The Yang Family's formation barrier could connect to the void, specifically designed to deal with powerful beings possessing spatial jumping abilities. Ordinary formations were utterly ineffective against the beast. Yang Xuanzong must have tailored a formation specifically targeting the beast to capture it.
The beast dodged several times, but the black long nails relentlessly pursued it. These nails resembled Soul Fixation Nails but were clearly of a much higher grade. When I was imprisoned in the Yang Family's dungeon, the beast had sustained serious injuries while fighting Li Chang'an to rescue me. Although it had grown significantly since then, it was now trapped in the formation and unable to unleash its full potential. The space around it continued to shrink, and the black long nails had already drawn blood several times.
The beast retreated to the edge of the formation barrier and expelled a colorful bubble. The bubble pierced through the formation and flew towards Leiyin Temple; it was the beast calling for my help. Yang Xuanzong snorted, and a black long nail shot out, instantly popping the bubble.
The beast let out an enraged roar as the formation continued to constrict. One long nail pierced into its shoulder, causing its eyes to turn red as an invisible force suddenly surged from its body, sending the other incoming black nails flying away.
With control lost over the long nails, they penetrated the barrier and shot towards Yang Xuanzong, who easily dodged them, looking at the beast within the formation with confusion.
The beast's eyes glowed red with fury as its claws suddenly lashed out. The long nail embedded in its shoulder shattered, and its body swelled up, becoming as large as a calf. Its eyes reflected cosmic stars and galaxies, creating a terrifying sight.
Yang Xuanzong stepped back in shock at this unexpected transformation. The beast glared at him, a regal symbol faintly visible above its head exuding immense authority that sent shivers down one's spine. With a swipe of its paw, it tore through the formation barrier and lunged at Yang Xuanzong.
Yang Xuanzong swiftly dodged, gathering wind and sand into his massive hand that swept towards the beast. The beast ignored it entirely and swiped at Yang Xuanzong with a claw. Yang Xuanzong soared into the air, channeling void energy to strike down at the beast. The beast looked up at him as he descended; its long fur billowed like clouds, and its eyes gathered light from galaxies, shooting forth beams that instantly pierced through Yang Xuanzong's abdomen, lifting him high into the air.
Yang Xuanzong was horrified and fled on a cloud, quickly landing on a distant dune. The beast's eyes glinted with murderous intent as it leaped lightly into the air, pursuing Yang Xuanzong.
Yunxi, Douding, and I rode on Qiongqi in pursuit of the beast's direction. An hour later, we reached the border of Dunhuang. I jumped off Qiongqi as it came to a halt. Yunxi asked, "We are already at Dunhuang's border; beyond this is a continuous mountain range. Can't you connect with Bubble?"
I shook my head. "I haven't signed a contract with Bubble, but there's his aura here; Yang Xuanzong's presence has abruptly ceased."
Yunxi and Douding also dismounted from Qiongqi. We searched around but found no trace of the beast.
I said, "Yang Xuanzong must have been cornered and used a Thousand Li Talisman to escape. I hope Bubble didn't follow him into the void; otherwise, it would be troublesome."
Qiongqi let out a low growl and ran towards the mountains ahead. We followed closely behind until we reached a waterfall at the foot of a forest where the now-shrunken beast sat on a rock by the riverbank, continuously washing itself.
"Bubble?" I called out its name.
The beast turned to look at me, crying loudly as it flew into my arms. I held the damp creature and asked, "Why didn't you go back to Leiyin Temple and instead chased after me here?"
The beast whimpered in grievance, gesturing with its hands. One arm moved cautiously, then it pointed to the fur on its body, which was stained red with blood.
I glanced at the river, and a handful of clear spring water flew through the air, enveloping the beast and washing its body and wounds.
"You can control objects without Dao Qi now?" Yunxi asked, looking at me with slight surprise.
I nodded. Once the Way of Power is cultivated to a certain level, one can manipulate things at will. "Controlling objects with a thought" is merely the initial stage; according to ancient texts, if one achieves the highest realm, they can attain Creation.
Yunxi took the beast and used the essence of Water Linglong to heal it, clearing away the toxic gas from the black long nails.
I said, "This time Yang Xuanzong found Dragon Fruit to lure out Bubble. It seems the Yang Family is already planning to take action against me. The identity of the Bubble Demon King has been exposed, and I fear we can no longer hide the matters concerning the Holy Herb Garden. With Old Scholar's Divination Technique, many things cannot escape his notice."
