not will be revealed when you try it," I declared as I stepped forward. A brilliant white light shone from my hand, heading straight for Old Scholar.
The Old Scholar's face twisted in disdain as he waved his right hand in front of him, conjuring a shimmering curtain of water in the air. He slammed his palm against the ethereal screen, and with a thunderous crack, the air shattered. In an instant, I vanished from before him, while Douding and Zhou Manman were sent flying backward.
I reappeared behind the Old Scholar just as he turned around and threw a punch, causing Light Shadow to dissipate. The Old Scholar was taken aback and exclaimed, "Phantom Layers?"
No sooner had he spoken than he felt the air around him grow heavy. Behind him, Zhou Manman’s long robe billowed as her hair danced wildly. Her palms came together, channeling the Fury Realm from the Great Yan Zhou Jing.
In an instant, the grass and trees were reduced to dust. The Great Zhou Compass in the Old Scholar's hand expanded, runes shifting as he teleported outside the Fury Realm.
"How dare you flaunt such trivial skills before me! Even if your master used this technique in front of me, it wouldn't trap me!" the Old Scholar declared arrogantly.
Zhou Manman smiled slightly and gazed into the sky. The Old Scholar followed her gaze and saw an enormous hand descending from above, radiating white light and carrying The Might of the Dao, crashing down with tremendous force.
The Old Scholar was alarmed and raised his hand to meet it. Mist swirled around them as a colossal palm imprint appeared beneath Qingliang Mountain, with the Old Scholar lying helplessly within it, deeply embedded in the ground.
"You actually learned my Transcendent Hand!" he gritted his teeth and said fiercely.
I replied, "With the Martial Dao Classic in my possession, everything you attempt to execute before me is visible to my eyes; you know this well."
I floated down gracefully and landed beside the palm imprint.
The Old Scholar rose from the imprint, his expression fierce. "I had no intention of killing you; you forced my hand."
As soon as he finished speaking, I vanished once more. Before he could even register my presence, my knee struck his chin, sending him flying out of the imprint. Then I suddenly appeared above him and kicked him downwards. Blood spewed from his mouth as the ground cracked beneath him.
The Old Scholar roared in fury, slamming his hands against the earth. Black and white light flickered in his eyes as I disappeared from view again. He quickly formed a seal with his fingers and punched towards his left rear. I let out a muffled grunt as I was blasted out of thin air, blood spilling from my mouth as I was dragged along the ground.
The Old Scholar snorted and leaped toward me in one bound, kicking me away. I adjusted my body mid-air and landed some distance away.
Zhou Manman fell beside me and supported me, asking, "Are you okay?"
I wiped the blood from the corner of my mouth and shook my head. "He has the Great Zhou Compass and the Divination Technique. My Time Walk is already ineffective."
The Old Scholar said, "If you have any other tricks, you might as well show them before you die."
Zhou Manman formed a flower gesture with her hands, chanting a spell, and suddenly, countless arms appeared around her.
The Thousand-Handed Avalokiteshvara Palm struck at the Old Scholar. He quickly dodged and retreated, as the ground was instantly turned to ruins by the impact. A Void Barrier appeared in front of the Old Scholar, and the Thousand-Handed Avalokiteshvara Palm crashed against it, shaking the void but failing to harm him.
The Old Scholar's right hand was surrounded by runes of the Ghost Gate Secret Technique. He struck through the Void Barrier with a palm. I held onto Zhou Manman and vanished from our original spot, while behind us, the Black Secret Script surged into the mountainside.
The Old Scholar followed us like a shadow, flying low to the ground like a giant bat, and punched towards us with his fist adorned with Demonic Patterns blazing fiercely.
I gritted my teeth and unleashed the Rift Path, shouting loudly as I struck back fiercely.
