On the surface of the Yangtze River, waves surged violently as a towering figure of the Mud Bodhisattva rose from the waters, its expression solemn, gazing down upon the living beings below. The Purple Jade Pavilion stood nearby.
A massive hand descended, and the Old Scholar stood on the river's surface, meeting it head-on with a palm strike. The force of his Transcendent Hand immediately dispersed the energy, causing the enormous hand of the Mud Buddha to crash into the river, sending torrents of water that swept away those standing on the shore.
The Old Scholar burst forth from the water, somewhat disheveled. He placed his right hand in front of him, forming an Incantation. Black tendrils suddenly appeared on the Mud Buddha's body, wrapping around it like Meridians.
The Mud Buddha took a step forward, causing floods and collapsing mountains. With a single punch, it broke free from most of its restraints. The Old Scholar, enraged, retaliated with a punch of his own, creating a loud thud as he was sent back several hundred meters, rolling along the riverbank.
Like a ghost, the Old Scholar floated up gracefully. He moved his hands in a sweeping motion, conjuring a Void Barrier before him. He struck again with a punch that shattered the void, causing the Mud Buddha to stagger backward as layers of mud fell away from its body.
Seizing the opportunity to pursue, the Old Scholar pressed his palms against the riverbank. With a thunderous sound, black tendrils surged forth from his hands toward the Mud Buddha. The Mud Buddha struggled but was ensnared by the Old Scholar's Ghost Gate Secret Technique. Increasingly thicker tendrils penetrated into the Mud Buddha's body, tightening around its surface as the Old Scholar declared, "Break!"
The Mud Buddha let out a wretched scream as chaos enveloped it; its body was being destroyed. I said, "Inside is Manman’s true form, Yunxi; freeze the river surface."
I soared into the air and punched toward the Old Scholar, who quickly dodged. The ground where he had stood cracked open into a Mountain Valley. Back when I was in the Nascent Soul Realm, I possessed Mighty Force; now with my punch combined with Rift Path, even Supreme beings could not withstand it.
The Five Element Sword flipped into my hand and severed the black tendrils entangling the Mud Buddha. The river froze over completely, encasing all black tendrils in ice.
However, at that moment, the Mud Buddha struck at me with a palm. To everyone’s eyes, it appeared as if a hand large enough to block out the sun descended and plunged me into the icy depths.
My figure vanished and reappeared before the Mud Buddha as I called out, "Manman, you must come out from within the Mud Buddha; the Mud Buddha Technique can give rise to Inner Demons. Your current strength is insufficient to control it."
Zhou Manman did not respond but instead launched a punch that carried icy mud and surged forward. I countered with my own punch; the Mud Buddha Hand exploded apart amidst chaos as I heard Zhou Manman's anguished cry.
Behind me, the Old Scholar smirked wickedly as he chanted spells. The mountains on both banks of the Yangtze trembled and rapidly converged while Void Turbulence appeared between them.
The Sword Elder swung his sword at the Old Scholar. Swiftly evading to a distance, Old Scholar felt Yunxi's hand press against the ice layer beneath him. Suddenly countless Ice Spikes erupted from below his feet. With a grunt, he waved his sleeve to break them apart as they shot toward Yunxi.
Huzi leaped in front of Yunxi, his body shielded by dragon blood runes, expanding the blood domain and shattering all incoming Ice Spikes into powder. Yunxi's Tai Xu Ling wrapped around Huzi, and just as the mountain closed in, they soared into the air.
The moment my fingers touched the Mud Buddha, Dao Qi surged within me. I located Zhou Manman.
With a powerful punch, the Mud Buddha's physical form shattered. Just before she fell, I dove inside the Mud Buddha's body and rescued Zhou Manman, while the Mud Bodhisattva's Form was crushed by the mountains.
"Manman, are you okay?!" I called out to Zhou Manman, channeling Renewal of Withered Trees' Dao Qi into her.
Zhou Manman opened her eyes and glanced at me before slipping back into unconsciousness. I knew she had always felt like a burden, which is why she revered strength. However, the Mud Buddha Technique was too extreme; it was incredibly difficult to execute fully. While it could exponentially increase combat power, it also posed the risk of losing control and perishing.
By the Yangtze River, Sword Elder, Dongfang Yuqing, Huzi, Yunxi, and I watched as Old Scholar floated in mid-air with his Daoist robe billowing. He snorted and said, "Old Man will ask one more time: do you want to join me in killing Song Qianqiu?"
