Far away, the Shuttle pierced through the clouds, hovering above the Western Divine Serpent Sect. It descended and landed on the ruins of the Serpent Cult. Nangong Lin's body was stiff, frozen by the icy atmosphere, his lips turning pale.
Nangong Lin stepped down from the Shuttle, gazing at the ruins before him, his lips trembling as he murmured, "How could this happen?"
The Shuttle retracted, enveloping the Sun Refining Cauldron within it before returning to Nangong Lin's hand. He looked towards the distant Sand City, feeling a sense of desolation for the first time in his heart.
Meanwhile, in a village on the outskirts of Jiangnan, members of the Emei Sect were practicing martial arts and swordplay. Miao Shengnan stood beside an old Locust Tree at the edge of the village, her figure flickering uncertainly, a faint white light shimmering around her.
"Master, what has happened to you?" Bai Xiaoxiang approached from behind.
Miao Shengnan withdrew her thoughts and replied, "Bai Xiaoxiang. Today, I feel great sorrow in my heart and deeply repent for my past actions. For decades, my skills have not progressed an inch, yet in these past few days, I have advanced from the early stage of the Mahayana Realm to Great Perfection."
Bai Xiaoxiang was overjoyed. "Master, have you attained enlightenment?"
Miao Shengnan replied calmly, "Perhaps so."
"I'll go tell this good news to the junior sisters!" Bai Xiaoxiang exclaimed excitedly as she ran towards the other disciples of Emei Sect.
Miao Shengnan revealed a long-lost smile, though her eyes betrayed a hint of melancholy.
After a while, the disciples of Emei came to congratulate Miao Shengnan. "Congratulations, Sect Leader! Your skills have greatly improved; our sect's revival is just around the corner!"
Miao Shengnan said, "You all have worked hard as well. In these chaotic times, you must strive to enhance your skills and protect yourselves."
"Yes, Sect Leader!" the Emei disciples replied in unison.
Not far away, Rouer and Wudao were huddled together. Wudao remarked, "It seems that the tomboy has made significant progress and is being congratulated. I bet her tail is up again."
Rouer pinched Five's arm and said, "You can't act like that in front of Sect Master Uncle."
"Alright, alright, I won't do it again," Five replied, gritting his teeth in pain while hugging Rouer, ready to cause more mischief.
Rouer struggled and said, "Let's go out and congratulate Sect Master Uncle. Also, you need to behave around the senior and junior sisters from now on."
Five looked at Rouer, pouting slightly, and laughed, "Okay, dear Rouer, I'll agree to anything you say."
Leading Rouer out from the hidden bushes, they walked toward Miao Shengnan at the village entrance. Rouer said, "Congratulations, Sect Master Uncle, on your significant improvement in power."
Wudao added, "Congratulations, Miao Master, on your significant improvement in power."
Miao Shengnan nodded and said, "You both have arrived just in time; I actually have something to discuss with you, Five."
"Me?" Five was surprised and thought to himself that he might be lectured by this manly figure.
Upon hearing that Miao Shengnan wanted to speak with Five, Rouer took the hint and gracefully withdrew back to where the other disciples of Arched Eyebrows were.
Wudao asked, "What is it that Miao Master wishes to discuss with me?"
Miao Shengnan replied, "I've made great strides in my power; I'm just one step away from entering the Tribulation Realm. At first, I thought it was due to my enlightenment and that I had a chance to join the Supreme ranks."
"Isn't that the case?" Five questioned in confusion.
Miao Shengnan shook his head and said, "My time has come."
Five looked up at Miao Shengnan, who had always been spirited and relentless. For the first time, he saw a sense of desolation in the eyes of someone he had always disliked.
Wudao took a deep breath. "What does Miao Master want with me?"