Douding said, "Brother Yang Hao, should we go to Yin Mountain to settle this?"
I shook my head. "Yang Xuanzong has been injured by Bubble's Divine Ability and will take time to recover. However, Old Scholar is not someone to be trifled with. The reason you were able to scare him off before was due to your awakened power being too immense, causing you to go berserk. In a real fight, you would still be no match for him. During this time, I will teach you some Cultivation Methods from Buddhism and Taoism and help you forge your Holy Body and Soul; otherwise, Zen Bodhisattva might retaliate against you."
Douding nodded. He looked at Tai Xu Ling hanging from his body and said, "By the way, Sister Yunxi, I don't know why Tai Xu Ling flew over here; I'll return it to you."
Yunxi shook her head. "Tai Xu Ling hasn't recognized a master yet; since it came looking for you, it belongs to you now."
"No," Douding said firmly. He held Tai Xu Ling and declared, "You are a spiritual divine object; no matter what happens, you must protect Sister Yunxi first."
Tai Xu Ling seemed to understand Douding's words as it flew from his hand back onto Yunxi.
Yunxi chuckled softly and patted Douding's head. "You still know how to care for others."
Douding looked up earnestly. "I'm serious."
I said, "Alright, are you trying to steal my bride? We still have a long way to go, lest Uncle Yang and Aunt Jiyao worry."
Thousands of miles away at Yin Mountain, Yang Xuanzong fell from the void, his meridians in chaos, a horrifying gash bleeding from his abdomen. His face was pale.
"Someone!" Yang Xuanzong shouted, but there was no one around to respond.
"Someone!" he shouted again, frustration etched on his face, his tone filled with anger.
"Master, what happened to you?" a White-Clad Elder rushed over upon hearing the call. Seeing Yang Xuanzong gravely injured, he quickly examined his wounds.
Yang Xuanzong asked, "Where is everyone? Why is no one here?"
The White-Clad Elder replied, "Master, there are less than thirty disciples left. Some are dead and others are injured; only three remain. The connections to our worldly assets have completely severed. The Yinshan Yang Family can no longer sustain itself. The other two elders took the remaining disciples and left. I couldn't stop them."
Upon hearing the White-Clad Elder's words, Yang Xuanzong's expression turned sorrowful. "Fine, let them go; they were just a bunch of useless fools anyway. Help me to the Holy Pool."
The White-Clad Elder hesitated and said, "Master, the Holy Pool was destroyed by Yang Sanqian and his wife last time."
"What?!" Upon receiving this news, Yang Xuanzong spat out a mouthful of old blood. He cursed furiously, "Beasts! They are worse than beasts! How could my Yang Family have such unfilial descendants!"
After cursing, a hint of worry crossed Yang Xuanzong's face as he asked, "Is Ancestor Zong still in the Underground Palace?"
The White-Clad Elder replied, "Ancestor Zong went out yesterday and hasn't returned yet. I thought he went looking for you; I didn't dare to inquire further."
Yang Xuanzong nodded. "Help me to the Underground Palace; I need to heal as soon as possible."
The White-Clad Elder nodded and assisted Yang Xuanzong toward the Underground Palace. The Underground Palace had been used by the Old Scholar for years to study the Yang Family Book. Aside from the Old Scholar and Yang Xuanzong himself, no one could enter. Even Yang Xuanzong dared not venture deep inside; otherwise, it would provoke the Old Scholar's wrath.
The White-Clad Elder stopped at the entrance of the Underground Palace. Yang Xuanzong said, "You should come in with me. The Yang Family has fallen apart; you're all that's left now—there's no need to distinguish between high or low."
"Yes, Master." The White-Clad Elder replied, supporting Yang Xuanzong as they entered the Old Scholar's chamber in the Underground Palace.
Inside the Old Scholar's chamber, the air was thick with ambergris, and a circle of ancient oil lamps stood in the center.
Yang Xuanzong frowned and asked, "What is the Ancestor doing lighting the Seven Star Human Oil Lamp in this room?"
Upon hearing Yang Xuanzong's words, the White-Clad Elder's expression changed dramatically. He said, "The Seven Star Human Oil Lamp is lit with oil from seven human corpses. Taoists use it to extend life; once the lamp goes out, the person whose life is being extended will die as their lifespan is consumed."