"You think I'll cooperate with you? Dream on!" Before I could finish my sentence, a golden hand appeared from above. The clouds parted as the massive hand suddenly slammed Old Scholar into the icy surface of the river.
The ice shattered as Old Scholar flew out from beneath it. He looked up at a Golden Body descending from the sky, radiating a strange light that made it appear divine under the sun's glow.
The newcomer was Guo Daozhen.
Everyone present had enmity with Old Scholar. No one could ally with this old man just to eliminate Song Qianqiu. Moreover, Old Scholar possessed the Great Zhou Compass, Yang Family Book, and Spring and Autumn Reincarnation Pen; his threat was no less than that of Song Qianqiu.
No matter how formidable Song Qianqiu was, he couldn't control the situation like the Great Zhou Compass could. As the foremost of the Eight Sacred Artifacts of the Taoist Sect, it could perceive past and future events and reverse fate to alter battle outcomes.
Guo Daozhen had deep-seated hatred for Old Scholar and would never agree to him.
Old Scholar snorted again and said, "Daring to manifest your Golden Body before me? You must be tired of living!"
"Whoever is impatient must face the truth!" Guo Daozhen shouted as he struck downward with a powerful punch.
His golden fist, shining under the blinding sunlight, descended with force. The Old Scholar rotated his right hand, channeling a secret technique through the Great Void Technique to condense into an Array Pattern. As the Array Pattern spun, he too unleashed a punch, enhancing his Daoist Arts through the Void Array Pattern.
The earth trembled, and from a vantage point high above, one could see a beam of light shooting up from the ground, scattering in all directions.
Guo Daozhen's Golden Body was sent crashing into the clouds, his Soul Power dissipating. Within the clouds, Guo Daozhen's physical form plummeted as his Golden Body returned, merging back into his flesh.
Yunxi's Tai Xu Ling floated into the void to catch Guo Daozhen. After he landed, he let out a muffled groan, his body extremely weak.
"What happened to him?" Dongfang Yuqing asked, showing no signs of injury on her surface, yet her life essence was rapidly depleting.
"His Dao Body has suffered severe damage; he may very well fall here," Sword Elder replied with a furrowed brow.
"Protect me, Guardian! Do not let the Old Scholar approach." I commanded as my Three Souls and Seven Spirits dispersed, casting a Divine Ability to surround Guo Daozhen.
In the massive crater, the Old Scholar coughed up blood, his Daoist robe tattered. He chuckled and said, "Exchanging injuries for injuries? To flaunt your Dao Body before me? It seems even my most proud disciple is not much more than this."
The Old Scholar stood firm in the void above the dust and smoke. Sword Elder brandished his sword and soared through the air toward the Old Scholar, engaging him in fierce combat.
Yunxi and Huzi shielded me while Dongfang Yuqing activated her Five Element Sword to form the Five Elements Sword Formation, resisting the powerful shockwaves generated by the battle between Supremes.
Both the Old Scholar and Sword Elder were at the Supreme Realm—one a master of Sword Realm and the other recognized as a Dao Sovereign decades ago by the Daoist Sect. If it weren't for the destruction of the Daoist Command Token during Dark Turmoil, this generation's Dao Sovereign would undoubtedly have been the Old Scholar.
The Daoist Command Token was an heirloom passed down by past Dao Sovereigns, capable of exerting suppressive power over other Supremes and extending one's lifespan. With the support of a Daoist Command Token, Sword Elder would surely be no match for the Old Scholar. Even without it, with the Great Zhou Compass—the foremost Sacred Artifact of Taoism—in his hands, he was nearly invincible.
The sword light surged, sweeping across all directions. The myriad laws trembled, shaking the ages, as the two fought fiercely, neither willing to yield.
Dongfang Yuqing furrowed his brow, gazing at the distant battle between Old Scholar and Sword Elder. "Grandfather lacks sufficient energy."
In his youth, Sword Elder was competitive and eager to prove himself. However, after Dongfang Jiu killed his other eight sons, a deep resentment settled in his heart. Dongfang Jiu was his last son and also the father of Dongfang Yuqing; he could not bring himself to kill him. Heartbroken, he retreated to the countryside, withdrawing from the martial world to live a peaceful life by Peach Blossom Stream. He had not appeared even when Sword Pavilion was destroyed and Dongfang Jiu was killed, spending decades without cultivating. His progress in the Supreme Realm was slow; had it not been for Peach Blossom Stream being a Feng Shui treasure land, his powers would have regressed even further. Thus, when Sword Elder clashed with Old Scholar, whose strength in the Supreme Realm was formidable, he quickly began to show signs of defeat.