Miao Master replied, "The Emei Sect and the Millennium Great Sect cannot be destroyed by my hands. For generations, the Emei Sect has only taken in the orphans of the Daoist Sect, providing a sanctuary for the unfortunate. Now that Emei is in ruins and with so few disciples left, Yushi Luo has completely left Emei, utterly disappointed in me. Although Bai Xiaoxiang has learned the One Sword Technique alongside Yushi Luo and I have taught her the Flower Washing Sword Technique, she ultimately cannot bear such a heavy responsibility."
"Wait, wait, wait." Wudao swallowed hard and interrupted Miao Shengnan. "Miao Master, I am the sole disciple of Azure Mountain's Yin Yang View. My master has treated me with great kindness. You want me to betray my sect and join Emei as its leader? I don't have the time for that!"
Miao Shengnan said, "I’m not asking you to be the leader; just to take on the title of Emei's protector, which is equivalent to an honorary elder position."
"What do I get out of it?" Wudao asked.
Miao Shengnan replied, "You can marry Rouer openly, and everyone in Emei will congratulate you. You can choose any Cultivation Method from Emei."
Wudao chuckled lightly. "Now that's more like it. However, I still can't agree because I intend to marry Rouer, and no one can stop me. As for your Cultivation Methods, I'm not interested. And regarding the One Sword Technique, I don't like using swords; it's likely that I'll never learn it in this lifetime."
Wudao turned to leave confidently, but Miao Shengnan called after him, "The backgrounds of Emei disciples are never revealed. Rouer was personally brought back from Western Shu by me and my senior sister years ago. No one forgets their hometown; Rouer is no exception."
Wudao paused and said, "You say that all Emei disciples are orphans; what good does it do to tell her where her hometown is? It only adds to her sorrow."
Miao Shengnan responded, "Rouer’s parents did not die back then. Eighteen years ago, her parents sold her to a human trafficker. I killed the trafficker but spared her parents' lives."
Wudao replied, "Fine. If what you say is true, I will agree to your terms."
With a serious expression, Wudao left.
From a distance, Rouer saw Wudao approaching and said, "Look at you; what did Sect Master Uncle say to make you so upset?"
"Nothing," Wudao replied. "Rouer, if you want, we can leave Emei at any time."
Rouer shook her head and said, "Emei is my home after all. Sect Master Uncle and my senior and junior sisters have all treated me very well. I don't want to leave them."
"What if your biological parents and siblings were here?" Wu asked.
Rouer was taken aback, shaking her head with a sad tone, "The disciples of Emei are all orphans. If I had parents or siblings, why would I be raised by the Grand Elder in Emei?"
Just as she spoke, everyone looked up at the sky and saw a lotus flower floating in the clouds. Wu frowned and said, "Miao Guanyin?"
Miao Guanyin was walking in the air and seemed to sense that someone below was looking at her, perhaps even a powerful figure. She descended along with Zhou Manman.
As the lotus flower disappeared, Miao Shengnan stepped forward and bowed, saying, "Greetings, Senior Miao Guanyin."

Miao Shengnan nodded and said, "Emei was severely injured after being attacked by the Serpent Cult and has been living in Jiangnan City. However, due to the destruction of the Sword Pavilion Divine Weapon, we can only temporarily move to Desolate Village."
Miao Guanyin sighed, "I remember when Sword Saint Elder was alive, no one dared to act recklessly. I never expected it would come to this. Miao Shengnan shook her head and replied, "At the beginning of our sect's founding, we captured an Abyssal Gold-eyed Beast. For a thousand years, whenever Emei faced disaster, it would come forth. However, after the Dark Turmoil, the Abyssal Gold-eyed Beast has not appeared again. It must be over a thousand years old; although it is a spirit beast, it is not immortal."
A human lives for about a hundred years; trees can live for a thousand years. The lifespan of ordinary beings ranges from several years to several decades. Only those who cultivate into demons or ancient extraordinary beasts can live for a thousand years, but they are not truly immortal. The Abyssal Gold-eyed Beast was captured by Arched Eyebrows' first ancestor and had been hiding in the lotus pond beneath Emei Golden Summit for millennia.