Yang Xuanzong furrowed his brow. He had heard of the Seven Star Human Oil Lamp before; Zhuge Liang had attempted to use it to alter fate but ultimately failed. What did it mean for Old Scholar Yang Kaishan to light it here?
The White-Clad Elder glanced at Yang Xuanzong, hesitating to speak. Yang Xuanzong urged, "If you have something to say, please do."
The White-Clad Elder replied, "Master, my Yang Family Book records various divine arts passed down through generations. However, you are nearing a hundred years old and have yet to master any of these arts. Is the Ancestor perhaps being a bit shortsighted?"
Yang Xuanzong narrowed his eyes at the White-Clad Elder and then looked back at the Seven Star Human Oil Lamp. He said, "Search everywhere for any trace of the book. The Ancestor has previously brought Yang Sanqian and some disciples here. Yang Sanqian learned the Blowing Immortal Technique from that book, directly dispersing Dao Qi and extinguishing souls. My second brother's Transcendent Hand was also learned from it, yet he uses it less effectively than the Ancestor. Clearly, the Ancestor has held back some secrets."
The White-Clad Elder nodded. The people of the Yang Family were always suspicious and ruthless towards one another. With Yang Xuanzong nearing a hundred years old and having only a few years left to live, if he could not obtain the Book of Life and Death or that book, he would only be left with regret and would likely perish during the Daoist Catastrophe.
After searching for a while without any discoveries, the White-Clad Elder shook his head and asked, "Master, what should we do now?"
Yang Xuanzong's face contorted with struggle as he replied, "Even if I obtain the book, making any significant achievements during the Daoist Catastrophe will still be fraught with difficulties. Although Nangong Yun has fallen, there are still Sword Elder and that meddlesome Miao Guanyin. Without the Ancestor’s support, it would be impossible. Moreover, the Book of Life and Death was retrieved from Qilian Mountain's Underworld Entrance by the Five Great Supremes over forty years ago. Each Supreme gained an additional lifespan of a decade; logically speaking, they shouldn't need to resort to the Seven Star Human Oil Lamp so soon."
Hearing this from Yang Xuanzong, the White-Clad Elder said, "In that case, I spoke too much just now. I will remain at the door; if you need anything, just let me know."
Yang Xuanzong nodded. After the White-Clad Elder left, he glanced at the Seven Star Human Oil Lamp and began to take pills to heal himself.
Two hours later, Yang Xuanzong suddenly awoke from his meditation, coughing up blood. He had been severely injured by a beast's Divine Ability that pierced his abdomen and damaged his Qi Sea. The injury was grave, compounded by memories of being reprimanded by the Old Scholar long ago—warnings not to mess things up.
Not only had he messed up, but he had nearly been killed by that demon king as well. This left him feeling deeply frustrated.
"Yang Xuanzong said, 'Yang Zhao, come in.'
The White-Clad Elder heard Yang Xuanzong calling him and walked in from outside. Yang Xuanzong continued, 'What are you doing with these seven lamps here? Extinguish them.'
The White-Clad Elder raised his head, nodded to Yang Xuanzong, and lifted his hand to snuff out the flames of the Seven Star Human Oil Lamp.
As the lights went out, black smoke gathered and transformed into the shape of one or two elderly figures. The old man's form swayed, exuding a powerful aura. Yang Xuanzong was taken aback, jumping up and striking down on the White-Clad Elder's head with a palm, causing his skull to burst.
'You traitorous scoundrel, how dare you act recklessly in the Ancestor Sect's chamber!' Yang Xuanzong knelt on the ground and said, 'Ancestor Sect, please calm your anger. This subordinate has already been killed by me; any impact on the Ancestor Sect's Dao Body is my fault!'
Strangely enough, the shadow of Elder Na did not respond at all. After a while, Yang Xuanzong dared to raise his head and discovered that the old man before him was merely an image of the Scholar. He breathed a sigh of relief as he stood up and shattered the Old Scholar's image, causing black mist to disperse and form numerous characters floating in the air.
'Is this a book?' Yang Xuanzong exclaimed, his eyes wide as he gazed at the characters before him. For many years, he had not dared to step into the Old Scholar's chamber or even glance at it. At that moment, he finally understood why—books could not be carried on one's person!"
