Withered Leaf Master asked, "What level do you think Song Qianqiu has reached with the Great Wilderness Scripture?"
I replied, "From the images, it seems that no one of the same level can escape his bindings. At least Taihe Zhenren almost fell into his hands."
"Taihe Zhenren is already a master of the Mahayana Realm, comparable to our own strength. If he can be restrained, it indeed seems quite formidable," Withered Leaf said.
"Since Master has heard of the Great Wilderness Scripture and it has a significant connection to the Buddhist Sect, isn't there any way to counter it?" I inquired.
Withered Leaf Master shook his head and said, "The reason the Time Technique is classified as a forbidden art is that there is nothing that can restrain it. Otherwise, ancient times wouldn't have seen multiple wars due to various forbidden arts. You possess the Martial Dao Classic and have seen more than we have; if you can't find a solution, then no one can."
"In that case, thank you for your honest words, Master. We still have matters to attend to, so we will take our leave," I said.
Master Hai Deng remarked, "Why are you leaving so soon after arriving? Douding, why don't you come down and let Master take a good look at you?"
Douding, riding on Qiongqi, turned to look at Master Hai Deng and shook his head. The three of us bid farewell to everyone and quickly left Leiyin Temple.
At this moment, within Western Desert Sand City, a young man was sitting cross-legged in an Ancient Castle Hall. Behind him stood an ancient-looking Cauldron, around which nine dragons circled. The runes on the cauldron changed continuously, providing a steady flow of Five Elements Raging Fire energy into the young man's body.
In just a few days, the young man's cultivation had rapidly progressed from Nascent Soul Realm to Dao Fruit Realm, and his power continued to grow steadily. He was almost unable to believe it himself and had doubted several times whether he was going mad from his training.
Suddenly, a violent aura of True Fire of Taiyi erupted within him, causing the Sun Refining Cauldron to tremble. The Nine Dragons moved across the crowded surface of the cauldron, absorbing the turbulent Poison Fire within him. The young man's expression quickly calmed down; he was Nangong Lin, who had been in seclusion for several days.
Nangong Lin opened his eyes and sighed in relief. "In these past few days, the Sun Refining Cauldron has been changing gradually. The nine dragons surround it and continuously provide me with the maximum fire spirit energy I need. Throughout my training, not only have I not gone mad, but it has also saved me during several bottlenecks and moments of instability. No wonder my father has gone to such lengths over the years to find this Sacred Artifact despite offending my grandfather."
Just as Nangong Lin finished speaking, the large door of the hall suddenly burst open. A White-Clad Shatuo rushed in from outside. Nangong Lin was furious and shouted, "I've told you more than once that no one is allowed to enter without my command! Why do you insist on seeking death?"
The White-Clad Shatuo panicked and knelt down. "It's bad news, sir..."
Before he could finish his sentence, Nangong Lin struck him with a palm, slamming him against the wall. His entire body was burned by Five Poisons True Fire with a hissing sound until he turned to ashes in an instant.
Nangong Lin's face was filled with anger as he turned to look at the floating Sun Refining Cauldron in the hall. Such a precious treasure would surely invite disaster if others learned of its existence.
"Young Master, please calm down. I, Yu Youya, have come to see you." A voice suddenly echoed from outside the hall.
Nangong Lin was startled and quickly recited a mantra. The Shuttle flew out from his sleeve, drawing the Sun Refining Cauldron into it, causing the temperature inside the hall to drop rapidly.
Nangong Lin stepped out of the hall and looked at Yu Youya, asking, "What brings you here?"
Yu Youya replied, "Young Master, actually, the leader learned a few days ago that you are in the Sand City Lord's residence. You are young and accomplished, having taken over Sand City by yourself; the news has spread among the people."
A hint of panic flashed in Nangong Lin's eyes. "What about my father now?"
Yu Youya said, "After parting ways in Dunhuang, the Living Buddha awakened and wreaked havoc. I escaped with the leader amidst the chaos, but upon returning to the main hall, we found only ruins left behind. Therefore, we hid in a town east of Sand City. The leader has recently gained enlightenment and reached the peak of the Mahayana Realm; he is just one step away from entering the Supreme Realm. He sent me to invite you to come."
Nangong Lin rubbed his fingers together. "As long as my father is safe. I've been worried about him since our parting in Dunhuang. Lead the way."
Half an hour later, in the desolate outskirts east of Sand City, Nangong Lin suddenly asked, "Yu Youya, I suppose both you and my father know about my grandfather's fall?"
Yu Youya replied, "The fall of a Supreme creates signs; both I and the leader are indeed aware of it. The leader mourned for three days over this. He also wants to ask about what happened that day when you visit."
Nangong Lin said, "That day, my grandfather took me to a desolate mountain and soon passed away. He entrusted the Shuttle to Elder Meng Xuanjian."
Yu Youya urged, "Young Master, we should hurry along; we can discuss this further once we meet with the leader."
"Alright," Nangong Lin nodded, signaling Yu Youya to lead.
Just as Yu Youya turned around, Nangong Lin suddenly struck his palm against Yu Youya's back. Poison Fire invaded his body. Yu Youya turned around in shock to look at Nangong Lin, who said, "It's your fault for meddling!"
As soon as Nangong Lin finished speaking, Yu Youya was engulfed in flames; his face shriveled up as he collapsed to the ground like crumpled paper.