Within the Sword Formation, my Three Souls and Seven Spirits each formed different hand seals to cast ancient techniques, condensing Soul energy. Guo Daozhen's physical body had suffered too many injuries in the past; although his Dao Body had reached the Supreme Realm, his physical form could not keep pace with the advancement of his Dao Body. Therefore, entering the Supreme Realm was exceedingly difficult for him. Now that his Dao Body had been shattered by Old Scholar's attack, if he did not recover in time, he would soon perish.
The Three Souls and Seven Spirits gathered their Soul seals, returning their souls to their bodies. I pressed an immense amount of Soul Power into Guo Daozhen's body. He exhaled deeply and opened his eyes, somewhat dejectedly saying, "Even my Dao Body cannot defeat him; you've wasted your Way of Power."
As the Five Elements Sword Formation dissipated, Dongfang Yuqing retracted the Five Element Sword. I glanced at Yunxi and transmitted my thoughts to her. Understanding my intent, Yunxi activated Tai Xu Ling, which pierced into the void. Suddenly, the Cloud Sea turned crimson as she channeled the power of Water Linglong; the river surged like an Ice Dragon.
Sword Elder slashed out with his sword, creating distance from Old Scholar as the Ice Dragon attacked. Old Scholar surrounded himself with a Void Barrier for defense, shattering the Ice Dragon and sending it crashing into the river.
I summoned my Evil Weapon, pouring all my Dao Qi into it. The Sword Body trembled as everyone stepped back; the Evil Weapon radiated heat like a blazing furnace that deterred anyone from approaching.
I struck out with my sword; Old Scholar's eyes widened in fury as from a thousand feet away, the Evil Weapon's malevolent Way of Power suppressed him. Old Scholar hurriedly withdrew his void defense, attempting to escape into the void but found it solidified and ensnared by Tai Xu Ling—he could not break free.
Now trapped in his physical form again, Old Scholar's face turned pale with fear as he quickly summoned the Great Zhou Compass. Light Shadow spread like spring sunlight, crashing against the Evil Weapon.
Runes flowed as a crack appeared on the Great Zhou Compass.
Old Scholar was struck down into the ground, blood streaming from seven orifices and multiple bones fractured.
The Great Zhou Compass was renowned as Taoism's foremost Sacred Artifact; throughout history, many sought to possess it. Centuries ago, a Dao Sovereign who cared for the Common People deemed it too malevolent and used ancient methods to shatter it into pieces scattered across various locations.
The Old Scholar had wandered through life, reading countless volumes, searching for fragments of the Great Zhou Compass based on the slightest clues. Eventually, he managed to restore this Sacred Artifact to its entirety, but now, cracks had reappeared on the Great Zhou Compass. While it was a Sacred Artifact, its defensive capabilities were not the strongest, at least not compared to the Water Moon Mirror and the Everbright Lamp.
At this moment, Tai Xu Ling sealed off the void, trapping the Great Zhou Compass within. If the runes were sealed, even the Old Scholar would be powerless against it.
As the runes shifted, the Old Scholar's figure vanished. In the next instant, he collided with Tai Xu Ling's barrier and failed to escape. Nothing in this world was perfect; everything had its flaws. The Old Scholar was taken aback as he saw me raise the Evil Weapon once more.
The Great Void Technique coalesced above his head as he withdrew the Great Zhou Compass. In a flurry of movement, he activated the mysterious engravings on it, ancient characters swirling around him as he prepared for one last stand.
"This time, the Great Zhou Compass won't save you!" I declared fiercely, unleashing a sword strike that surged forth. The sword light cleaved through the crimson clouds, overwhelming mountains and rivers alike; before the Sword Body even arrived, rivers ran dry!
Just then, a figure suddenly slipped into Tai Xu Ling's barrier as if it were nothing. The Old Scholar shouted, "What are you doing here? Get out!"
Ignoring his warning, the figure approached him and touched his shoulder. In that instant, the Evil Weapon sliced through both of them.
The Old Scholar remained stunned, incredulously staring at the newcomer before glancing down at us with astonishment.
Their forms solidified from nothingness; turning around revealed Yang Xuanzong.
