A faint voice of Douding echoed in the void, filled with resentment.
"I'll go ahead; you all wait here," I said.
Yang Sanqian and Jiyao did not stop me again, and Guo Daozhen had nothing to say either. I took Yunxi's hand and activated Time Walk, covering a thousand miles in a single step as we rushed toward Dunhuang.
At that moment, above the Dunhuang Dune, dark clouds loomed ominously, shrouding the desert. A massive serpent lay coiled in the raging sands, ready to devour everyone at any moment.
Everyone was pinned in place by the eerie demonic power of the White Snake, their movements sluggish and paralyzed. Not far away, however, a tremendous force began to awaken, like a spark igniting.
"The bald donkeys of the Buddhist Sect truly disgust me," Lady White Snake said irritably.
With a sweeping motion of her giant tail, everyone struggled to break free from the binding demonic power and evade the colossal force of the serpent's tail. The sandstorm raged violently, sweeping over them as the tail swung toward Douding's location, aiming to crush him into a pulp.
The Three Great Monks' eyes widened in horror; they wanted to help but were powerless. The Relic had been destroyed, the Seven-Colored Relic was in the Old Scholar's hands, and Zen Bodhisattva had yet to return to Douding's body. Douding simply could not contend with such immense power from the Great Demon.
Boom!
The yellow sand erupted, and the ground cracked. Some people were instantly crushed by flying debris. What terrified everyone was that the child remained seated like a Buddha, completely unmoving, while White Snake's tail was halted beside him.
The Snake Goddess was taken aback; her strike was formidable enough that even a Supreme Daoist would barely withstand it. How could this child block it?
Douding appeared serene, chanting a Sutra. Fear gripped everyone's hearts as if they had suddenly entered a space filled with Deities, hearing the chants of various Buddhas. Their minds fell into an uncertain and bewildering state.
Dust surrounding Douding was illuminated and dispersed into the air. The surrounding yellow sand quickly calmed down. His skin cracked like that of a stone statue, peeling away in ancient dust as dazzling golden light shot forth.
"Stop Zen Bodhisattva!" The Old Scholar sensed something amiss and suddenly broke free from the binding demonic power, reaching for Zen Bodhisattva. Nangong Yun also reversed his Dao Qi to escape the demonic restraints. However, before they could get close to Zen Bodhisattva, his Golden Body dissipated, leaving them grasping at nothing.
"What on earth is happening?" Haideng asked Haikong.
Sky Master shook his head; as a decision-maker of the Buddhist Sect, he too was unaware of what was currently unfolding.
Zen Bodhisattva was always unfeeling and unknowing; no one could control him. Those who obtained him could be protected physically and possess supreme Buddhist teachings, but controlling Zen Bodhisattva was impossible.
Suddenly, a beam of light pierced through the rolling dark clouds above, enveloping Douding. As Douding opened his eyes, the clouds parted, revealing a golden Buddha figure seated above everyone.
The Buddha figure towered high, reaching tens of thousands of feet. It suddenly opened its eyes and struck down with a palm. The air parted, and before the massive hand could touch the ground, everyone felt a gust of wind rushing down from above. They looked up, their cheeks trembling in the strong wind as their feet sank into the yellow sand.
White Snake turned to flee but found the giant palm descending upon her.
Boom!
The ground of Dunhuang trembled, sending shockwaves across the land. White Snake screamed as she was struck in the abdomen by the palm, her hundred-meter tall body crashing into the cracked ground. She struggled to escape, letting out a shrill cry as her demonic power surged.
The crack in the ground closed around her, but she managed to break free; however, her tail was caught. The Buddha's massive hand reached into the sky, grasping a bolt of lightning that radiated destructive power. The Nine Divine Thunder was feared most by Great Demons and those from the Tribulation Realm; being struck could lead to utter annihilation. White Snake's white fur stood on end as her eyes glowed with an eerie black light. The spirit of the Snake Goddess returned to her body as she let out a long wail.
The desert shook as countless enormous White Snakes surged from all directions, charging at Douding, who was seated on the ground. Douding rose, and the void split open as Tai Xu Ling descended upon him.
Tai Xu Ling extended for miles and instantly transformed into thousands of Crimson Silks that enveloped everything, slicing all incoming White Snakes into pieces.
The lightning transformed into razor-sharp blades that severed White Snake's tail. She screamed in agony as her massive tail thrashed wildly, blood spraying through the air. Some disciples were caught off guard and splattered with snake blood, which immediately burned their skin, leaving them either dead or severely injured.