"This is bad!" Nangong Lin exclaimed in horror. "The Paper Man Technique!"
Nangong Lin summoned the Shuttle and flew into the air, heading towards the Central Plains.
On a mountain several dozen miles away, Nangong Lin gazed at the reflection in the illusion before him. Beside him, Yu Youya opened his eyes and said, "Master, perhaps the Young Master was just confused for a moment when he wanted to claim the Shuttle and the Sun Refining Cauldron for himself."
"No need," Nangong replied, raising his hand. His aura was somewhat chaotic, and a hint of anger flickered between his brows.
Nangong stood up from the ground as the illusion vanished. Yu Youya asked, "Master, what shall we do next?"
"Nangong Dao," he replied. "We go to the Central Plains."
Just then, a rustling sound came from the bushes behind them. Nangong and Yu Youya turned around, and as Yu Youya raised his hand, a blade of air shot out. It sliced through the ground, collapsing the bushes and revealing an old man surrounded by black mist.
The old man had sparse hair and wore tattered clothes. Nangong frowned and asked, "Who are you, and why are you following me?"
"Master, look at his eyes," Yu Youya pointed at the old man's eyes.
The old man's eyes were sunken, with rotting pupils. Nangong wondered aloud, "Is he already dead?"
Nangong Dao's energy surged back as he pulled the old man toward himself. The old man struggled, his hands forming an incantation as ghostly energy surged forth to attack Nangong. However, the ghostly energy dissipated several feet away from him. With a sudden grab, Nangong caused the old man's body to explode, poison fire splattering everywhere.
Behind the old man, a Ghost Talisman burned to ashes. Yu Youya said, "Master, is someone using a Corpse Demon to spy on us?"
Nangong Dao replied, "This Corpse Demon has been dead for many years; it must have belonged to a senior expert. Why is this corpse able to come back to life?"
"Could it be the Old Scholar's doing?" Yu Youya asked.
Nangong Dao explained, "The Ghost Gate Secret Technique was specifically created for researching longevity. It doesn't have much to do with the Underworld or Corpse Demons. The Old Scholar is highly intelligent and has extensively studied Daoist Arts principles; could he have started researching Yin Soldier Corpse Ghosts?"
As Nangong spoke, he noticed countless plants stirring at the foot of the mountain. From all directions, numerous armored Yin Soldiers appeared. These Yin Soldiers emanated powerful Corpse Qi; their skin was dry and wrinkled, their bodies grayish-white.
Yu Youya exclaimed in alarm, "It's Yin Soldiers! Ancient legends say that when Yin Soldiers pass through a land, they kill gods and buddhas alike. But aren't Yin Soldiers supposed to appear only at night? This western region has always been barren; where did so many Yin Soldiers come from?"
Without responding, Nangong watched as the Yin Soldiers charged up the mountain. Their crimson battle robes billowed as they burned with True Fire of Taiyi, quickly turning the entire mountain into a fiery inferno.
Numerous Yin Soldiers screamed in agony as they were engulfed by flames, reduced to ashes. Some powerful Yin Soldiers charged towards Nangong, who seized one of them and crushed its head with a swift motion. Black mist escaped from the soldier's throat, and before the remaining Yin Soldiers could approach, they were consumed by the fire dragon formed from Nangong's Dao Qi.
In the distance, the Yin Soldiers retreated like a tide. Nangong stepped into the sea of fire, followed closely by Yu Youya, the flames not touching them at all.
Nangong Dao said, "These Yin Soldiers' arrival is suspicious; there must be someone controlling them from behind."
Yu Youya replied, "There are rumors that in the Underworld, there exists a treasure called the Yin Soldier Order, also known as the Ghost Seal. The Ghost Seal can control all Yin Soldiers in the Underworld. Could it be that someone has obtained this treasure? I have learned that in the past six months, there have been reports of Yin Soldiers crossing various regions, and many villages have been destroyed."
Nangong's expression changed drastically. "Why didn't you tell me sooner?"
Yu Youya explained, "At first, I didn't take it seriously. I have been following the leader closely during this time and didn't notice any further incidents involving Yin Soldiers. Moreover, this matter hasn't caused much of a stir in the Daoist Sect, so I didn't mention it."
Nangong Dao continued, "Half a year ago, there was a prophecy from the Machine Wall indicating that someone would simultaneously obtain the Ghost Seal and the Demon King's Scripture, dominating the Daoist Sect and becoming the ruler of calamity."
"Is the Demon King's Scripture one of the two great books of the Underworld that is on par with the Book of Life and Death?" Yu Youya asked.
"Indeed," Nangong Dao confirmed. "It has been so long since there was any news about the Demon King's Scripture and Ghost Seal. I thought that when these evil artifacts emerged, it would cause some commotion, and we could seize them then. I didn't expect someone to get ahead of us so quickly. Moreover, the Corpse Demon that appeared initially was not a Yin Soldier; I sensed that he must have been an extraordinary master in life. After being resurrected by the Demon King's Scripture, his power was greatly diminished; otherwise, I wouldn't have been able to kill him so easily. It seems that the true master has yet to appear; they are merely sending out spies to gather information. We must quickly find the Child and retrieve the Sun Refining Cauldron; otherwise, it will be unimaginable."