White Snake whipped up a massive wave and seized the chance to escape, leaving a trail of blood that stained the yellow sand red. She dared not look back at the Wrathful Buddha hovering above.
The golden Buddha figure gradually faded away, returning to Douding's body. He glared fiercely at everyone present.
"Heh heh, you actually awakened the power of Zen Buddhism's Buddha energy. But you are still just a wet-behind-the-ears brat; Old Man will take you away for some research!" Nangong Yun said fearlessly as he flew toward Douding. As a Supreme being with near-immortal power, he had seen many earth-shattering techniques before. No one could unleash such immense power twice in succession; it was likely just a fleeting moment when the Living Buddha awakened—nothing to worry about. Just like Zhang Xing using the Seven Star Sword Technique to shake mountains and rivers and slay thousands; once that momentum passed, he could handle it with just a finger!
Tai Xu Ling danced around Douding as he suddenly soared into the air. His eyes turned crimson as he reached out toward Nangong Yun, who felt a mysterious force immobilizing him.
Boom!
To everyone's shock, Nangong Yun suddenly exploded, blood gushing from his seven orifices. He was terrified beyond belief. His Dao Body struggled to break free from his shattered flesh; even his Dao Body bore cracks. The Supreme's Qi Sea was nearly limitless; if a Supreme fell and unleashed their Qi Sea, it could annihilate all nearby beings and return Spirit Energy to nature.
Nangong Yun screamed in horror as he descended with his Shuttle aimed at Douding. Douding looked up at the approaching Shuttle and swung Tai Xu Ling to knock it away.
Nangong Yun ignited his True Fire of Taiyi to burn his body and forced Douding back, having no choice but to release him. Nangong Yun fell to the ground while his Shuttle flew beside him. He grabbed Nangong Lin and boarded the Shuttle to ascend into the sky, fleeing into the distance.
Old Scholar dared not linger in battle any longer. As he saw a Tai Xu Ling slicing toward him, his figure suddenly vanished, fleeing into the distance.
Douding reached out into the void, and far away, he saw Old Scholar's form being pulled back.
"Transcendent Hand?" Old Scholar's face turned pale. "No, it's the Buddhist Sect's Divine Ability, World in the Palm!"
Three Thousand Paths, a grain of sand holds a world; the Buddhist Sect's World in the Palm can imprison the Supreme. This divine technique was once used during the ancient conflict between the Buddhist Sect's Zen Buddhism and the Daoist Sect's Dao Sovereign!
Old Scholar flung the Seven-Colored Relic from his hand. The relic returned to Douding, causing the Divine Ability of World in the Palm to dissipate, allowing Old Scholar to escape.
The Seven-Colored Relic exploded with a bang. Divine power enveloped Douding, infusing him with energy that made him appear as if a seven-colored Deity had descended.
Douding stood in mid-air, looking down at the crowd below. Thousands of Tai Xu Ling descended, instantly slaughtering hundreds. To everyone's horror, those killed were not only members of the Serpent Cult but also disciples of Leiyin Temple!
An Elder of the Divine Serpent Sect, at the late stage of Nascent Soul Realm, slashed at Douding with his sword. Douding reached for the Elder; his physical body shattered as his Nascent Soul escaped, only to be cleaved by Tai Xu Ling. The Golden Nascent Soul exploded, sending shockwaves through the air.
A monk from Leiyin Temple stood right beneath Douding. As Douding descended, he stepped on the monk's head, instantly crushing it into a pulp.
Countless people fled in terror, unwilling to confront Douding.
"Kind Heart, stop!" Haikong shouted, trying to halt Douding's slaughter.
Douding turned to Haikong and suddenly lunged at him. Seeing this, Haideng quickly enveloped Haikong with the Light Shadow of the Eternal Lamp. With a thunderous sound, the void collapsed; shadows flickered. Without the protection of the Eternal Lamp, Haikong would have undoubtedly perished!
"Kind Heart, what has happened to you?" Master Hai Deng questioned, bewildered by Douding's sudden bloodthirstiness.
Douding frowned at Haikong while Tai Xu Ling swept toward Haideng. Haideng spun away just in time to avoid being nearly slain by an overwhelming force from the void.
"Kind Heart, still not stopping?" The Three Great Monks gathered around, radiating Buddhist light as they chanted Sutras.
The members of Leiyin Temple also recited the Calm Heart Mantra in an attempt to pull Douding back from his frenzied state. Upon hearing their Buddhist Chant, Douding's expression hardened; Tai Xu Ling went berserk, slashing violently in all directions. Countless people were reduced to mere flesh and limbs. No one could believe that Kind Heart, who had always been mischievous and kind-hearted, could suddenly transform into such a terrifying demon.
The Three Divine Monks appeared around Douding. They pointed at his vital points; Douding grunted as he clenched his fists tightly. An immense surge of Buddhist power erupted from within him, sending the three Holy Monks flying. He then rode Tai Xu Ling and swiftly appeared beside Withered Leaf Master, delivering a powerful punch to his chest.
Withered Leaf spat blood, falling to the ground, sinking half a foot deep. He spun around, and Douding reappeared beside Master Drywood. Master Drywood's eyes widened as a layer of secret power enveloped him, making his body incredibly hard. With a loud explosion, cracks appeared on Dead Tree's body, and he collapsed to the ground.
Withered Heart was about to unleash his Buddhist powers when a Crimson Silk pierced through his body from behind, scattering his Buddhist energy and severely injuring him.
Douding swept through everything, intent on annihilating all. His hatred for the Serpent Cult ran deep, and he executed every member of the Serpent Cult without mercy. Whether they were disciples or elders, they fell before Douding like ants, utterly defenseless.
"Amitabha," Haikong chanted softly, sitting on the ground with his hands clasped together. "Buddha and demon are one; Zen Buddhism has fallen. My Buddhist Sect will no longer exist from this moment on."
The faces of all Leiyin Temple disciples showed sorrow as they sat down, reciting Buddhist chants.
In no time at all, Douding had slain every member of the Serpent Cult.
In the distance, Nangong and Yu Youya were horrified as they fled away.
Yu Youya said, "It's a good thing we left early; otherwise, we would have lost our lives."
Nangong clenched his fists, his expression fierce. He gritted his teeth and said, "Why did it come to this?"
Yu Youya replied, "Calm down, Leader. We should avoid confrontation for now; as long as we have the green mountains, we need not worry about firewood. Zen Buddhism hasn't appeared in the world for three hundred years; surely its accumulated power is too great for that child to bear at once."
Nangong Dao said, "I'm already in my nineties; how can I continue to waste time with them? That old Immortal's Dao Body will shatter soon enough, and yet he took the Child away."
Yu Youya added, "Nangong Lin is the Leader's only son. If Old Master passes on the Shuttle and Sun Refining Cauldron to him, with his filial piety, he will surely present them to you. For now, let's return to the main hall."
As soon as Yu Youya finished speaking, a roar from Qiongqi echoed nearby as it rushed past them at an astonishing speed.
In the battlefield not far away, a frenzied Douding swept through all enemies with Tai Xu Ling; not a single member of the Serpent Cult survived.
Douding landed on the ground and approached Sky Master. Haideng blocked Haikong's path and said, "Douding, don't be impulsive. Did Chang Liulang say something to you? Listen to Master explain."
Douding struck out with a palm, sending Haideng flying with a golden Buddhist shadow. At that moment, Qiongqi came rushing from afar. It looked at the corpses strewn across the ground and then at Douding's current state. The ferocity in its eyes faded as it stepped in front of Douding, rubbing its head against him in an attempt to awaken his consciousness.
Douding swatted Qiongqi away with a slap. Qiongqi struggled on the ground and roared in frustration; it realized it could not communicate with Douding at all—like a severed connection.
Haideng struggled to stand up, extinguishing the everlasting lamp and said, "If I don't enter hell, who will? If you want to kill, then kill me first."
Douding's face was filled with anger, and Haideng moved with a speed that was terrifying.
At that moment, the void shifted, and I suddenly appeared in front of Master Hai Deng, looking at Douding. I extended my palm, and the Rift Path suddenly reached out towards Douding. The Buddhist shadows around Douding shrank suddenly, and Tai Xu Ling tightened. Douding looked at me with a puzzled expression.
Yunxi also landed beside me and shouted, "Douding, it's me, Sister Yunxi."
Douding struggled, his eyes flickering between light and darkness, his expression filled with pain. He clutched his head as countless images flashed through his mind—blurred memories from nearly two hundred years surged back. He knelt on the ground, crying out, "Sister Yunxi, my head hurts so much."
Yunxi rushed over and held Douding in her arms, saying, "It's okay now, it's okay."
Douding lifted his head to look at me and said, "Brother Yang Hao, the master has died."
Seeing that Douding was alright amidst the chaos of bodies strewn everywhere and the Three Great Monks severely injured, I turned to Master Hai Deng and asked, "What happened? How did Douding end up like this?"
